But Android versions prior to Nougat will never get split screen (barring the Touchwiz implementation) just like versions prior to Marshmallow will never get Doze. Updating individual apps is not the same.

And iPads before the Air 2 will never get split screen even though they are running iOS 9 or higher, so updating the OS can still have fragmentation issues too.

OS has functions beyond maps apps and saying that OS doesn't matter so much since Google can update apps separately is SIMPLY WRONG.

Maps was just one example, and I simply said less of an issue. Most people dont care what OS version they are on anyway.

Thats a hardware issue though. Nothing apple can do about that.

Inferior by a numbers standpoint perhaps. If you really care that much about DPI being super high you will probably not be happy with an iPhone at any point in time. I still just cannot see the point to these stupid high resolution screens they cram into flagship Android handsets. Yes I've used them, no I don't see a single benefit unless VR is your thing and at that point its niche at best.

What are you doing that you need that high DPI of a screen? I for one don't want the battery hit and everything else that comes along with it.
No it's for rendering video and 3-D art work on your phone ha ha Ha ha ha but the funny thing is the processor can't even pull it off... its as slow as molasses.... Nine times out of 10 you're outside looking at your phone so doesn't really matter how many billions of pixels you see it matters if you can actually see the screen at all lol!

Samsung always gains the upper hand over Apple with its spring phone releases. I don't know why Cupertino doesn't bring the iPhone launch date forward...

Probably to capture holiday sales as soon as supply starts to meet demand from the launch. Plus since most phones launch in the spring part of the calendar, there's less stress on suppliers in the fall so they have more resources for the iPhone.

While the Galaxy phones themselves are nice, the biggest problem with them when you compare directly to iPhone is the lack of support.

Here are a list of Galaxy S phones, their release year, their latest officially supported OS and that OS's release year

S2 (2011) - Jelly Bean (2012)
S3 (2012) - Kit Kat (2013)
S4 (2013) - Lollipop (2014)
S5 (2014) - Marshmallow (2015)

Compare that to iPhone where the iPhone 5 (2012) is running a 2017 OS.

It still amazes me this doesn't get brought up more. It's a huge factor when comparing like for like.

Likely because they are nothing alike. Google develops and announces and turns over to the OEM's to develop their editions. When Google announces it isn't "ready to go". Apple does it differently. When they announce it is released it is ready to install and use.

Different methods. This Year vs. Year is a fallacy of comparison. ;)

One or two or thousand examples is irrelevant. If you can't get latest OS with latest security updates, stability improvements and other OS related features its not going to matter if you have latest hangouts app.

And people who don't care about OS version they are on care much less about which version of app they use.

Doesn't look like a horrible phone at all! Physically, Samsung Galaxy phones, aren't as bad as a lot of people here make them.

I just prefer the iPhone and iOS.

So happy Apple already has a patent on finger-scanning through the glass. Lol. Sometimes I feel like Samsung just waits for Apple rumors and then goes into production. . .

They want it to "just work". Where have I heard that term in the past? ;)

Video editing on a phone, I too enjoy driving nails into boards with a banana.

I had a Samsung S3 with amoled screen but could not read it when outside in the sunshine or shade. Have they fixed this now?

This new Samsung phone looks a lot like what the i8 has been rumored to looks like.

AMOLED screens are a significant improvement over LCT and other technologies. Better picture, bendable (so can be shaped to new phone designs), and uses less power. Apple will eventually replace all screens if they can get a supplier that lowers the price. I think we will only see it in the 8 this year.

As far as curved display covering some of the edges, I don't have any experience with actually using one. It looks nice and an article reported less glass edge breakage as compared to bringig a flat piece up to the edge of the phone.

Do you think Apples chip will be better than an 10nm one?

I have also tried Android a couple of times, but not lately. Didn't like it. Always coming back to
apple like a trained puppy or happy customer.

Yup. When it comes to screens nowadays no flagship phone on the market comes close to Samsung

If that were the case then the older devices would have more up to date OS's, since they have had time to release and Samsung to patch, but they don't. It's still release OS+1.

Thanks but no thanks Evan Blass i'm waiting for the I phone 8 not some Samsung want to be Apple product .

I don't know anything about SAR and AirPods. My husband is quite fond of his. I will have to look into it.

Okay that's all I'll say on this subject since I don't want to derail the thread any further.

First of all, I truly wish you a lasting recovery. This is some very scary stuff.
As for the AirPods: they have the same RF output as a WiFi access point (100mw), so it's essentially like tying an AP to each side of your head and sticking the antenna in your ear. I initially bought them but have since stopped using them because they continuously gave me headaches (literally). Don't know whether it's the RF output or just the form of the device exerting physical pressure on my scull bone and / or cartilage. There are three different bluetooth classes, 1, 2 + 3. Class 3 has a power output of 1mw, class 2 has an output of 2.5mw and class one is at 100mw. So far, bluetooth headsets have mainly been class 2 (or even one). That has proven to be enough power to keep them connected for a distance of around 10m. Why Apple has chosen to use a class 1 radio with a range of hundreds of feet, nobody knows. It seems completely unnecessary and careless.

Why fix it if it 'aint broke? In terms of the physical design, my perferred version was always the iphone 4/4s, but there's only so much you can do with a device that size which is largely a screen.

This. What is everyone expecting? All phones from either company are going to be a rectangle with a screen. Forever. I don't how majorly you can redesign that.

Does this mean if Samsung beats apple to market a phone with no home button samsung will be able to sue apple instead of the usual apple suing samsung. That is if samsung manages to release a device without a home button first before apple.

I don't think it will be enough to stop the iPhone onslaught. Last year the S7 and yes the ill fated Note 7 were superior in many ways to the iPhone 7/7+, but still the iphones sold like hotcakes. This year Apple is blazing all its guns and its fans are seriously chomping at the bit for a new design, they are going to sell a record number of phones. I also foresee Apple keeping the fp sensor on the front as being more popular than Samsung moving it behind. What stood out to me as Samsungs number one advantage, having a larger screen in a smaller package, isn't an advantage anymore in 2017 as Apple moves that way as well. Even though the S8 looks like an awesome phone, it may be too little to stand up to a redesigned iPhone.

But the big winner is competition. I'll bet Apple would have gladly released an iPhone 7s instead of a redesigned iPhone if it were not for Samsung pushing them so hard.

Not trying to be a hater. All just phones to me. But anyone else think it looks kinda cheap and plasticky? The really rounded edges make it look kiddy.

Because of the beginning of school year and holiday shopping season.

As a true iPhone fan, this looks like a really nice phone. The Galaxy Series is coming a long way. I want to get my hands on this and test it.
I will wait and see what Apple brings us the fall. I hope it is no bezel for all form factors.
