LOL thats funny.

Good angle on the whole "3.5G is really 4G" marketing crap.

4G is the *only* 4G, I wish carriers and manufacturers ( i.e., Apple ) would stop marketing 3.5G as if it were 4G.

First, 4G is NOT LTE. That's a marketing lie. Its LTE+. LTE is almost 4G, but not quite.

Second, I have not seen ANY evidence Apple will call 3.5G 4G. They've refused to, despite being pressured by AT&T.

I'm not the biggest defender of Apple by any stretch-heck, I can seem anti-Apple trollish at times to fans-but Apple hasn't done what you're attacking them for.

Although anyone who thinks that this ad is targeting iPhone buyers probably doesn't understand that its targeting anti-hipster sentiments. It isn't insulting its buyers.

Bad Move

This is the most moronic piece of marketing I've ever seen. How stupid of a business move is it to attack a cult following? They can attack the product all they want, but really? Don't insult the educated consumer.

I am irritated by Samsung's failure to innovate and the blatant attempts to copy the iPad. The one Samsung product I own will be going up on eBay this week. I am thankful I don't own one of their televisions.

Honestly, I picked up my friend's Galaxy tablet and couldn't figure out how to turn it on without a little prompting. Reminds me of Jakobsons book, "Don't Make Me Think". I'm a grown man and an engineer but apparently not smart enough to turn on a Galaxy tab, my thought is that this soon shall all pass. Let all the third parties jockey for their portion of 1% of the tablet market share. That's laughable.

I find that the Galaxy S2 is a very very overrated phone.

I have one and I gotta admit it's a bit of a dud. I'll most likely sell it and get a proper Android phone without issues, if there is such a thing... Or a 4S which I know is going to be reliable. (As soon as they patch the battery issues that is.)

Issues that my S2 has had over the past few months:

1: 3G does not work when HSDPA/HSUPA is enabled. If it drops down to 3G due to bad coverage you have no data, none whatsoever. Disable HSDPA and 3G works but you get much worse connection times.

2: GPS works fine with a data connection, but without one it's hopeless. I tried to use it abroad last week but I had to stay fairly close to my hotel because even after 10 minutes the GPS just wouldn't get a lock. It could see 8-10 satellites but it never ever got a lock. I could easily reproduce this issue over and over. In a car, on foot, standing still, on the move, out in the open, indoors. It just didn't work. Whereas on my old iPhone 4 it was rock solid in both the UK and Norway, CoPilot guided me and my friends across two countries without a hitch.

3: Camera performance, with the latest firmware it's absolutely useless in low-light conditions. Regular camera is fine, video camera lags like there's no tomorrow. It auto-focuses every 3 seconds and every time it does the FPS drops to below 15 and the final recording is useless. I replaced the camera firmware with one from the Samsung Infuse 4G and it now works fine... But the LED light is dead, completely dead. That's a compromise I'm not OK with.

4: Random bugs. I know Android can be fantastic because it's open, but sometimes things just don't work like they're supposed to. The other day my battery life dropped from 60% to 0% in a couple of minutes. And that was after I shut it off, but I guess something kept it on and the juice ran out in record time. Random reboots etc.

I've had numerous Android devices over the past two years or so and never been all that happy with them. For me a Galaxy Note would probably be the perfect device since I use these things for media and whatnot, but Samsung has burned me twice now and I won't buy another Samsung phone. (On the first Galaxy S the GPS didn't work, and I tried two different phones, same issue on both. They never fixed that, unacceptable!")

The problem with buying a Samsung/HTC/Whatever in a market dominated by iPhones is that the perception that Android users are nerds who hate Apple.

These basement dwelling keyboard mavericks have every reason to hate the quasi socialist walled garden Apple markets to the masses in their "sexy" and user friendly devices.

Apple needs to work on this stereotype.

lol nice link, but you are right my brother in law is a PC geek who has developed a hatred for Apple since getting his first smartphone - a Samsung Galaxy S2, he loves it and thinks Apple is taking over the world etc I tried telling him it's the other way around, but it's impossible to tell him anything now.
I'm not Apple fan boy and use PC & Mac's but I must admit I am slowly becoming a big non- fan of Samsung now and probably will avoid buying anything from them, which I find odd as I never felt that way before about any manufacturer. But I do see them now as cheap Korean clone knock off manufacturers who doesn't give a toss who they run over on the road for market dominance.

Found this ad funny... For all the wrong reasons

I kinda felt sorry for Samsung on this. They tried hard... really hard... too hard.

I disagree with most of the people here, and I suggest that this ad is actually for the iPhone haters, not Apple fanboi.

It's full of cliche comments and rubbish concepts. I actually laughed out loud when I heard the line 'If it looks the same, how will people know that I've upgraded'?

At that point I knew... KNEW that it was about android users. People who aren't big on quality, and just look for something they can show their friends. In fact the whole ad was appealing to phones that they show their friends.

'look at the screen'! 'look, I can say this phone is pretty amazing without saying why'! All said by I man showing off his phone to iPhone users who stare at it with awe. The ad is making the viewer want to be that guy, be just like him. Be able to say 'it's pretty amazing' to their lovelorn friends.

It's paying out on iPhone users. Hate to break it to you guys, but this was all about them... not us. To anyone that may have been considering a HTC or one of Samsung's cheaper phones. All 28 different models of them.

The basic message is that anoraks who queue rather than wait a day or two for the latest gadget are dorks. And I concur. Whichever companies are involved.

Samsung didn't make that up. Everything in this ad is pretty much true.

Its not even close to being true. I have yet to know anyone who owns an Apple product because its trendy. People buy them for stability and because they work well, not because of image.

I bet anyone a ton of money that if Apple stuff stopped working well people wouldn't buy Apple products anymore. This happened in the past and will happen again if Apple ever gets bad again.

Come on, why are so many people here getting mad and rushing to justify themselves ? You bought an iPhone, I bought an iPhone, it's cool. Samsung has an awesome device with the SGS II, that doesn't change anything to your iPhone.

I too laugh at people that need to queue up for a device and the stereotypes portrayed (not to mention the mirroring of even comments on Macrumors : "It looks the same" "Uh oh, battery life..." "I'm a creative") is quite hilarious. :D

Kudos to Samsung for a well executed piece.

Kinda reminds me of the threads on the Harley-Davidson forums when South Park took at a jab at "Harley riders". Insecure people getting offended...

Its not even close to being true.

They basically took quotes on Macrumors. All those comments in the line are things I've seen posted in the iPhone 4S threads. ;)

Especially ironic that you would now develop this level of self-consciousness because of an ad, but yet you use Tanuki Mario as an avatar...

The ad was already funny, but reading the comments here is even more funny.

It's just some stupid phones, it doesn't really matter. Some like one, some like another ... people really seem to enjoy these flame wars over nothing, mac vs pc, xbox vs playstation, ios vs android, etc.

Rule number one: Always state opinions and personal experience as facts.

Rule number two: Whoever disagrees with the facts is obviously a moron.

:)

I could care less about the ad, I know Samsung makes crap phones (I've owned many since I get them through work) and I expect this phone to be no different. I'm just pointing out that like many unintelligent people, the makers of this ad think people buy a product because of brand alone. Sure maybe 1% do but if an iPhone wasn't a good phone, I wouldn't own one, neither would most other people.

People who use Apple are always criticized for their choice for no reason. I get hammered daily for it at work because I am a Windows tech with a Mac. I always hear about these mythical "fanboy's" and "Apple fanatics" yet have never seen one in real life, and have only seen one on the internet on the Macrumors forums.

I buy Apple for performance and stability and the fact that I don't have to dick with it to make it work. I make a living fixing computer issues, I love coming home and not having to bring my work with me so to speak. Same goes with phones.

As for my avatar, I love that game and grew up in the 80's when it was popular. I know I get slack for it here and there when I use it as an avatar but I like it and won't change it :p

That is a amazing statement considering sales #'s of Samsung / Htc. And please do not start with "free", "cheap" and all those "smart" arguments to tell my why that's the case.

I'm telling you there's so many unintelligent people out there that it's scary! I'm just pointing out FYI.

Uh ? How is that different than the criticism you've just displayed against Samsung buyers ?

I never got criticized by anybody for using Apple products and guess what, if someone tried to, I wouldn't give 2 craps about it.

Again, you're getting quite worked up and mad. Why ? Tanuki Mario... self-consciousness. Not. Blending. Here.

Let me fix this up for you :

See what I mean ? ;)

Drop the defensive, learn to laugh. Ad was funny, if you got offended, it's because you're being waaaaay too self-conscious. Yet there you are using an Italian plumber dressed in a bear suit to represent yourself. A bear suit that grants him no extra properties except to turn into a useless statue.

the ad is clearly doing what it intends to do

which is to alienate the bulk of apple's buyers from the apple girlscouts. the girlscouts are the ones that stand in line for days, read forums like this, evangelize apple to their friends, call steve jobs 'steve', talk about their phone as if its an important lifestyle decision, etc

most mac owners, whether they realize it or not, probably find mac girlscouts as insufferable and embarrassing as non mac owners do

this is why the ad is smart. it mocks these people, yes. because samsung was never going to sell phones to them to begin with. its a non-starter.

but mac girlscouts aren't the people who buy mac. people buy apple as a status symbol, and will gladly move on to the next thing once they feel stupid enough buying apple. its a luxury item, a brand, and can be replaced with a number of other things

anyways, if people here seem mad, its because the ad mocks them specifically.

Ha ha, I love how folks are getting snarky because of Samsung's cliched portrayal of Apple fans. Way to validate the perception.

PS: Samsung isnt making fun of your kids/spouse/lover/parents/etc personally, all this is tech wars, so dont be poodles.

I'm not mad, I just don't think the ad is accurate. Too many people think the same way the ad does and as a user I am sick of getting flack for it. Its so annoying every day to hear Apple bashing if someone sees my iPhone at work, or if they ask me what kind of computer I have (which is often since I am an IT guy).

As for you not being criticized you are lucky, I get it all the time and I don't even mention to people what computer I use. I had someone in my office once who saw a Mac monitor on my desk (I never even said anything to this guy) and his face turned red and he said something to the effect of "You are just another one who sucks Steve Job's ******** dick!" and stormed out. Mind you I said nothing to him I was simply working. Talk about childish. He was at least in his 30's.

Also I didn't criticize Samsung buyers, I said Samsung makes crap phones and I expected this one not to be any different. I've had 6 of them and hated all of them. They were great at first, but went downhill fast. Each one did the same thing: Terrible battery after a few months of use, constant non-ringing calls (the ones that show up as missed yet the phone never rang even when I had perfect coverage). If someone else gets a phone and doesn't have those problems, great but I won't chance getting another one and I'm usually patient with technology bugs.

I do get annoyed too easily at Apple bashing ads, I will give you that but its really because I hear it all day every day and am simply sick of it. I once had my job called in to question at a place I used to work because a lead tech learned that I owned a Mac and thought it meant I was bad with computers and couldn't handle Windows. Thankfully my work proved otherwise and I kept my job. Talk about a silly accusation.

It's probably gonna strengthen their faith in Apple. If you tell a muslim Allah doesn't exist and some other God is better he's not gonna ask himself questions, he's just gonna believe even more in Allah.

What do you mean by "faith in Apple"? I know that many people like Apple's products, but "faith"?

And why are you talking about Muslims? Do you think they are different from Hindus, Jews, Christians, or anyone else in that respect?

Drop the defensive, learn to laugh. Ad was funny, if you got offended, it's because you're being waaaaay too self-conscious.

You realize that is the argument of each and every schoolyard bully? If you have to tell people to laugh, then it wasn't funny.

I will never understand their business relationship.

Samsung has a VP for electronic parts. That guy is responsible for making electronic parts, like ARM processors, displays etc. and selling them to everyone who is willing to buy. That guy will do everything to please Apple so they buy more parts and he gets his bonus for selling more parts. He loves Apple for giving him billions of dollars. And that guy just saw this advert and started swearing at some other people working for Samsung.

And there is another VP responsible for selling phones and tablets. And he doesn't give a damn about the first guy, and he hates Apple. That's about it.

You've got a point there, at least with "Lemmings." But may I point out, that was 26 or 27 years ago?

It's a good comparison. 26 years ago Apple did an advertisement that mocked their competitors' customers. And Apple paid dearly for it. Massive negative impact on Apple. Today, Samsung does the same. (The 1984 advert on the other hand is still considered a masterpiece of advertising).
