because they have to bribe people to buy their new phones in any sort of volume.

Apple is literally removing things and they are still going to sell more iPhones at launch then Samsung ever has or ever will of a new model.

woopety-do! So when its proposed that Samsung should give away wireless earbuds and I point out that they do, your response is to say it’s a bribe and then rant about how many phones Apple sells. Hmm ok, well if it makes you feel better....

You're 100% right - they will ditch it like they did headphone jacks (after mocking Apple about that)...I'd have more respect for Samsung if they stayed the course instead of following Apple.
Or just don't mock them for something they know they will do anyway. I swear I heard that the had announced that they would be getting rid of the charger in their upcoming phones, maybe it was another Android manufacture.

Samsung has all the tools to make a better smartphone than Apple (AMOLED and NAND technology & production, S-Pen, a self developed Exynos SoC that used to be rather competitive, etc) but that won't happen with copycatting all the BAD things Apple does (headphone jack ditch, non user replaceable battery, non expandable internal storage, etc), with introducing "novelties" nobody really wants (curved edges, foldable screens, etc), and with undermining their real advantages.

There isn’t a single product line that Apple makes that does not have a headphone Jack...they sell iPhones, iPads, and Macs with headphone jacks...who are the real hypocrites?

How do you know they haven’t passed it onto consumers? Do you know what it costs Apple to produce these phones? If their margins are less this year than last, that’s exactly what they’ve done. The Pro Models have a 5G modem, a larger display, new wireless charging hardware, and more memory in the base model yet cost exactly the same as last year. The 256GB models have all of these changes yet cost $50 LESS.

Boy that's rich.

It isn't my problem what the components cost Apple. It is their job to increase the value of what they offer. I'm not expected to sympathize with them that worthless 5G modems cost them a lot in fees.

The iPhone 12 is $829 which is a $130 increase over iPhone 11. While also removing $60 worth of accessories (now $40 due to price changes) from the box.

I don’t see the big deal with the removal of the power adapters. The iPhone has been out for how long now? I’ve got at least 10 usb plugs in my draw. I can’t be the only one!

I had a feeling Samsung would have their people here to defend against Apple. Then they followup stating which Apple products they own or that they own Apple stock to justify their Apple trashing. Happens quite often.
Or... it could be someone who genuinely disagrees with Apple getting rid of the charger and headphones.

I agree with the dissenters. Apple went USB-C only on Macs for their own benefit. The headphone jack was removed not for "courage" but for AirPods money combined with hardware-savings money. The wired headphones are going away now for that same reason.

The chargers are going away for MagSafe money for sure, and for a future port-less iPhone savings, perhaps. They didn't have the "courage" this year, maybe.

But it could maybe also be for environmental reasons as a secondary, ancillary benefit. The two don't need to be mutually exclusive.

All that said, can you really have too many chargers?

I have a charger plugged into most places around the house where it makes sense, as my kids are constantly looking for somewhere to plug in their phone or iPad. I leave one in my office, and my cars, just in case.

The way I see it, useful things are never useless.

I have 5 or 6 chargers laying around my house. If I want another I can spend the $20 and get a 7th one.

You keep your chargers Samsung. I’ll my keep my iPhone 12 Pro Max with my pile of charges I already own.

Not a great look. None of the corporations are great environmentally, and "green consumerism" will never do more than scratch the problem. But if we are trying to raise consciousness about climate change, Samsung has to realize that today's consumers are increasingly making choices based on environmental preferences. In this instance, I can see the mocking backfiring.

Yawn... sorry, I’d mock them too. Their claims that the exclusion of the charger was an ecological decision is pure and utter BS. Why then is the cable that is provided USB-C? Anyone? Everyone raving that they already have a charger, do you have a USB C charger? How many iPhones have used USB C charging cables?
Can we please skip the size comparisons, the feature comparisons, the ranting, the raving, the salivating, and the public masturbation over a phone? Please, move on.

Whilst I think this is more about Apple saving money as opposed to the environment, it will still have a positive impact and reduce so much e-waste. For Samsung to mock it is rather pathetic and could backfire.
It can be both. Reducing e-waste is good marketing, from Apple's point of view. Their niche market is very environmentally aware

You do realize you are posting on a forum that is precisely about the things you are telling ppl to stop doing, right?

it’s funny, but I have accumulated a dozen extra charging blocks over the years and really don’t need one with every new device now...

It a bit sad that Samsung chose to differentiate themselves from Apple with a 2 bit charger. However, I think Apple should have given with each new phone a $40 credit at Apple store so users could either get the damn charger and/or earphones or apply the $40 to something else they want... like EarPods or a magSafe.

Alright, I can charge through my laptops ports so I can do without the charger. Yes, earphones are optional accessory but I NEED this PROPIETARY Lightning cable. A lot of people who don't follow tech will get a nasty surprise when they get home and open the box to find they cant charge their device.

When I go to buy a product I expect it to "just work".

Another thing is Apple cables are absolute junk, they all fall apart sooner or later, I can always use a new Apple cable. If they care so much how about they design a cable that lasts longer than 2-3 years.
I still use my lightning cable from my iPhone 5... I have every cable, charging brick and earpods from every iPhone since so I don't mind the move. By the way, Apple still includes a lightning cable with the new phones...

There doesn't need to be a law holding every product to that standard. Apple's been making things that "just work" for decades, without any laws dictating it, to build their brand. It's like saying Windows should be illegal because it sucks.

Samsung makes fun of Apple for not including chargers and earpiece in the phone box anymore. But we should all remember the necessity to preserve our planet. Including ditching millions of extra chargers we don't need.
So what i see now is a company laughing at another company that tries and be more eco-friendly. And that makes me sad.
We should actively do anything we can to be responsible towards our home. Our dear Earth.

People need the chargers and will go drive their SUVs to the Apple store or order a bubble-wrapped Amazon package to get them if they don't come with the phone.

I find it that Samsung is always playing defense against Apple and never offense. They were the first to 5G and many other features that they claim, but still are very nervous of an Apple onslaught every fall to winter. Samsung with a 2-year head start on 5G has sold less than 10 million sold year to date. Apple will do this in 1 day! Sorry, Samsung you missed out. You are the ones playing catch up. Apple by end Dec will sell more than 50 million 5G devices. LOL!

Who cares about a $5 charger that we can buy on Amazon or eBay. 120Hz drains your battery.

Oh and by the way...I last I checked Apple's App Store valuation more than Samsung's entire portfolio of electronics, semiconductors, etc valuation...

In some ways, I feel like the mocking is justified. IMO, Apple's nixing of the charger was a bit premature, especially since we're not talking 5W adapters, but rather 15W+ adapters. In other words, "too soon."
How many chargers do you have leftover in your house that you charge your phone with? I rarely take the lighting cable and power adapter out of the box. Apple realized that.

No...but if I ever owned an iPhone before the 11 or never owned an iPhone, i don’t have one of those cables or power adapters? So my iPhone 12 cable is useless to me.

...and for the record those adaptors are all useless with my iPhone 12; Apple knew that when they made their cynical decision, but no worries they’ll pretend it’s all good for the environment and they’ll all lap it up.

All those adaptors pictured were Apple Adaptors. And every single one of them can charge any iPhone released including the iPhone 12. Albeit some pictured will charge it slower than others. What is true is how only one of the adaptors it looks like is compatible with the USB-C cable the iPhone 12 ships with but if you have a ton of apple USB-A adaptors chances are you have an equal amount of USB-A to lightning cables to go with them that are still usable. If not then hey, at the same time as they announced the new iPhones Apple lowered the price of the USB-C adaptor to $19 from $29 and even improved it at the same time to be 20w instead of 18w. What a deal!
