Let’s not forget that Apple themselves have copied the duo name and form factor from the Microsoft surface duo, from seven years ago

30 years ago, Apple had a product called the PowerBook Duo. It was a PowerBook and docking station. The docking station featured additional hard drive space, ports, display connections, etc... while the PowerBook was a streamlined version of the portables available at the time.

It was, if you're at all familiar with Apple history, a computer with the power of a Quadra that was born to roam.

Apple has done what you'd expect from the brand, i.e. joined in with a technology sector only once it can do a decent product.

Samsung has done what you'd expect from the brand, i.e. unremarkable and instantly-forgotten marketing.

The surface duo was literally this product though, only seven years ago.

Look it up — it’s nearly the same dimensions and meant to be used in exactly the same way.

No. Apple didn't either. They used it for the PowerBook Duo back in the mid 90s.

Samsung took to social media today to mock the iPhone Duo while Apple announced the device.

In a series of sarcastic posts that did not explicitly mention Apple or the iPhone Duo, Samsung made comments like "Let us know when you're done reheating our leftovers" and "Was it exciting? No. Did it happen? Yes."

Samsung used an #ItsTimeToSwitch hashtag in some of its posts.

Launching on Friday, October 23, the iPhone Duo will compete with Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold8 and other foldable devices already on the market. Apple will begin accepting pre-orders for the iPhone Duo on Friday, October 16, with U.S. pricing starting at $1,999 for a model with 256GB of storage, compared to $1,899 for the Galaxy Z Fold8.

It's crazy that a so called professional company act in this way...every single year. Imagine if Apple wasted their time doing this...I guess when you're the leader of the pack you don't have to pull any of the shenanigans of those that are chasing.

Mocking a competitor is done from a position of perceived weakness.

In the past, Pepsi frequently mocked Coca Cola. Coca Cola never mentions Pepsi at all.

Without Samsung this iPhone would not exist. They developed the technology and are the one making its display. Apple just designed a few fancy icons, zero innovation.

Apple really made an effort to reduce if not eliminate the crease in the screen. Instead of jumping the gun when the first foldable was released, Apple waited for years until they got that right.

If next year's Samsung folding phone doesn't have a Liquid Metal hinge and a thin titanium plate under the screen like the iPhone Duo, I'll eat my stinky sneakers.

Samsung have been making foldables for almost a decade, and released their Fold 8 couple of months ago, so how have they copied Samsung? All the optics look like it’s the other way round.

I don't know why Apple does not look at developing their own screens or going to another OEM.

I don't know why Apple isn't promoting this more, but these are 100% their screens. Samsung and LG are merely physical manufacturers. Apple develops the entire technology. These are the only screens with movable layers and a matte finish.

Maybe one day Samsung will behave as a market leader, shipping far more Android phones than anyone else instead of an iPhone wannabe? Touting how much better their Android phones are than all the others. Today won’t be that day. 🙂

Really? That doesn’t seem to be the case for a long time…..

Compared to what Samsung has? I recently traded in a Samsung phone for a Pixel. Samsung's version of Android was really bad (just my opinion) compared to stock Android. Android has its benefits, but after starting with Android years ago, switching to iOS, trying Android again from time to time, iOS is considerably better (again, my opinion) than Android.
