I've never owned an iPhone, but as long as Apple does what Apple does, they're gonna be just fine. iPhone 5/5s was way behind on specs compared to all the 2013 Android flagships and it performed and sold just fine. I used to hate on Apple, but I finally saw the light. They make high quality products that "work", and they often lead the market in technology that actually matters ( IPS display panels ). If anything Android is starting to fall behind, just as they were starting to pull ahead. Phone specs peaked in 2013 as far as I'm concerned, and instead of working on improving things like the camera, they're throwing 1440P into phones just to show "progress/improvement" .

Disclosure: I own an HTC One M7

Um, the new note 3 which I owned took amazing pictures, better than iphone 5s. If this is any indicator then im guessing that note 4 is even better... Also HTC one m7/m8 are great phones, but are terrible for pictures.

Unfortunately in countries like India and China you are forced to pay the full retail value of a phone
Or in most European countries where the carriers do not have the death grip on the cell phone market like they have in the US.

The last time I bought a subsidised phone that tied me to a contract with lots of limitations was in the early 2000s. I pay full price up front and choose whatever plan I prefer without being force-fed artificial restrictions or bloatware.

i usually cannot stand Samsung and their keynote was forgettable as usual but i am really digging the Note Edge and I am SO jealous of those pens ... i really wish Apple would push it for productivity purposes alone.

Pens are awesome. iPad handwriting experience is like ******** a cactus.

The 90's called...they want their stylus back.

It's not a stylus. A stylus is a dumb stick, like what people used in old mobile phones, and it's what Apple stores sell for the iPhone.

The Note uses an active Wacom pen, which is quite different and far more precise. A lot of us wish that Apple would offer something similar on at least the iPad.

All these websites show statistics of how Android phones are toppling the iphone in Sales! but they are including those junk phones in their math.

1) So many more Android phones are sold than iPhones, that it doesn't take a big percentage of them to be higher end phones, to meet Apple's sales. That's why percentages are deceiving. Use quantities instead.

2) All the statistics that show iPhone Average Selling Prices are higher than Android phones, are using the wholesale price, not what the customer actually pays upfront and therefore sees as its purchase value.

In fact, over 90% of iPhone sales are in subsidized countries where people usually pay LESS (sometimes even ZERO) for an iPhone upfront, than others pay for non-subsidized Android phones.

Does that mean only poor (or cheap!) people buy iPhones? Of course not. Likewise, Android phones are not just bought by poor people, as some claim.

Right handed: Yes and Left handed: No

In the United States due to subsidized Carrier pricing you get pick up a iPhone 5C right now for 87 cents with a 2 year contract. iPhone 5S will soon be $99 with a contract and the iphone 6 most likely $199 with a contract.

Unfortunately in countries like India and China you are forced to pay the full retail value of a phone so a $150.00 Android phone sounds much more attractive to the average consumer than a $550.00 phone.

About that iPhone 5C for 87 cents (or rather 97 cents)...

And there are, according to the latest statistics, more high-end Android phones sold than high-end iOS phones.

But they're the ones that really brought IPS displays into the consumer market. Everyone was still using 6 Bit TN panels while Apple was using IPS.

Uhh.. no they didn't. IPS panels were widely used in monitors and smartphones before it was used in iphone. And yes, MBA still uses cheap TN panels.

I'm just here amazed at their >500ppi. I hope all other flagship phones including iPhone will join the club, so that soon we will all be able use our phones under the microscope without noticing any pixels.

Apple hands down makes the best camera processing software. They're the most consistent and overall best when taking all situations into account. Note 3 is probably better in some situations and worse in others, but over all iPhone 5s gets the nod. I'll ignore the fact that Samsung has some of the best android cameras, which would mean iPhone > all other androids. I'll also ignore that iPhone panel has way better color accuracy, gamma, and grayscale than the Note3. If the 6 has Sony's 1/2.3 sensor in it, I doubt the Note 4 will touch it.

Nokia/MS cameras >>> iPhone. 'Nuff said.

Samsung really don't think any of their products through. Their board meetings must go like this:

Hey, what new and probably useless technologies can we put into a new phone?
Oh sir, there was that one with the screen on the edge of the phone.
Oh, cool, when can we have one of those made for?
I can have it designed by Sally from accounting this afternoon, if you want.
Great, we'll release it as the "next big thing" on Friday!

Don't like samsung smartphones comparing to other android brands, but i'm in love with Note Edge. Nice lateral notification interface :D

Haha. Much like your experience on prom night, others may not share the same views about the quality of products Samsung has regurgitated.
My prom night was very fun (as have been many nights since :D), and of course other people have different views. That's why we're all on a blog right now.

Samsung Details New Galaxy Note 4, Note Edge, Gear S Watch and Gear VR Headset

Is there any meaningful changes with the Note 4 compared to the Note 3? Seems like another virtually unchanged product just like the S5.

I was asking that same question, actually. The camera has changed, and the resolution bump is meaningful for VR use. Other than that, not really, I think. I'd say that the Note 3 is much better value if you don't do VR.

Edit: obviously I'm not talking about the Note Edge here. I'll reserve judgement for that until I've seen one in person.

It's not a massive upgrade by any means, but it is noticeable.

We receive a higher res. display with a significantly larger color range. 1440pvs1080p(No 1440p content for sale yet, you would have to pirate 4k movies which are in very low supply and downscale to 1440p. Most games are not optimized for 1440p, only things that would benefit are console emulators)

better camera 13mp vs. 16mp with 60% brighter photos and IOS(less blur)

slightly better overall battery life.(pretty amazing with the better display)

snapdragon 805/adreno 420 this will probably be a very slight bump in power since the note 4 has a lot more pixels to power this time around.

and other small tweaks to refine the note experience.

Are these game changing specs? No. But these are strong enough to keep the note the reigning champion of the phablet market for the near future(sorry iphone 6).

You're high if you think the Note 4 will outsell the 5.5" iPhone 6.

Why do people think they need an quad core processor in a mobile phone? There are very VERY few circumstances where it could ever take advantage of a quad core processor.

The vast overwhelming majority of apps are single threaded, meaning that they can only take advantage of a single core. The iPhone 5S SLAMS every android smartphone on the market when it comes to single core performance, meaning that well over 90% of all apps will actually run faster on the iPhone.

In fact, guess what? The iPhone 5S, which was released nearly a YEAR ago, still performs nearly 30% better on single-threaded tasks than the Snapdragon 805 in the Galaxy Note 4.

Want to know what's even funnier? Of the apps that are multithreaded, very few can actually utilize more than 2 threads, so the iPhone STILL wins even among most multithreaded apps, simply because Apple has focused on providing better single-threaded performance per core.

People hear "8 core" and because of the android marketing spec-war they have been conditioned to believe that more cores = better in all cases. But this just isn't true. For every day real-world performance, Apple's A7 chip is far superior in multiple ways.

Same could be said for 64 bit processsors
