Why do people celebrate user hostile moves by apple like ditching the 3’5mm jack or selling separately a basic component needed for normal function like a charger?
If you’re a shareholder I totally get it, this will widen the iPhone margins, but otherwise...

Of course samsung is mocking apple. With the headphone jack or the non-removable battery at least there was some practical reason like a reduction in size or improved water resistance. Forcing you to pay for the charger has absolutely no reason other than to check the amount of crap people are willing to put up with. Apparently, a lot.

How come everything they mock they end up doing themselves?
I don't think they will copy this I know someone who works for samsung and the last two years they have not been copying apple but rather have been going their own route . They never copied the notch and actually did better. Their note 20 ultra fits way better in the hand than the clunky looking iphone 11 pro max. Also performance on the note 20 ultra is just blazing fast. Benchmarks aside it's a great piece of kit. I have 6 lines for the family all are iphones and the note 20 ultra is hard to beat guys. Real world tests on you tube show the phones are neck and neck performance wise . Samsung gives better trade ins and accessories and I'm loving it compared to apple. My two cents might not mean much here just wanted to chime in .

Samsung makes fun of Apple for not including chargers and earpiece in the phone box anymore. But we should all remember the necessity to preserve our planet. Including ditching millions of extra chargers we don't need.
So what i see now is a company laughing at another company that tries and be more eco-friendly. And that makes me sad.
We should actively do anything we can to be responsible towards our home. Our dear Earth.
That would include not switching phones every year, which seems to be the base of everyone claiming to have dozens of chargers laying around.

Can someone please tell me why 120Hz on a Phone is an absolute requirement? This is someone speaking that has a 144 Hz monitor on their computer, and am actively using the higher refresh rate on the iPad for drawing. But this is a PHONE! Why is it REQUIRED to be 120Hz. People are losing their absolute minds that its still 60 Hz. Going from my iPad Pro and my 144 Hz monitor on my computer, I do not notice the 60 Hz on my phone. Yet I can immediately notice 60 Hz on my secondary display on my computer. So its not like I don't notice a difference.

Also, regarding the USB-C cable and lack of adapter. I honestly wish they would stop providing the cable too. I am not using the USB-C cable I got on my new iPad Pro because I needed a longer cable. So that cable is just in my drawer. Also, doesn't USB-C have better power management than USB-A to where even third party USB-C adapters are safe to use?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't there be *more* packaging for the separate USB-C power adapter? It would be nice if they offered both options, with the one without the adapter being a bit less. It would cost Apple more logistically, but would be better for the environment overall.

Apple's removal of the power adapter, at least, is purely driven by profit. Sure, there's a side environmental benefit, but that's just something extra that they're using as marketing. If they're worried about redundancy of the chargers they should've included a 18 or 20W USB-C charger since not many households would have these instead of measly 5-10W USB-A charger that everyone has. Of course I'm not an average household so have at least 5 different USB-C chargers ranging from 18W to 60W ;)
You realise in making this strange augment against apples choice here, you have actually strengthened it right? It would definitely be a waste of money and time, and and incur an increased carbon footprint and an increased potential ewaste factor to deliver an iPhone with the power adapter to your house.

Dear Samsung, you fail to mention the load of bloat- and other useless-ware you load with your smartphones? I'm sure your users are very happy with that, too.

Nothing wrong with not including a charger with the phone, unless they don't compensate by dropping the value of the charger from the final cost. Drop the charger, drop the price. Awesome. Drop the charger, don't change the price. Jerks. Drop the charger, raise the price. To the 4th circle of Hell with y'all.

Do people forget its a new phone? They didn't just drop the charger from the iPhone 11 and kept the price the same.
Drop the charger (lowers price)
5G hardware/software (increases the price)
Other enhancements (increases the price)

It causes a net $0 price change. New features add cost, dropping charger decreases cost. Even if it didn't, it IS true it will help the environment.

Environmental concern is not a reason, it’s an excuse.

That being said, one of the things I like about apple is they really seem to care for the environment. Only this time it’s a money grab, plain and simple. If their concern was only the environment they should sell you the charger at production cost with the iphone if you need it.

I get that Apple wants to save waste and most people don’t use their adapters in the box. But most people don’t have USB C adapters. So they can’t even use the USB C cable that comes with it. I think Apple should’ve included an adapter this year and going forward not include one.
It has been common for a while now. Newer computers have USB-C ports, newer Apple products have bricks like the iPad Pro (which again I threw in my drawer because I already have several USB-C bricks around the house).

Even if 99% of people buy even third party USB-C bricks, its still a 1% improvement to the environment. But I think the percentage is much better than you think. All my family has USB-C bricks. My friends do. They can use new computers.

You don't even need to give Apple another $1. Just get an Anker - https://www.anker.com/products/variant/powerport-c1/A2018121

It's a new phone. If people are coming from a previous version, they likely aren't going to have a 20W USB-C Power Adapter already. The power adapter needs to be packaged, with additional paper, additional closures, packaged separately.

Cost is one thing, but saying environmental reasons, I just don't buy it. Apple was making people ship back their Watch Series 6 with solo loops because it was a set rather than just swapping out the band at an Apple Store. That alone isn't an environmental friendly option (requesting a box to be shipped to you, transporting it through a shipper to some depot to be processed, a brand new watch being shipped from China to you). Luckily they reversed course, but let's be frank about the environmental reasoning.

The lesson Apple keeps teaching and which others keep ignoring is - to create true meaningful change in a market, you need to force change. By taking bold unapologetic stances.

Apple just wants to make the best possible products (based on their own definition thereof). In contrast, Samsung is obsessed with beating Apple. And that is why Samsung will always lose in the end. Because they still don’t know, in their hearts, what it is they want to stand for.

And it shows in Samsung’s product design and decisions.

True, Apple removed the disc drive because it didn't have a future. But you still need to charge a phone.

My take...this is a play to get people to buy MagSafe chargers. If they included a power adapter in the box, people wouldn't have a reason to go buy one...and while your here looking to buy one, look, we have a new innovative type of charger!

Samsung on its social channels is mocking Apple for removing the power adapter from the iPhone 12 lineup and other iPhone models, pointing out the fact that the Samsung Galaxy smartphones continue to ship with a power adapter.

samsungfacebook.jpg

"Included with your Galaxy," reads a Samsung Facebook post that features a picture of a power adapter.

Apple notably is no longer providing power adapters or EarPods with iPhone purchases, a change applicable to the new iPhone 12 models and new purchases of iPhone 11, iPhone SE, and iPhone XR models. Apple says that the change will let it cut down on carbon emissions both through the elimination of the accessories and through the smaller box size iPhones now use.

Apple at Tuesday's event said the shift was made for environmental reasons, but there has been speculation that Apple may have removed the accessories to cut costs due to the expense of the 5G modems used in the new iPhone lineup. Apple's iPhones ship with just a USB-C to Lightning cable, and power adapters and headphones must be purchased separately.

Though Samsung is touting the USB-C power adapter that comes with current Galaxy models, rumors have suggested that Samsung too plans to stop including chargers in the boxes of some of its smartphones starting in 2021. Samsung is allegedly planning to nix power adapters because chargers "have become widespread" and doing so will cut production costs.

It's not clear if this will happen, and Samsung may opt to keep offering power adapters to differentiate its smartphones from Apple's iPhones. Samsung did, however, make fun of Apple for removing the headphone jack from the iPhone 7 in 2016 before copying the decision and releasing the 2018 Galaxy A8 without a headphone jack.

Samsung has a long history of mocking Apple's design and product decisions, oftentimes prior to adopting some of the same changes. Samsung this year is targeting the iPhone 12, which competes with its Galaxy Note20 5G and Galaxy S20 5G lineup. In addition to the rib about the power adapter, Samsung has also shared a tweet that mocks Apple for being late to introduce 5G.

Apple's first iPhone 12 models will be available for pre-order starting tomorrow, with the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 and 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro launching first. The 5.4-inch iPhone 12 mini and 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max will be available for pre-order on November 6.

Be responsible Samsung don't waste precise energy, plastics etc. Dare to try and not be like all the rest and just be greedy and waste more resources on things people already have.

Lol rich coming from the worlds most popular 2nd place player of the apple copying game. Miss me with that weak marketing attempt, and cya during the S30 announcement you utter hypocrites

It’s simple

Existing iPhone upgrades use existing charging blocks and cables and use new cable for a wired connection to iMac / MacBook / Mini.

New iPhone switchers use new cable in blocks provided by competitors who have mainly adopted USB standard already.

Seems environmentally positive to me.

I’m not sure Samsung have thought this through 😂

Always the same story with them, first they mock Apple and then they follow suit six months later. I like to think people are too smart for this sh*t.
