Samsung isn't cheapening out like Apple. Looks like they're including a 25W wired charger plus every S10 model has 4.5W wireless charging while Apple only includes 5W wired charging.

Now we know why Apple makes 84% Of the profits in the mobile sector.

For the love of God, I can't figure out why these companies can't get rid of the chin. The iPhone is still the "only" phone I've seen with symmetrical bezels. I don't think these manufactures realize how much of a disservice they're doing their own device.
The S10 chin is same size as the XS...And it has way smaller side bezels!! Makes the XS look very dated indeed.

How is that a good thing for the consumer?

It is not the same size, and the asymmetry with the top in landscape is cringy.
Its within 1/10 of a mm. Don't be so upset that your XS looks completely outdated. Do you really think that massive notch on the XS creates symmetry with the bottom bezel? It looks hideous!!

you really are going to defer to that argument?

Apple makes such large profits by reducing costs and having high margins. That very point reinforced the person you are responding to and weakens your argument.

Apple makes such large profits as a corporation because they often provide to the end user lower tier items to save themselves costs.

there's literally no excuse, except maybe $1 in material costs difference for Apple to provide a high wattage charger with the phone. This is one of those cases where someone like samsung is willing to take slightly less profits and margins in return for a greater user experience.

dragging the profit discussion into this is just laughably weak.

The chin helps with holding and gestures swiping up. What's cringy is the digital chin Apple adds to every screen you can swipe up and the blank space below keyboards.

Because not everyone wants to trade a phone in. Some people keep their old phone as a backup. My point is that $550 trade in is probably too good to be true. They will get your old phone, evaluate it, and then come back with a much lower offer.
I believe you have a deadline to send it in not having to send it til your new phone arrives..

Absolutely.

It’s my conjecture that by subsidizing the phone to the tune of $550 Ali gnwith free earbuds samsung is giving it away.

Their consumers seem not to care based on past quarters revenue.

You dont know what the costs of these chargers except to do the same math of 35%. It’s oribably not a buck though.

Apple has a margin rate of about 35% consistently year over year. Other businesses have different margins. One laughable weak argument is another’s made the point.

Has anyone actually used Android lately, or the new Samsung UI skin on the s9/+?

Android is gorgeous and slick. It's really become intuitive and streamlined in the last few versions, and the Samsung skin is far less obtrusive than it used to be (In fairness, the LG skin is terrible). I have owned only apple computers for more than a decade, and will wholeheartedly agree that OSX is the best operating system on the market. However I ditched the iPhone years ago because Android is a far superior platform. I briefly returned to the 6S+ for a few months when I broke my Nexus, and it was not pleasant.

iOS is clunky, and presumptive. It tries to push you into doing things the way it assumes everyone wants to do them. Having everything connected means you HAVE to use it all, and in a specific way. I don't use iCloud, or iTunes which makes my experience with iPhones infuriating because it is constantly harassing you to buy into the ecosystem. The iPhone hasn't been the best phone on the market in years. Sorry bout it.

Fingerprint reader, headphone jack, and double the storage on the low end of all iPhones. High quality camera/screen, etc. If I wanted a large phone, I would have to give pretty serious consideration to these Samsung devices compared to the iPhone X series. But I am a diehard small phone guy and I'm clinging to the iPhone SE as long as possible.

Are you serious? I think you have just proven this discussion will go nowhere and achieve nothing. You can't even admit that lower profit is better for consumers, your love for Apple has no bounds.
An Internet tactic ask a question and then feign indignation when another question is asked.

It’s an important question because it seems like Samsung is giving away the house to sell these phones in order to gain market share.

They are not giving them away in my region, they are throwing in the Galaxy Buds and the 5G upgrade for free, a great deal but far from giving it away. Samsung just offer great value for your money and that is always a good thing for us consumers.

I guess the point is you want your favorite vendor to make an profit so they can continue to offer the products you want. Taking a bath doesn’t help anyone. In this case great value for the consumer seems to mean bad value for the company, which was my point. Offering free earbuds and $550 for a trade in seems like Samsung is taking a bath.

Well unfortunately not every company can be as popular as Apple, Samsung need to try to get more of their devices out there.

By default they have the navigation bar, but option to turn on the new gestures, which means you can completely hide the bar (and not require to swipe up to see the bar).

Done it on my Note 8, and now the entire screen is my content bar the status bar up top. It's great.

Why more Samsung users don't prefers this... I have no idea. Those 3 buttons down there look so antiquated. I've seen with my friends personally that it is a mindset they can't let go of.

That be the first thing I do if I had s8 and above... DISABLE THOSE OLD FASHIONED DAMN BUTTONS ON THE BOTTOM. Looks goofy asf!!!

I disabled the Navi bar on my S9+ and love the gestures. Before that, I had to swipe up from the bottom to unhide my Navi bar, then press. Now I just swipe up where the button suppose to be. One step now.

Slow down I'm trading in a gs9+ that I paid 900 for so it's not 550 for any cheap phone.

Screen protector for the S10 comes with a hole for the fingerprint sensor.

How is this supposed to be good design again? Seems like something that would get annoying very quickly.

Looks like Apple sticking to their guns with Face ID is looking increasingly prescient by the day.
It would be an issue if i used a screen protector but i have never used one in my life. I don't even like using a case. Modern phones are to good looking to cover them up.

They are offering $550 to entice people to upgrade, so Samsung shows better sales during quarterly earnings call. It's a common practice.
