Giving away $650 with every phone makes the s10 appear to be a loss leader in exchange for market share.

Verizon also has buy one get one free onto of the deal I got.

I paid 850 for my gs9 so 550 trade in is a no brainer for me. Total out of pocket to get into an s10 is 371 with tax.

It’s a great deal. An iPhone at that price would be a no-brained. Apple would never do that kind of kind of deal.

You need to jump on this deal! You know you have an old iphone sitting around you can trade in

Good to know, thanks!

With improvements like this from Samsung I wonder if they think they can get away with the same panel again.

I read somewhere a while ago that samsung said only its flagships will get there latest screens to keep competing phones from beating there phones.

That is most likely the reason apple did not get a new screen. The next iphone will probably get the galaxy note 9 screen. Apple will do its thing to calibrate it as best as they can but I doubt samsung will sell them the gs10 screens

Apple is dumping money into screen tech. At some point Samsung displays won’t matter to the landscape of phones.

They beat apple to the punch here. No ugly notch and touch id behind the screen. This is the sort of thing you’d expect from apple years ago but they haven’t inovated in years but just release good but boring upgrades.

I wouldn’t discount that Samsung have put a few unique features in here. Which is great. It seems like you’re drinking the Android Kool Aid by putting down everything Apple has brought to the table as a gimmick.. Samsung wouldn’t be what it is now without Apple.

Ram makes a difference - sure. But so does the operating system being used. An extreme example to highlight a point - Windows 98 uses less RAM than Windows 10. Android and iOS have different RAM requirements and that’s why real world performance videos on YouTube often come out with very close results.

Your prediction isn’t something I can discredit because we’ll have to wait and see.. However every year people talk about how amazing the latest Samsung phones are - especially on MacRumors. And then when they miss their targets it gets glossed over (unlike the Apple is doomed narrative that pops up every 5 minutes). Samsung warned their investors in January that they’ll be down almost 30% on last years operating profits. Let’s see what the next year brings..

Folding phone aside, Samsung phones are actually focusing on real world specs for improvement. rather than silly gimmicks only a handful of people actually use. But I'm sure the kool-aid drinkers will chime in shortly about the "user experience"...

It's almost like Apples failure to innovate in the software realm is now showing in the hardware realm too. Even the lowest tier model has double the RAM as the XS. And yes, it DOES make a difference in usability.

The entire history of computing has illustrated a constant, increasing need for more processing memory. You don't even have to look too far back in Apples own product line to see a graveyard of good tech left behind by their decision to kneecap their hardware to drive future sales.

I'm going to make a not-too-bold prediction: you're not gonna hear about missed sales targets of this line of Galaxy phones.

No iMessage.
I hear you! That was by far the most difficult thing to "leave" behind when I started using Pixel phones and the one thing that kept me going back to iPhones in the first year of the Pixel line.

To be honest though once you start using Whatsapp you realise that it works just as well and is also cross platform so you get "free" messages with everyone not just your iOS mates.

The rest of the OS in my opinion is so much better that it easily makes up for the loss of iMessages. Buttery smooth operation, brilliant Google assistant, monthly security updates and more user options to personalise the app home screens etc.

The fact that the hardware is great too is just a bonus, class leading camera and brilliant wireless charger, all day battery life and a phone that is a joy to use for hundreds of dollars less. It's an absolute win win. I'm saying this and I've had every iPhone from the first one. Face ID was the first nail in the coffin for me as it is a real pain in my experience, the horribly buggy OS and being overtaken in terms of hardware innovation while hiking the price up was the final one...

I don’t use iMessage at all

Only WhatsApp.

Think it’s a US thing that’s obsessed by it.

I agree and Apple loves to throw one big number...the price. Then the Apple nerds gloat about how much iPhones Apple sell. It's a weird complex for sure.
No, Samsung like to push the envelope, they actually innovate, something Apple used to do years ago. If you want to talk about weird complexes let's discuss how Apple fans brag about the amount of profit Apple makes, now that is weird.

I don’t consider higher specs pushing the envelope, but to each their own. The kids do love it. I’d agree with your last point though, I personally don’t care how much money Apple makes, just as long as they continue to hit on the aspects that bring me personal value. I’m still not sure that’s weirder than the amount of Samsung fans that live on this site though.

Another Samsung bloatware special. Now packing extra bloat. The fork is strong with this one.

You might be right, it's pretty popular in the UK too though, at least in my friendship group.

Really? Thought generally we in UK use WhatsApp more. Even people I’m friends with have iPhones still message with WhatsApp. Maybe as people can see when you read messages lol

Loads of useless preinstalled apps like Stocks, Tips, Watch app, Home, News, Reminders, Maps, Voice Memos... oh, wait
Huh, useless to you. Just delete them. Bloat was always as money grabbing apps, and has morphed into any app one doesn’t want. Go figure.

What freaks you out about it? I'm not sure it's good to be transmitting through humans...
all the negative health stuff ive been reading on it. Not sure what to think about it but I dont want it or any towers near me from what I've seen.

I agree with you full
It’s good that it works for you, in your opinion.

Samsung’s implementation of under glass Touch ID is the future. I have no intention of having my eyes bombarded with IR from the Flood Illuminater every time I look at a device. Samsung’s implementation avoids the PITA of having to swipe up after unlock with Face ID.

If Android was not such crapware I’d be on the 10E in a heartbeat. Hardware used to have equal value with software from Apple with me. Tim has turned Apple Hardware into half baked, poorly implemented, poorly designed low quality high priced toys for teenagers and Anamojis. I look forward to his replacement in 2020.
I agree with you fully, Faceid is rubbish and fingerprint scanners either on the back or under the front glass is the future.

However I totally disagree when it comes to Android, being crapware. Sure Samsung adds their own skin which in my opinion makes it worse. But pure Android as seen on the Google Pixel runs circles around iOS especially when it comes to a lack of bugs and and OS smarts. Sadly it's simply not true anymore that iOS is leading the way. I would say it's been at least two years since Android overtook iOS. You should give it a go and you might be very surprised.

That's interesting, that not what I find in my group of friends. For starters all but one person uses iPhones and they were all very reluctant to use WhatsApp when I started using it. They are slowly coming onboard now but it's taken about two years.

I do find though that in a work environment it's mostly WhatsApp at play.

All that effort for a screen thats only <1" than their 6.4" Galaxy+. Its such a incremental increase and the notch on it is huge.

They need to flatten it some more and make it a bigger than 4.6" front and over 8" inside.
