Looks fine to me.
At -3 and counting (plus comments), I see that lots of people disagree. Then again, you would argue your own case wouldn't you? Just happens that you are on the opposition instead of the side that knows a 5"+ screen on a MOBILE PHONE is a tad ridiculous.

Anyway, put your money where your mouth is otherwise it's just forum diplomacy.

This is like a homage of the 1990's gadgets with its classic large size and stylus done in a modern form. People forget sometimes how big are gadgets used to be. They were bricks! Everything from the Zack Morris phone, Apple Newton, Palm Pilots, Walkman, and Game Boy were huge back then. The Note looks to be a tweener. Either people don't mind carrying their phone + tablet or they solve it with just one device with some compromise. I generally am not a tablet fan. I have zero interest in an iPad or any tablet that pretty much runs the same mobile OS just in a screen 3-6 inches bigger. I believe laptops should start offering touchscreen more than tablets which are overpriced and only do less than a real computer. For anyone who wants to save money and some space, I can see why some would be interested in a 5.3-inch phone.

Some people it seems, and I am buggered if I can understand why, especially among Apple fandom, have real problem with everyone else having a choice..

It is like if one is happy with one's particular item, everyone else must be happy with exactly the same item, and no one should dare ask for something different..

Beyond me.. but these forums are prime example how some people react on suggestions of difference, choice and ability to provide outside the square..

Edit: Come to think of it.. It is much like the ongoing public debate we have in WA here, whether the shops should stay open late or not... People argue that shops shouldn't because they don't want to go shopping late.. Which is bloody retarded.. If one doesn't want to go shopping late, or doesn't want a larger phone for that matter... Just don't freaking buy it...

That screen is way too big. A phone should be able to go with you all the time, but that one probably wouldn't fit in my pocket, so it would only be able to go if I was carrying another bag. I guess I'm in the minority though since I think even 4" screens are too big.

People want it because they think size alone makes a difference... I agree, 4" is even pushing things beyond what I class as a mobile phone and into the area of "crossover" devices.

doesn't look that bad

Samsung Galaxy Note basically has the size that harks back to the 1990's. A tweener for a phone and tablet. A 21st century technology with a 20th century size. A modern gadget that is also a throwback to the gadgets of yesteryear.

That size would fit in any of my pockets just fine. Maybe you should stop wearing skinny jeans ;)

And how exactly is a 4" screen too big? I'd think "too big" would be determined by the overall dimensions of the phone. Color me silly.

How are you not permanently banned yet?

Sorry, the Note isn't only a size increase. The resolution is well beyond what any other handset has, and it has some features that no other mobile device has...even if you never take the S Pen out of it's silo.

God forbid anyone have a different opinion than you. I really wish we could have less choices...hell, make it NO CHOICES. I hope Apple sues every other manufacturer and wins...and then goes on to make only one phone with an update every 2 years. Then the world will be better.

Meanwhile, Apple is merely stuck in 2007...

Yep. I think we all figured around here that the iPhone would only have to increase it's width something like an 1/8" on each side to squeeze in a 4" screen. Yep, that's HUGE!

How are you (twitt3r) not permanently banned yet?
Trust me, the ignore list is a wonderful thing.

The size is great if you think it is for you. The Galaxy Note is not a "one size fits all" device. Samsung is not Apple.

Amen. People that say a 4" screen is too big make me want to laugh. Seriously, 4" is too big for you? What are you, that guy with small hands from the Burger King commercials?

This is a perfect phone/tablet for people that only want to carry only one item.
I would love it if the iPhone 5 had as large of a screen as this if not I will be getting this Samsung.

This reminds me when car manufacturers were making SUVs as big & powerful as possible. That didn't last long.

This is an iPhone 4 on top of the Note. The Note looks absurdly big. Pretty much impossible to use with one hand.

I do see a market for this but it's a niche one. Most consumers will want something smaller and easier to use with one hand.

Nice shot of the largest and the smallest smartphones on the market.

Yikes, i definitely wouldn't use this on a daily basis.

Although, I can see this device doing really well in corporations.

i remember getting the 2G iphone on launch and thinking it was big for a cell phone. I'm now so used to the size that I think it's tiny, especially compared to my thunderbolt.
lol so true:D Now we will may have to get used to the new bigger form

I don't see why everyone is so shocked by the size. The iPhone fits in the palm of my hand (doesn't hang off or touch my fingers). Not everyone is the same size as you, there are those who were blessed with large masculine bodies. Samsung has a device for every size bracket on the market, no one is being forced to buy the Note. If it's too big for you, guess what? They have a smaller phone that will fit your hand. Is that still too big? Well don't worry, they have an even smaller one.

I didn't even know people still made phones with a stylus. Seems more like an april fools joke than anything.

As a person who sometimes writes in Chinese and who has many Chinese friends, lamenting the disappearance of the stylus is a very real thing. It's so much more annoying to try and write characters with my iPhone, especially since I'm not that skilled at it.

I must say the Note looks great and I can see it being a very useful device, but there are problems:
It's far too big to be my everyday phone; making a second, more portable phone almost a requirement. Unfortunately the current cell model does really support this use-case very well. Best case you need to dig through the back to get to the SIM card to swap (GSM). Worse case you need a second plan (CDMA).
The other problem is that 5" is too small to be a tablet device since it fails to differentiate the experience from what a more modest phone already provides.

Call me crazy, but I like the Note. If the iPhone 5 doesn't deliver I may use my upgrade on the Note instead.
