But what does it have to do with Samsung? Why would you pay to share this message? And do you really think its unique to Apple users (who have basically had 2 different but similar phone designs.)

Is the point that apple users are morons or that Apple are morons for making a phone that looks the same as the previous one?

The point is that Apple makes whatever the hell they want to make, leave out features that people ask for or that are common place among other phones and there are a select few fans (that look and behave a lot like the guys in the commercial) will buy it anyway. Case in point....all the complaints that the iPhone 5 and it's larger screen didn't manifest yet the 4S sold record numbers. Based on the preliminary complaints, that is a remarkable feat.

What does this have to do with Samsung? Well, it's a commercial aimed at the undecided and folks who don't want to come off with the persona of the die hard in the ad. They are targeting specific people, it got the attention they were looking for, and they will probably end up selling quite a few phones off of it.

All we have to go on is what we've seen. And what we've seen from the competition, marketing-wise, relative to Apple, isn't all that impressive or effective. In Samsung's case here, the timing is way off and the subject of attack is pretty misplaced.

Samsung's ad is a lot like their legal moves: oddly-timed, confusing, and ultimately not very effective.

That is so incredibly false, the only way that you could believe it to be true is if your entire life's worth was depended on a brand from the opposite end of the spectrum.

Here, take another look. In only two days, this is what the ad has managed to do:

I really miss this phone, the battery lasted 1-3 days with heavy use. The only reason I went back to iOS is because of all the apps I had spent $$$$ on, should have just got an iPod touch and kept the GS2.

Beautiful screen even though YouTube videos don't look as good since it has a lower resolution.

Who's the demographic viewing it and hitting the "like" button?

;)

Is it the bulk of the market (Joe Average), or is it tech-heads and Android fans?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A405 Safari/7534.48.3)

I'm a little late in this post, but here is my "F! you Samsung".

The ad show a dark wallpaper locked screen on the iPhone, but a bright foot on the Samsung phone, talking about misleding advertisement ...

Loved It!

Been an Apple guy for 25 years, before some of you were born. The commercial nails it. Frankly, some of your responses could be used as arrogant responses in a new commercial. Relax, laugh, and enjoy it. "dude your a barista" Crack me up.

Unfortunately, no amount of spin can make this story look good.

Don't worry though, youre not going to spontaneously combust just because apple and its cult are being ridiculed. Its ok dude, life will go on.

Are you suggesting that I'm mentally unfit because I accept reality?

No because you're talking all kinds of nonsense as if LTD wasn't enough.

"Poor Apple?" Bla... Bla... on a youtube video. Just relax. Next quarter's figures come in and then you'll be calling names with people buying iPhones as sheep. Just cool down.

I lol'd today when I saw this on the t.v. I thought it was funny as all get out AND very right on. Those of you saying it's mean or not funny or isn't accurate are just sour grapes. Well done Samsung but I'm still not buying your phones.

You do realize that Samsung would kill for the kind of mindshare that has consumers standing in line for their gear . . .

Interesting how they mock the very situation that every Apple competitor covets but can never quite get.

But hey, if you can't have any of the glory, just make fun of it.

Gruber nailed it.

Samsung Galaxy S Ad Goes After*iPhone*★
It’s a tacit admission that they’re (at best) number two, but this isn’t all that different from the sort of humor Apple used for years in the Hodgman/Long “Get a Mac” campaign. The deft touch in Apple’s campaign is that it was the PC that was a buffoon, not PC users. A fine line, and many PC users felt Apple was mocking them, not their machines, but Apple wasn’t trying to convince all PC users to get a Mac — just the ones who were on the fence. This one from Samsung is more “people who buy iPhones are image-conscious fad-following idiots”.

Droid "Pretty" campaign: Reloaded

Mocking the customers of the hottest company in tech, barely a month after worldwide Steve Jobs adulation and memorials, on the heels of opening iPhone 4S sales of 4 million units in the blink of an eye, at a time when Apple's customer satisfaction ratings are tops across the board, and when Apple's *other* hit iOS product is completely unchallenged in the space that's moving toward next-gen computing.

This strategy, at this particular time, will only work if you're trying to convince your own customers to avoid what is otherwise a very contagious Apple-frenzy, that is about to lay claim to the holiday quarter. Again.

Those are the same people that write stuff like:

"This commercial isn't gonna help, it just makes the Apple Fanboys cry and try harder for people to get into Apple's stuck non-free world, I mean Android is about freedom!!! choose your phone, choose your carrier!! and when you have the phone! change the music player if you wanted! you don't even have to use the keyboard that comes with it, Apple Fanboys don't know about some of that stuff because they are too stubborn to actually try an Android, or they do know but just to stubborn"

It's funny. I am pretty sure a very large part of Android comes from teenagers who just wish to look cool, tinkering with keyboards, themes, etc.

You mean the same crowd who fell for the whole Moto Droid robots/lasers/homophobia thing?

If so, the only thing Apple has to worry about is the usual: keeping up with insane demand.

Gruber is one of the biggest apple fanboys in the world... he's only trailing david pague, bgr and the guy from techcrunch and the technobuffalo guy...

samsung is mocking hardcore apple loyalists and targeting the fence riders. they released a second ad mocking the "there's an app for that" thing apple started.

I have no problem understanding this video going viral. Neither do I have any problem seeing why a lot of people enjoy it. That being said it’s not like neither of these facts automatically translates into effective marketing. Like I’ve said before: There is very little in this ad to persuade anyone to buy a Samsung. The main point seems to be that Apple-fanboys are silly. So while the fanboy-parody hits the mark I still don't see how this is designed to sell Samsung phones.

O.k....Currently I'm still using a Nokia flip phone so I go to the att store and play with the Samsung, the Windows 7 phone and the iphone side by side...

The samsung and the Windows 7 phone were snappier on the net and about the same speed when opening apps maybe a hair quicker...The screen size and the light weight of the phones were nice however their lightweight also contributed to a plasticy lower quality feel as the iphone feels like a quality piece and isn't so much heavier to offset the enjoyment of use..Also I found the iphone much easier to navigate and explore the features of the phone...IMHO the actual experience of using the phone was more enjoyable for me on the iphone because it's so simple to find and use everything...The other thing that popped to my attention on the Samsung and Windows 7 phone was they displayed flash content on the net so advertisements cluttered the page and reduced the size of the content of the things that I was actually there to look at..Iphone net experience is much cleaner.

Flash is optional. You can either disable it or uninstall it completely. I have an HTC Glacier, unlocked, rooted and flashed with MIUI without Flash.

You should use Opera for web browsing, its by far the best mobile browser.

Seriously

Reading most of these posts makes me smile. Aloud.

I've been using macs since 1989 and I totally fall in the category "I buy almost anything shiny Apple makes." But seriously, some, and by reading the posts I mean most of you should wake-up and realise that Apple is not a religion and therefore anything concerning Apple, it's undertakings or it's products should not be discussed with religious zeal.

The ad is funny. Period. If you get offended or otherwise ticked off by it, you probably should take a long look into mirror and ask yourself whether you are taking things a bit too seriously.

oh the irony

What Samsung has accomplished is to shake up the cult like Apple worshipers like never before. As far as generating sales, the general consensus on this forum is so skewed it matters not one wit.

In addition the fanbois simply can't fathom the concept of abundance so I won't bother clarifying or even explaining that to the ones whose identity hangs on Apples every move.

Fair enough Bugs... sorry Vitzr. I just don't see why this would be especially helpful to Samsung? If this was a campaign sponsored by Google it would at least make some sense, but I find it hard to believe that Samsung would spend money just to annoy fanboys. Where's the benefit?
