My conjecture is the phone is not going to be much of a game changer and Apple is not going to lose their market share. Conjectures are fun.
I'm not sure you're the target consumer for either handset maker. You prefer user-replaceable batteries.

Very nice hardware... I really wish Android wasn't such a crappy mess.
When was the last time you used an Android phone? It’s not been a crappy mess for quite a while now
[doublepost=1550725984][/doublepost]
Android is superior to iOS, far from crappy.
The apps are not that well crafted
Most apps are exactly the same as on iOS.

Folding phone aside, Samsung phones are actually focusing on real world specs for improvement. rather than silly gimmicks only a handful of people actually use. But I'm sure the kool-aid drinkers will chime in shortly about the "user experience"...

It's almost like Apples failure to innovate in the software realm is now showing in the hardware realm too. Even the lowest tier model has double the RAM as the XS. And yes, it DOES make a difference in usability.

The entire history of computing has illustrated a constant, increasing need for more processing memory. You don't even have to look too far back in Apples own product line to see a graveyard of good tech left behind by their decision to kneecap their hardware to drive future sales.

I'm going to make a not-too-bold prediction: you're not gonna hear about missed sales targets of this line of Galaxy phones.

Of course you will hear that. They have to give away a lot of freebee’s, it starts of with including wireless earbudds to start up the Sales. And it will end the same as with any other model they make: too expensive for the user-experience you get (if there are no hardware issues). Patience is my advise here for what it is worth, when you have to fight for a position based on hardware specs you already lost the battle before it even started.

It’s actually ridiculous how much hate for Apple is on this forum.

It’s just like PC hardware in reality, a true Apple fan won’t be phased because regardless of decent hardware it can’t run iOS or macOS...

If you think it’s that great, buy one. Get the chip on your shoulder about the iPhone resolved. Join another forum.

Ear buds are time limited and if you buy straight from Samsung. Most people buy phones through their carrier. They will not get these earbuds.

Well done Samsung! In-display finger print sensor, notchless, and plenty of other innovative features.
Apple better make the next iPhone notchless and show some real innovation.

Not happening!
Apple is now counting on ecosystem experience - they have already given up on radical iphone innovation

I wouldn't call it hate.
Frustration perhaps that Apple has the means to innovate at a faster pace but chooses not to...

I'm optimistic in that Apple will innovate this year, but who knows. I think deep down, Apple has always known that Samsung is doing a great job, and has been taken aback by Samsung's innovation. The iPhone X was representative of a sliver of that innovation. Unfortunately, they thought the minor XS and XR would be enough to appease the masses instead of taking the lead on being the first with in-display fingerprint sensor and foldable displays.

Hope this changes Apple's mentality (assuming reviews are positive about how Samsung implemented these features) and Apple actually doesn't hold back this year. Though I am convinced that if they 'hold back innovation' with this year's release and next year... then Apple probably doesn't have the capacity.

If there was any company that should be able to respond to what Samsung just showed off, it would be Apple, which in either case.. is a total win for us consumers. Without this kind of pressure Samsung is putting on Apple, we (Apple consumers) would probably never know what true innovation is like and take our small upgrades year to year with maybe just a single new feature year to year.

Oh come on. The complaining of the notch feels more like peer pressure than anything realistic. I've got the XR and the notch is completely unnoticeable in daily use. It really is not a problem like many make it out to be.
True, it was only until i owned a notch phone that i disliked it, it really is hard to notice. Probably same with hole punch

Apple need to stop dicking around and provide a product worth paying $1,000 for. Enough with the animojis. No one over the age of 13 gives a rat's behind about them. iPhone owners need more power, more basics, more use of iOS than what's currently offered. I expect the next iPhone to come with a minimum of 128 GB of storage at today's 64 GB of space. If Apple want to move more units and not lower prices, they need to get on board with offering more. As time passes by, storage and everything else will keep going up due to newer tech needed that kind of space.

Hell, if Apple offer hardware level HEVC decoding, that would be amazing. Especially if you could somehow bounce that video to your 4K+ TV through ATV or on its own since most SmartTVs can use peer wifi now.

Hardware HEVC on an iPhone would be amazing. I don't believe any other company can do that now. I'm sure Apple can.

The screen looks nice in ads, but it still has a bit of a chin and a navigation bar at the bottom that’s always there.

By default they have the navigation bar, but option to turn on the new gestures, which means you can completely hide the bar (and not require to swipe up to see the bar).

Done it on my Note 8, and now the entire screen is my content bar the status bar up top. It's great.

hmmm...
If the last 3 years are anything to go by, there isn't a lot of hope in terms of iphone innovation . They have fallen behind on call quality, camera, voice assistant...
OTOH iOS reigns and the overall security of ecosystem (recent facetime scare notwithstanding) is solid.
Apple is counting on 'retaining' the user base given the perceived hassle of moving across to Android.
I think they will concentrate on added services and accessories rather than improve iphone dramatically

Think the first company that invent a through the display front facing camera will win.

Just ordered the s10 on samsung.com and got free samsung buds (99 value) and 550 credit for trading in my old phone.

Many interesting things about people's comments.
1) If there is so much love for Samsung and so much utter disgust at Apple, why post it here on an Apple forum? It feels like a desperate attempt at validation; "hey maybe I can be cool like Steve Balmer dissing the first iPhone". Really? Maybe go to 4Chan or Reddit instead...
2) "But Android is better!". I'll admit Apple is my other religion. Crucify me. I love them. They frustrate me. Big deal. Two choices: I get over it or I leave them behind.
3) A folding tablet for effectively $2800 in Australian Dollars. Yikes! Suddenly an iPad Pro looks affordable!
4) After dabbling in Android I will never operate my primary devices on an OS that is operated by an advertising firm who makes money off trading my data/analytics no matter how glossy they are. I trust Apple with my data and security. I've had so many mates on Android that have been hacked/cracked/bricked. I'd trade security and keeping my data private for a less capable phone any day of the week.
5) I'll be interested to see how Apple responds with this year's releases.

You know, I also liked to see the Samsung CEO and division heads excited about their device. Note I said device, not product like the number cruncher Tim does

What do I do with my max?

I have to agree I do not see Samsung outselling the iPhone. Apple sell way to many phones to everyday people that don't know tech and just go for the iPhone as it's popular.
Yes. To these people iPhone may be the best phone out there.(changing from popular to subjective best, because objectively there is no best)

So Samsung gives away $650 in credit while cheap Apple gives away a few hundred for an old phone? Wow.

Animoji’s scratch the surface of what’s under the skin. Using my max (over $1000) I have fun with my kids (and grand kids). It seems a common misconception that Apple can do only one thing at a time (emojis or bug fixes for example). I assure you this is not the case.

Every year Samsung comes out with their phone there’s a lot of love for Samsung and then a few months later apple comes out with their phone that pretty much is a hit. Rinse and repeat.

Really impressive line up, the displays in particular look gorgeous.

I wonder if Apple is going to roll out the same OLED panel again this year with the 2019 iPhone, this will be the third year with the same panel if they do.

You could say the same about Apple?
It can't use anything else than apple music on the homepod? I cant get past the initial setup with spotify...
Apple's policies on user data are much better IMO than Google's. Also much data stays on the phone rather than being sent to Apple. Google's business model is to monetise user data. Google hardware and services exist merely to further that aim.
