Have to say, first time I recall agreeing with Samsung on any of their marketing communications cell phone related. I just think it is complete BS that Apple raises prices as much as they do and them eliminates the chargers and ear buds. Then has the audacity to say it is to meet environmental goals when it is super obvious it is for financial reasons.

I've said it in other threads and will say it again here....... I am a large investor in Apple and I like them making more money. But this move is BS.
I had a feeling Samsung would have their people here to defend against Apple. Then they followup stating which Apple products they own or that they own Apple stock to justify their Apple trashing. Happens quite often.

I get that Apple wants to save waste and most people don’t use their adapters in the box. But most people don’t have USB C adapters. So they can’t even use the USB C cable that comes with it. I think Apple should’ve included an adapter this year and going forward not include one.
This would probably have been the most reasonable solution. But they were probably pressed to reduce costs everywhere they could THIS year due to the expense of going all in on 5G. And as we’ve seen before, Apple can be kind of abrupt with their moves.

I very much like my Samsung phones but I think what they’re doing is stupid. Because it really is a move in the right direction for the environment and it will save Samsung money to do the same thing with their charging bricks.

And while I appreciate their “generosity” they have definitely contributed to some egregious cases of e-waste over the years. They did at least finally give customers the option of declining some little plastic adapter that I’ve never used once and now own a small pile of. So I do think it’s a matter of time when they make the charging brick an option to decline or order separately.

It looks like an ad campaign thought up by an insecure kid to basically say “Don’t forget we had 5G first!!!” They did. And one reason I’ve stayed with them is they have always paid through the nose for good Qualcomm modems and offered much better call quality than my cheap azz intel modem-hobbled iPhones. In a poorly served area like where I live, my Samsungs have been necessary to my commute.

They do some really cool things, but their campaigns against Apple make them look like amateurs. And they’re not. They make really excellent phones, beautiful phones for Android customers. But they have really snide ads.

Don't underestimate them. They will swallow anything without any data or proof required.

And they'll continue ignore the fact that Apple is now saving boatloads of cash on logistics and product because of this move, and passed on zero of that savings to the customer.
How do you know they haven’t passed it onto consumers? Do you know what it costs Apple to produce these phones? If their margins are less this year than last, that’s exactly what they’ve done. The Pro Models have a 5G modem, a larger display, new wireless charging hardware, and more memory in the base model yet cost exactly the same as last year. The 256GB models have all of these changes yet cost $50 LESS.

Alright, I can charge through my laptops ports so I can do without the charger. Yes, earphones are optional accessory but I NEED this PROPIETARY Lightning cable. A lot of people who don't follow tech will get a nasty surprise when they get home and open the box to find they cant charge their device.

When I go to buy a product I expect it to "just work".

Another thing is Apple cables are absolute junk, they all fall apart sooner or later, I can always use a new Apple cable. If they care so much how about they design a cable that lasts longer than 2-3 years.

Read a little more carefully...Apple only removed the plug and the earbuds. They are still including a lightning cable in the box.

I'll have to pay around 70€ to get Earpods, Lightning cable and 5W charger. No, I don't already own those. What really sucks is that Apple lightning cable is proprietary. If Apple was for real they would include a promotion where you can get them for free or massive discount if theres need. There should be a law that prohibits this. You don't sell an consumer electronic product with no way to power it.
I'm sorry but your price quotes are outrageous. Also, subtract the price of a lightning cable, because every iPhone comes with one, and they just reduced the price of earpods and 20w (much better than 5w) charging bricks, if you must buy first-party.

Samsung's marketing people are literally so stupid. They never learn anything - just take the cheap shot right in the moment, then look like morons in a year when the Galaxy S35 doesn't include an adapter either. Then they will be in overdrive to wipe all the tweets and videos from their YouTube channel.
Indeed. I could totally see the hardware and software guys facepalming hard every time one of these adverts come out.

Disgraceful, what Samsung is saying is they don’t care about the planet, let’s just continue our users don’t care so we don’t

They will 100 percent pull their chargers from future phones following Apple.

Manufacturers have been ditching chargers for years in Europe; Apple are no trendsetter in their decision.

The only thing Apple unquestionably leads in, is greed

They cynically included a USB-C cable knowing full well “millions” of existing chargers are useless with that cable.

Greedy and nothing to do with the environment

You don’t own a single plug with 5W (or higher)? For the 0.01% of people this applies to you can get one on amazon for £5 and a lightning cable for about the same price. Paying £10 as a one off is totally worth it when you think about the benefit to the planet.

I haven't had a Samsung phone in a while, but I do remember their cables being a bit more robust.

But ... as others have said, they will follow suit in 6 months to a year. Now, if they wanted to be different, pack a set of wireless ear buds with the phone. THAT'S how I would mock Apple.

they always give away a set of wireless earbuds with all their flagships for the first 30 days following launch? (Plus a set of wired earbuds, a case, a screen protector, and fast power adapter)

because they have to bribe people to buy their new phones in any sort of volume.

Apple is literally removing things and they are still going to sell more iPhones at launch then Samsung ever has or ever will of a new model.

oh my God, the comments here that are so over exaggerated.
You could get a pack of 10 lightning cables from Amazon for 10 bucks, and a brick from the nearest convenience store for five bucks.
On top of that, I’ve seen some knock off EarPods at the dollar store for, a dollar. So quit exaggerating, it doesn’t cost you another $200 or whatever you guys are saying to get these accessories.

"Haha, stupid Apple, trying to lessen the impact on the environment!"

Seriously, Samsung?

because apparently the existing USB-A to lightning cables will suddenly stop working or disappear or refuse to work with the iPhone 12.

No...but if I ever owned an iPhone before the 11 or never owned an iPhone, i don’t have one of those cables or power adapters? So my iPhone 12 cable is useless to me.

...and for the record those adaptors are all useless with my iPhone 12; Apple knew that when they made their cynical decision, but no worries they’ll pretend it’s all good for the environment and they’ll all lap it up.

I mean, I don't believe ditching the included power supply was anything other than a cynical cost-saving measure but to then openly mock a company for doing so rather than actively promoting your own products ain't very classy. Some would they they must feel threatened...
Theres nothing "classy" about Samsung.

Samsung are being very short-sighted on this matter. Whether or not they decide to follow suit in the fullness of time, and decide to help out the planet, it is very poor form of them to mock Apple for trying to cut down on electronic waste. Apple are doing the right thing here. Samsung are not.
