Gold star to the first person to post a photo of a samsung galaxy user charging their phone next to one of these ads.

They were a personification of the two computers, not the users. The PC itself was the dork, not the PC user. Samsung however are basically saying "Hey iPhone fans, you're stupid because you won't use our phones".

Please, are you really that daft? It IS a clear message "If you use PC you're a fat geek".

This ad fails on a big scale for me. All I see is samsungs name and a walloutlet for charging. I see "look we at Samsung provided charging points because our phones have short battery life"

Was I meant to read the small print?

I Wouldn't because I'd be walking past with my charged up iPhone listening to music.

Haha epic fail

Im sorry but I find your comment to be more of a personal attack than the Apple's Mac vs PC campaign (even though I was a PC user when it was aired). It's such a shame that MR removed the down vote button and ignorant comments like yours go unnoticed..

The mac vs PC adds were anthropomorphising MACs and PCs instead of making fun of PC users. They turned the computers into human beings were they could expose their advantages and their disadvantages into a level similar to the one of a user BUT they never made fun of the users... You can say that it was close, BUT again they did not pass this fine line of personal attack to the users..

So, instead of talking about hypocrisy and be bitter, please open up a bit more your perception of reality...

If the ads was made the other way around, you'd be up in arms about them attacking users.

Only anthropomorphising the iPhone right?

Not clever IMHO People who plug there phones into the wall at airports are waiting for their flights anyway. The only other "place you could be" is a seat 20ft away. Battery life would have to be truly horrendous for people to switch their hardware and OS. Most people thoroughly enjoy their iPhones and iOS, the same can't be said for Samsung.

Perhaps the iPhone users need charging sooner, because they use their phones so much more, because the phones are simply better suited/equipped for their needs than Galaxy owning peers, whose phones can't/don't run the apps they need...?

The denial is in people who say we are in denial... when all impartial tests done under controlled usage patterns of the batteries only show a modest advantage at best in the latest competing phones (in previous years, the advantage was less than 30 minutes for the top phones!). Considering that those very controlled circumstances are farther away from normal circumstances for Android phones than for Iphones (Iphone has better way of controlling uncontrolled power usage over a whole day), I'd say it would probably be a wash between the Iphone and other top phones on average.

BTW, I've got a 5 year old 3GS and I'm still able to watch 4 Scrubs episode in a row on it! What drains it the most, bad WIFI and CELL reception. That's what I found drains every phone quickly (GPS is even worse, but that goes without saying). In fact any apps which needs the network if left on is a good candidate for draining the battery quick.

Desperation has set in. :D

yep. they will need all the sales and propaganda they can muster until the release day (or first day of order taking) of iPhone 6.

They know that once iP6 is release, they know that it will be THEY who will be on the defensive as the world's attention (and sales momentum) shifts to Apple.

To a degree, Samsung already on the defensive. Lower than expected performance in recent Quarterly report. Everyone reporting Samsung "squeezed" between dominant Apple at high end, and the rise of popular Chinese (Xiaomi) brand in low end. The squeeze on Samsung will be more severe once iPhone 6 sales ramp up.

Apple's 'High-End Aura' Pays Off In China As Samsung Gets Squeeze - Business Insider

Even as Apple posted strong China sales, the South Korean tech giant warned this month that quarterly earnings could drop 25 percent due to an inventory build-up of cheaper phones and weaker demand for 3G products in China.

Everyone I know with a galaxy, is always complaining about poor battery life. So I don't know what this is supposed to prove.

Supposed to prove that Samsung is disingenuous at best.

I don't understand this whole battery thing. A co-worker of mine has had the Samsung S3, 4 and now 5 and he has constantly charged all of them. 2 to three times while at work. My old iPhone 4s can usually get me through the day on one charge.

Anyway, those folks charging phones at the airport have not charged their phones for two days or more.

lol no, i unplug it before i leave for the airport and charge it again while i wait for boarding to start. every damn time

Only Samsung could take their biggest overall weakness -- power hungry huge screen phones with short battery life -- and try to make it seem like a strength. Their marketing people are bold!

Just got back from a trip and did an informal wall-hugger poll: I noticed 4 people with Samsung phones, and 0 iPhones. One Samsung user had his phone plugged into the wall, but he was happily typing away on his iPad.

Were those phones the S5? That's the whole point of this ad.

Also plenty of people use both android and iOS devices. Nothing wrong with the user that has a samsung phone and an iPad.

Yeah but you missed the point completely that the samsung s5 has a far better battery life. If you walked around playing music on your iPhone , and a samsung s5 user did the same, it would be you plugging.

They are just advertising their device has better battery life, it's a fact. Let's see what iPhone 6 brings

I thought those Mac vs. PC ads were just being smug (in a way reminding me of Southpark "Smug Alert!" S10, Ep 2).
The frustrating part about this was that those ads combined with the overall attitude of superiourity shown by some stupid fanboys made it very hard to convince people that for their specific need a mac is better suited.

Samsung however are basically saying "Hey iPhone fans, you're stupid because you won't use our phones".
I think you are mixing up the TV ads and the Airport thing...the sign at the Airports only states an advantage of using a specific samsung product....not a single word about apple...

s5 owners not allowed

i'm sure a lot of gal xy s5 owners will find themselves plugged in at these spots as well. must be an infuriating message to be greeted with.

A bit of a flaw...

Samsung seems to be really confident that their phones don't ever need to be charged. Because, if they put up nasty attack ads on all these wall chargers, and a Samsung user charges their phone there (and why wouldn't they, right before a big long flight that might not have power sockets), then Samsung's going to look pretty stupid.

Seems like a bit of a design flaw.

Really well done

These ads are genius. Samsung has really been doing a great job. They're right to hit us where it hurts... and it hurts right in the battery life.

It's a damn good advert and pretty clever, despite their batteries are nearly as bad. 2 days battery life would be lovely please apple.....

Just a shame that Samsung devices isn't half good as Apple. My daughter s tab goes random restart and in safe mode. My friend who just upgrade to a S5 is selling to get iPhone 6. I feel such pain for Samsung customers who just got their S5s and within months it becomes a secondary old phone. LOL. Y? Milking the S sheeps Samesung again. Now let's see their metal phone campaign. :D

I really don't get this, Samsung really need to look in the mirror. My iPhone 5 is my first iPhone, my previous phone was a Samsung galaxy S2, and I paid money to end my contract early and get the iPhone because the galaxy S2 battery was so bad. My boss has the Samsung galaxy S3 and he has had to turn his email off because it won't last more than a few hours with it on now. If I was going to have an android phone next it would not be a Samsung , their galaxy range is just junk, call quality is another issue with them.

This is SO true,

However i still wont be buying a samsung,

If i could have a samsung phone, with iOS, that would be cool, because apples hatred of anyone who who wants to use their phone anywhere that's hasn't got Perfect Signal and the option of charging part-way through the day is really starting to annoy me, but still not annoying enough to want to go back to the horrible fragmented experience that is Android OS.

Apple need to double the battery life, and not keep pushing the phone thinner, perhaps if they tested the phone under real world conditions rather than just under perfect and near perfect conditions they would realise that for a good percentage of the purchasers a signal quality drop = less than half a day battery life.

Or perhaps they could optimize the phones OS so that if it is in a low quality signal area, it stops overheating and trying to poll for data all the time, perhaps falling back to only checking data every 15 mins or so, As it is now if im out and hit a patch of low signal for an hour at a clients, my phone can get red hot, and eat through 10-30% of its battery in that hour, even unused in my pocket.

More advertisement for Apple, when will they learn...?

Still find it pretty funny how Samsung take to attacking Apple's users, their potential customers, rather than Apple themselves. So smooth.

How is this an attack on Apple or Apple customers? It's just an advertisement slogan for the Galaxy S5, no mention of any competitor or competing products anywhere.
Saying this is an attack would be like saying Apple's "It just works" slogan is a claim that everything else is broken or that their "Think different" slogan is implying that everyone who uses non-Apple products are conformists.

My friend had to get a battery that was twice the size of their GS4....pretty funny watching them walking around with that brick, actually. :D

...and if you want your iPhone to have decent battery life, you have to make it look like this:

juicetank-iphone-charger-5.jpg

If anything, you actually proved him right. Of that entire list, only 2 Android models charge faster than iPhones, and the Galaxy S5 is brand new.

But this discussion is specifically about the GS5 since this article is about Samsung's advertisement of that product.

I have no experience with the GS5, but it's undeniable that the battery life of the iPhone is pathetic. My iPhone 5S barely last through the day on average use, if I'm traveling and actually use it I have to charge it several times during the day.
It's really annoying to have to plug it in wherever I get the chance and have it plugged in til the last minute before I go. If I ever forget to do that before I go on a day-long trip, I'm basically screwed.

I used to have a Galaxy Note II and it had no problem lasting two days on a single charge, even with its "power hungry" display.

Their adverts are pretty comical I will give them that. At least they are not cheesy like Apple's. I like adverts with a bit of humour. I remember that one for a Nokia lumina at a school play where all the Samsung and iPhone users were fighting to take pics and showing off with their phones and the couple at the back stood smugly with their lumina taking pics. That's probably my fav phone advert.

As for battery life my galaxy phones have pretty decent life. For general usage I can get through the day on a single charge, having the option to carry a spare battery is what gives it the edge over the iPhone IMO.
