The ad doesn't mention Apple. Only someone who has some insecurity or actuall issue about their phone's performance would think it was aimed at them.

It's ok to admit that it's a clever advert. Regardless of what company is saying it - we all would prefer to not be tethered to a power outlet and yet, the reality is, at times we are.

Take a step back and look at the message instead of defaulting to hating it or thinking it's stupid because of where it came from.

More advertisement for Apple, when will they learn...?
Only in this instance Samsung come out on top, the iPhone 5/5s are dreadful when it comes to battery life, my phone lasts like 5 hours with all apps shut down, no data and location services.

My contract is up in 3 months, I'm going for the Samsung S5 or Sony Xperia Z2 (Samsung makes more sense based on the Smart Home).

Well it comes from Samsung so that pretty much makes it stupid :D

Actually you didn't think it through.

The apple phones are 40% lighter and smaller. Adding the battery case makes them of comparable size and weight to Samsung.

The Samsung phones barely beat apple, despite having twice the size battery.

Samsung also are pretty stupid... if people wanted a 3G only peice of crap that can't run any power apps... they would get a dumb phone. How many people would choose to go 10 hours with a dumb phone over recharging? Probably no one.

(Also is it just me or is America way behind the times: all planes in my country have TV's in the head rests with USB ports - so you can recharge your phone on the flight, everyone does it).

Let me get this right. You're going to defend bad math with even worse math and flawed logic?:eek: I'm honestly not sure what you're talking about with 3G either. As for your indictment of America... we're hurt.

Apple either cripples or doesn't have features in iOS because of battery conservation, ie widgets and real multitasking. See for example the "automatic" camera Dropbox upload on iOS as compared to Android. On Android "it just works". On iOS it has to use a hokey location workaround because of the 10 minute limit for "multitasking" in iOS.

You can't have it both ways. You say samsung barely beats apple but then comment that people don't want a dumb phone. People would also like to have widgets and real multitasking but don't because of apples decision to put a priority on thinness (to fit into Tim Cook's skinny jeans) and battery.

...and if you want your iPhone to have decent battery life, you have to make it look like this:

Image

And by the looks of that picture, it means that the phone is constantly charging. Meaning that you have one battery that is being discharged to charge the other, which in turn is being discharged to power the phone. That is not a good thing. It degrades the batteries, plus it might (don't know the inner workings of an iPhone, so this is speculating) disable some power saving functionalities since the phone thinks it is plugged in and has "unlimited" power.

----------

Samsung always do best when they run the tests and can skew the outcome, yet when an independent source does the testing they never fair as well...Food for thought.

The independent test a few posts above yours begs to differ.

----------

Then you have the 'power saving' mode that Samsung are pushing, they even go as far as 'black and whiting' the screen (this is purely for show - it still draws the same amount of power).

No, it does not draw the same amount of power. It's an AMOLED display.

I wish the Galaxy would automatically activate Ultra Power Saving Mode. If you aren't actually looking at the phone when it give the 15% warning, then you pretty much only have 10 minutes before the phone dies. I get that the phone has an awesome battery. But man that thing drains quickly.

Exactly how does Samsung come out on top?

Since when is the Iphone battery bad? I have had zero problems with it and in fact have found it to be better than any other smartphone I've used.

The funny part is that all my friends with galaxies a ALWAYS have an extra battery or charger with them. I have not once brought my charger out because I never need it. Sooooo..... Sorry Samsung but you fail

Android as a whole has more market share then apple even in the USA.

You guys are comparing Samsung alone to apple and not all the other android flagships.the old moto droid max easily blows the doors of the 5s in battery life and that cell is 2plus years old

Android does not have battery life. If the discussion is about battery life (especially in the context of Samsung ads), Apple vs. Samsung is the logical comparison.

On the flip side - my wife, sister-in-law and brother-in-law all have iPhones and are plugging them in throughout the day and I'm not on my GS4.

So.. there ya go with that "rule."

The Ultra Power Saving Mode concept is to seamlessly turn your $800 smartphone into... a $50 phone. Which, I suppose, may be useful in certain emergencies, but it's something people try to avoid at all costs.

The UPSM performs exactly as it's supposed to perform. It gives you the ability to use the phone in emergency situations (as you stated) without worrying if your phone is going to die before you can charge it. Seems to me that is something every phone maker should have. I don't see a downside. I think I would rather turn my $800 smartphone into a $50 phone than have it be an $800 paperweight.

He's referring to the Ultra Power Saving Mode, discussed throughout this thread.

It was sort of hard to gather that meaning reading what he wrote.

I was actually thinking about that as well. from an advertising perspective, this ad sort of blows up in samsung's face because it's missing context (context being that iPhones don't have this power saving feature and therefore needs to be charged more often). everyone here understands the context of this ad because we all follow the samsung/apple rivalry closely. but the general public doesn't.

instead what samsung has basically done is branded a whole bunch of power outlets as samsung charging stations.

Either your phone is messed up (take it to the Apple store, they actually help) or you live/work in an area with absolutely terrible service and its bleeding your phone dry.

The 5S should last all day.

Give it up Sam. Logical and measured thought has no place in the war to rid the world of Samsung. They must be stopped because... well uh... see they just... screw that. Samedung must die! You're just getting in the way of the mob tilting at windmills.:D

That's pretty funny and insightful.

I don't think you give the general public enough credit. The context comes from history. Specifically the history of Samsung ads that do mention Apple products. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to make that inference. If my 9 year old can get it, I think most adults will too.

A more interesting question is what harmful chemicals are used by Samsung in making the Galaxy?

And an on unrelated note:

What actress said:
"Hey, big boy, are you happy to see me or do you just have a Galaxy in your pocket?!"

Guesses?

None! That's right! No actress has ever used that line.

Doesn't even matter if Apple is assumed or not. The message is clear. If you get a Samsung phone, you won't be tethered to the wall.

Whether you own an iPhone, Kyocera, HTC, whatever - Samsung's comment is a USP/differentiator statement.

What MORE context do you need?

On any of my travels I've seen a fair share of Androids/iPhones/iPads/Kindles all being charged. I've never noticed this to be exclusively iPhones. I think anyone that is travelling will try to find an outlet to top off or charge up. Especially if you are on a long flight or use your device in the air.

Not really sure what Samsung is getting at in airports...

I understood it perfectly. I've seen a lot of spin regarding its meaning. Anyone without blinders on knew what inferences were being made. Cool hipster dude with the skinny jeans and untucked shirt (where have I seen that before? Hmmm, the last development conference with apple) vs the stodgy dorky PC.

Like I said, if anyone wants to know the definition of hypocrisy, they can come spend an hour on macrumors and there will be plenty of examples.

You clearly don't.

I'm a Mac and I'm a PC.

The dull guy in the Grey suit represents a dull computer running a dull OS.

The "cool hipster dude" represents a Mac that is bright and fun with a "fun" OS.

Hope that helped you.
