[doublepost=1544521721][/doublepost]Why not just carry the adapter attatched to your wired headphones, by default?

Because then they couldn't act completely indigent about something that's relatively minor.

LG is the first Android option that comes to mind with a headphone jack now. That’s awkward to say the least.

It would be even dumber to have two incompatible connectors on iOS devices.

The benefits of Lightning Apple only connector far outweighs using "Open" USB-C Port. The only possible scenario would be Apple mandate MiFi for USB-C cable as well. I don't want to hear horror stories of some one frying their iPhone with crappy USB-C cable.

I mean, I know we can't all like everything, but I think 'half-baked' is a little unfair.
To each their own. I find FaceID to be frustrating and functionally inferior to TouchID. Having to look at the phone, have it vertical, and then an additional swipe to unlock is slow and failure prone. It'll improve but it's currently a gimmick.

Samsung today introduced its latest smartphone, the Galaxy A8s. It is Samsung's first smartphone with an Infinity-O display, which has a nearly edge-to-edge, uninterrupted design beyond a small hole for the front-facing camera.

It is also Samsung's first smartphone without a headphone jack, much to the amusement of iPhone users, as Samsung has mocked Apple for over two years over its decision to remove the headphone jack from the iPhone 7 in 2016, a trend that has continued through to the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR.

While on stage unveiling the new Galaxy Note7 in 2016, for example, Samsung executive Justin Denison made sure to point out that the device came with a headphone jack. "Want to know what else it comes with?" he asked. "An audio jack. I'm just saying," he answered, smirking as the audience laughed.

And earlier this year, Samsung mocked the iPhone X's lack of a headphone jack in one of its "Ingenius" ads promoting the Galaxy S9.

In the ad, a customer at an Apple Store asks if he can use his wired headphones with the iPhone X, and the employee informs him that he will need a dongle. The customer then inquires about charging at the same time, and the employee says he'll need another dongle. "So, a double dongle," the customer says.

To use wired headphones with the Galaxy A8s, a mid-range device for the Chinese market, users must use a USB-C to 3.5mm jack adapter.

While rumors suggest Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S10 will continue to feature a headphone jack, it could be the company's last flagship handset to have one. In October, Korean website ETNews said Samsung is considering removing the headphone jack from the Galaxy Note10 in 2019 and Galaxy S11 in 2020.

Samsung isn't the first tech giant to mock Apple's decision to remove the headphone jack, only to follow suit. Google poked fun at the iPhone 7's lack of headphone jack while unveiling its original Pixel smartphone in 2016, and then the Pixel 2 launched without one just a year later. Well, well, well. How the turntables...

Having it on my iPad Pro, I see the advantages vs Touch ID. The biggest benefit is that I don’t need to physically authenticate for password logins and using hey Siri from the lock screen; Face ID automatically handles all this in the background.

I think people miss the point. It’s not about speed, but about removing another layer from the interaction process.

And I don’t mind having to swipe up. Many times, I just want to see the notifications on my lock screen, not go straight into my device, so this current arrangement suits me.

Or they hadn't appreciated there would be an issue until it was too late.

But it wasn't a blind test. You would have known when you were using earbuds without leads compared to when you were using earbuds with leads.

No, I had a friend help with with this. He held up the corded version so it wouldn’t have the same pull as it normally would. It was a pretty controlled test, if I do say so myself.

I have had an iPhone 7 for over two years now, and I still think it was asinine to remove the headphone jack in favor of the Lightning connector.

At least Samsung is using a standard port - USB-C, so one adapter (or one pair of earphones) would work with any other standards based device. Apple is now eliminating the Lightning port in favor of USB-C, so now you have to have three different ways to connect headphones to a device in the Apple ecosystem. This is just dumb and sloppy.

Lightning was a transitional connector. Everyone knew it. The standard is USB-C. Apple should have waited with removing the headphone jack until they fully transition to the standards based connector on their iPhones and iPads.

After recently purchasing AirPods, I don't ever want to use a wired headset again. I played a little basketball with them and the quality was quite near the wired headsets. I think the phone call quality was even better since I could hear outside noise and not feel like I was in a tunnel.

People still use wired headphones?

Is there a reason they shouldn’t? I use both, my AirPods and my wired headphones with the adapter. There are times I want to use Bluetooth with the freedom of wires, but my wired headphones still provide a Superior experience with sound. As a consumer, I want options, and having options with Bluetooth and wired delivers entirely two different experiences altogether.

Are you speaking from experience? Do you lose your car key all the time too? Most car keys these days cost ~$150 to replace too.
what car do you have, all my cars have wireless key fob that i keep in my jacket with press start. comparing airpod to car key is literally the worst example.

The single camera hole makes the notch look nice, and coming from someone who skipped the X and Xs iPhones because of the notch it is saying something.

That was the biggest news actually yet the article and comments are all about the missing headphone jack! Just look at the hole! How are you supposed to watch a video or play a game with that hole in the screen!

When I have to tilt the phone at the right angle multiple times to get Face ID to recognize, is that really “removing another layer”?

That is your anecdotal observation. Other people have other anecdotal observations. Like for some people Touch ID is an anecdotal failure...

Like when Steve Jobs mocked the smaller tablets and large phones, only to make them after their competition made millions? Samsung probably knew they'd eventually remove the phone jack, but wanted to capitalize on the opportunity to mock the competition at the time.

Don't know why nobody is reading this: Samsung did NOT remove the headphone jack. The entire 350 post discussion was based on an incorrect article here.

Source for your claim? The article states Samsung removed the 3.5 Jack on the A8s, if it’s incorrect, please link evidence proving your statement. Also,Look at the photo’s, where do you see a headphone jack anywhere on the device? Also, other sources are reporting the A8s does _not_ have a 3.5 Jack either.

They DIDN'T get rid of the headphone jack.
They did on the phone being discussed. I don’t see what’s so difficult to understand. There’s about a thousand articles stating the headphone jack has been removed on the A8.
