I think it's only 480x800. I believe it's the same on both sizes as well. Wish it was qHD

Yeah, that's what's keeping me from upgrading to the S2. Knowing that Samsung will be releasing HD screens in the near future. Pretty much keeping an eye on the rumored Prime phone and iPhone 5 now.

Honestly...come on this thing has just the the same dimensions as the very first portable cd-player and a stylus? why didnt they put a headsetband with spongy yellow earwarmers with.

Ofcourse it fills a gape, by dropping in it!

I didn't even know people still made phones with a stylus. Seems more like an april fools joke than anything.

the cool thing about this phone is that, you don't ever have to use the stylus, ever. you can just use your phone without ever utilizing the stylus if you want.

Not bad, but it still does not have the pixel density of the iPhone! Samsung= 288 pixels/inch VS 326 pixels for the iPhone. It will not be as sharp & clear as the retina display. I just wonder what the iPhone 5 will be like...

I had an idea: what if these devices (Galaxy tab 7.7, maybe Galaxy Note) could be used as a landline-type device. Keep it at home, for the family to use (a small child doesn't need a cellphone, but they do need to call). This would offer iPad like educational functionality, games, and be a phone. Just a thought I had, what do you guys think?

Would you look like an idiot talking into what is effectively a small tablet? Hell yes.

Looks fine to me.

Wow, 5.3" screen? Are you freaking kidding me?

I guess Samsung is confused whether the product is a smartphone or a tablet, so they're 'trying' to play it safe. Let's see how it does.

But i wouldn't want to be the one carrying that block around, and using it as a smartphone.

I really do hope that the iPhone 5 does have a similar form factor. Similar as in, bigger screen, smaller body. Something like the Galaxy S2. C'mon Apple if Samsung can do it, why can't you?
But the biggest i'd want the screen to go up to, would be 4", without increasing the device size so much.

I think that's just wayyy too big for the iPhone. In my opinion they should just stick to the same size it is now. No need to make it look all bulky and whatnot.

Seems like Samsung is trying to fill a new niche. Of course all of this fuss is about a phone that hasn't been produced yet, just like the next version(s) of the iPhone.

By the way, i am not convinced the phone is too big - there are a lot of places to carry a mobile phone besides a pocket. Besides, styles change and I would not be surprised if fashion designers are looking at ways of accommodating larger smartphones in clothing.

Looks fine!? Maybe in opposite world.

Like I said before, this phone is definitely not for everyone. That said, I still think it looks fine held up to his head, and for some the screen size would be a worthy trade-off for ridicule during a phonecall.

Stupid Samsung.

What a shame as a Korean. They always try to copy someone's work, they never lead something in market.

They still think hardware is first thing they need to improve.

One big reason why many people still using iphone is UI, their software.

Software that makes hardware running smooth.

Copy?? Watch these videos of the devices being used. Then tell me how are they copying?

The Note can do things the iphone and ipad can't do. The annotations and cutting of images and sending them like that is amazing.

I guess a time will come where all phones will probably be this big. To me though, at the moment, it just looks odd.

Like you say though, its personal taste.

With phones getting bigger this brings connotations of trigger happy tv :') http://www.google.co.uk/m/url?ei=LZ9gTtiwAsSI8gONnp_EAg&q=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v%3D27aVPqpnL7Y&ved=0CBYQtwIwAA&usg=AFQjCNHIdTadpzxu002B-u1ItGRN9_C-uQ too me if we aren't careful we will be going backwards, I don't want a phone the size of a tablet.

I can see why Apple is suing Samsung. They're making Apple look foolish with all these new phones while Apple hasn't released a new one in a year and a half.

Yearly cycle of iphones, albeit a slight delay on the iphone 5 is how its always been.

You think releasing a ridiculous amount of products is the way forward?

I didn't even know people still made phones with a stylus. Seems more like an april fools joke than anything.

Quite the opposite. People are used to pens and pencils for drawing and taking notes.

Adding active stylus input alongside capacitive finger input makes a lot of sense and is part of a trend towards accepting more of the ways humans are used to interacting with objects... finger touch, pen touch, brush touch, air gestures, voice, even facial expressions.

Apple is no doubt working on similar things, just as they have since the days of their 1987 Navigator concept. Otherwise they risk being left behind.

Yes, very MS Courier-like.

I guess a time will come where all phones will probably be this big.

Naw, not all phones will be this big. Nor should all phones have small screens either. People can and will be able to choose different form factors and price ranges... even from Apple, just as with their Mac and iPod lines. Apple's just been trying to squeeze the most profit out of a smaller phone lineup up 'til now.

As these devices get thinner and thinner, there are fewer and fewer design choices you can make. So it's inevitable that they will start looking like each other.

The entire argument/lawsuit is frivolous if you ask me.

I saw people running around in Seoul with these ginourmous screens....they looked like tools. I don't understand the desire to carry such a large screened device around. It's no longer pocketable.

I think it looks ok, it's nice and thin so wouldn't really 'bulge' in the pocket, but then you get the advantage of having the large screen to watch TV and films surf the internet on the bus/train or you can use it as a nice large screened satnav for your car which you would take with you anyway.
also the size is a good for people who don't want to carry a man bag but want a large screened device, the ipad is too big just to carry and certainly cannot be pocketed, whereas the the iphones screen can feel a little small at times.

only problem with it is that it's got all the samsung bloat on it, I just wish it had a more stock (therefore faster (security) updates), perhaps ice cream will change that (I hope).

also I find it pretty amazing that it has the same amount of pixels as my 15.4 inch laptop all in 5.3 inches
