Let's reimagine this situation as a non-tech thing so we can see how ludicrous that statement is, shall we? Let's couch that whole premise in beer... because hey, it's beer.

So, one day, Apple Brewing looked around and said, "Gah, everyone's drinking p**s beer. We can do better!" They went on to release a premium beer in a 12 oz. bottle. That was a smash hit. They then went on to prove that people also wanted a premium beer in a 32 oz. bottle--despite being derided by critics that it was "just a big 12 oz. bottle." And contrary to everyone's expectations, the 32 oz. bottles absolutely flew off the shelf at an astonishing rate.

Samsung Brewing comes along and, in a stroke of absolute genius, says, "Hey, maybe people who like 12 oz. bottles of beer and like 32 oz. bottles of beer, would also like 16 oz. bottles of beer." And what do you know? It's a hit!

Gee, who could have seen that coming?

Can you imagine anyone in the world of beer production actually bothering to bring this up as a win? It just sounds silly. Just like Samsung's "phablet" revelation. It was an idea already proven by Apple. Samsung just took the next logical step. It isn't something they deserve any kind of accolades for.

Analogy fail!

Who cares. I'm done with Samsung. waiting for a 2gb iPhone

A 2GB iPhone? Why? Seriously, don't you understand that is the crux of the problem? That's like saying "waiting for car with a 100 gallon gas tank". You should be waiting for app developers to invest even more energy into lean, mean optimizations. That's where the true performance comes from, not by throwing lots of RAM at the problem. Yes, more RAM will be nice, but don't make it the reason to wait, because by the time it arrives, then 3GB will be the sweet spot, then 4GB, then 5GB... and the wait will never end. Demand optimizations now, both from Apple and developers.

1,5gb of content are 1,5gb of content, it doesn't matter whatever you say, it will always be more than 750mb.

I really like Galaxy Note series, obviously I'm iOS user (iPhone/iPad and ofcourse Mac) but Galaxy Note is the best "phablet" imo.I own iPhone 6,but if I want to go bigger,it's more likely gonna be Note instead of 6 Plus.

If you use your phone for bluetooth especially the playing of music, you will be sadly disappointed. I have had both the Note 3 and 4, both of them skip during playback of music via bluetooth. Only solution is leaving the screen on and this has been a know issues for at least 3 years of Android phones and GOOGLE has done nothing. There attention to detail is superficial at best. I've been forced to use my iPad Mini like an iPod, but it never skips a beat. I am done with Samsung and Android PERIOD! I gave them 3 years to fix it, now I am going back to the iPhone when the next is released. Notes are nice phones, I will say that, but listening to music and using bluetooth is more important than any of the other features it may have.

I think we are going to start seeing a trend too and Samsung knows it that folks have played around with these Android phones, but are coming back to iPhone. I have at least 3 people in my office just waiting for the next iPhone that have Androids and plan to switch back.

I nearly kept the note 4 over an iphone 6. it was only those damn capacitive back and multi tasking buttons that made me return it, I kept hitting them by mistake when I was holding the phone in landscape. Other than that it was a fantastic phone. Really hope the note 5 has an option to enable software buttons.

It drive me nuts too and what about those pop up periods when you type. I mean really! I was recently in a board meeting and we got to talking about phones. One guys said, do you find your phone just puts periods in while you are typing. Everyone in the room was like YES! All Samsung Android phones. Like I said in another post 3 years of playing this Android game... I am done! I can't give them anymore time to refine this thing. It's great in some ways, but its like little things and the attention to details that matter. Like listening to music that doesn't skip via bluetooth or listening to music and starting another app that plays video will automatically pause the music and play the video. When the video is done the music starts back. NEVER has that worked on my Android phones. Hell they both will play at the same time. Again attention to detail and the user experience.

The end of Samsung as a phone manufacturer is getting closer and closer. I can't wait to see that day. :D

The only winner when it comes to Android is Google.

Edit: Even the Android fans know the end is coming. I've seen less of them on this site. This thread would have been more than 20 pages long a couple of years ago.

Same things happens to me as well...and its actually quite annoying b/c I keep hitting the "back" button on my Note4.

I decided to switch from an iPhone last year to Android to see how the other world lives. The Note4 isn't a bad phone. But I also feel its not an awesome phone that others claim it to be. There are a lot of likes about it (I must admit, I do like the additional external storage capacity, the camera is awesome, and the stylus is really handy when I used it). However, just like the iPhone, there are a lot of quirks about Android and most importantly the Verizon version that makes me think going back to an iPhone would be better (at least in my case). My biggest gripes: I always feel I have "work harder" to manage my music, photos, general data, etc.). Apps in Android don't seem as smooth or as programmed well compared to their iOS counterparts - - there are still a couple of Apps that I want that are still missing in Android). And as for the phone...the fingerprint sensor is a mess (I sometimes have to swipe a couple of times to access my Note4 and I've had to replace the phone 1 time b/c the phone would lose connectivity to the SIM card).

Not saying there are problems like this on an iPhone as well, but for me....I thought I'd be "wowed" by switching over as others keep saying, and the truth is...its just another phone with its good and bad points.

I will say however that its likely I'll switch back when my contract is up.

How so?

Apart from a few features, the iPhone and iPad are basically the same concept just done at different sizes. Samsung came up with the "brilliant" idea to make something sized in the middle after Apple had proven that a small touchscreen device and a large touchscreen device could be a success (despite many people claiming they would fail.) Why do people insist on giving Samsung kudos for coming up with something sized in the middle of two proven successful products? I don't understand. No other industry would praise such a thing.

This is how competition should play out. Very smart move on Samsung's part. I'm currently a Note 4 owner and had a Note 2 and 3 but this year I'm ready to switch over to a iPhone 6s if iOS 9 is stable. I had a iPhone 6 but due to bugs I returned it. But on my iPad Air 2 the latest iOS has been smooth. I'm currently on iOS 9 beta and I love how smooth true 2 apps at once works. If the iPhone 6s plus gets two apps at once I'm sold.
So yes, Samsung better release the Note 5 before the iPhone 6s comes out. But for me no more Samsung for the next 1 to 2 years. I won't say forever because this industry changes pretty fast.

This is an incredibly arrogant, dismissive, and frankly ignorant comment that does nothing to further the conversation. All it does is create animosity and degenerate what could be an insightful and enlightening conversation.

If you had written: "In my opinion, phablets are stupid" then given examples to support your opinion, it would have been much more palatable.

Get over yourself.

She's stating a fact: phablets are, indeed, stupid.

Sometimes an opinion is also a fact; so it is in this case.

What would be fantastically hilarious is if Apple's event takes place in August. There was a rumor that it might be a few weeks earlier this year! Might be possible since there aren't many changes externally. The 5S didn't change much but was supply constrained by Touch ID components. The 6S isn't changing much but might be supply constrained by Force Touch components, just as the Apple Watch was said to be. Otherwise it's not outside the realm of possibility. Furthermore, iOS 9 beta is already a lot more stable than iOS 8 and many of the changes are under the hood. We should get a better idea when the iOS 9 GM drops.

Apple could certainly do with some momentum after their floppity watch.

yeah, why so upset then, can't you be open minded like me,I mean I own pretty much one sample of any Apple product.and I really think Note devices are awesome.I don't need to limit myself to just one thing and live in anger and pain and hate.
??? me, upset? Nope! I already tried Android. In fact, I switched to the iPhone when the 5s came out.
I gave Android plenty of time to work. It just sucks!
And people I know who use Android phones and tablets, are not happy. They are always amazed at how reliable my iPhone and iPad are.
