These adverts are embarrassing. Why doesn't Samsung focus on showcasing their products instead of bashing the competition? Are they trying to be Microsoft or something?!

Yes but when it's Apple doing it, it's a "genius campaign", "I love these ads", "they are sooooo right", etc.

Not really what the post you quoted is saying, as the "I'm a Mac" ads often showcased the benefits of using Macs while bashing the competition.

The focus was always on the benefit of the Mac. The Samsung ones are mostly pointing out flaws of the Apple and the iPhone.

I enjoyed the "I'm a Mac, I'm a PC" ads. I also like the Samsung ones, except the last one.

Don’t really care about the headphone jack however I know there are a lot of people that do, particularly if you are an audiophile.

But if you're really that much of an audiophile, then there's no possible way you'd have high expectations about what you're going to get out of a portable device's headphone jack.

EDIT: I'll go one step further and say that if you were that much of an audiophile and cared that much about portable audio, you'd be inclined to use an artisanal external DAC connected digitally. In other words, a dongle.

But sound quality through a wired connection is better than other Bluetooth.

Also it depends on the quality of said headphone jack as they are not all the same.

Similarly, the customer characters seem very much like a typical retail shoppers asking questions about a product they might want to buy. These seem to represent the non-fanatic who is not overly intoxicated by whatever Apple has decided to put up for sale regardless of what becoming an owner may require of them to be able to use them as they may have been able to use phones in their past.

Maybe that's so for the fast charger and headphones ads, but not for the camera ad. A run-of-the-mill, non-fanatic customer bringing up DxO scores? I doubt it. But as I alluded to earlier, maybe real customers do pick up these talking points. Maybe it's an effective ad campaign. The ads strike me as obnoxious, but I'm not the target audience.

Phones have be come polarizing, like sports teams and political parties. The latter two definitely cater to their base, mock outsiders but not really changing minds. If you ask me, Samsung is doing the same thing here.

Samsung commercial definitely reminded me of Apple's Long and Hodgman commercials.
(sigh.... anyone else remember the peace and tranquility before portable phones?)

They are not trying to push a particular phone. They are going after a mindset. Now I know techie boyz need everything spelled out for them, so here, they are tryiing to undermine the competition, which means a different approach.

Don't worry: they will have a product-specific ad with a spinning phone and techo beats galore to satisfy you soon enough.
They do have adverts which only focus on their devices. This is just another type of advert.

Its okay to wake a few sheep up now and then. Comparing products is a valid marketing technique, "Where's the beef?"

Those first 2, can’t really argue with haha

Especially the fast charging

For how much the iPhone X cost, they should have included a fast charger.

Remember when Apple used to include little extras beyond stickers? The dock in the original iPhone was pretty awesome

Yes and they also say that the equivalent Samsung phone has said feature.

It’s like saying get a galaxy S9 because it has a headphone jack and you can get a free fast charger in the box and a better camera.

If you care enough about the difference between bluetooth and wired, then I posit that it's unlikely that any portable device's headphone jack is going to be good enough.

Has anyone ever seen any sort of comparative review of various phone's analog output *anywhere*? How do we truly know that the Apple dongle isn't providing earthshakingly superior audio quality compared to what's on offer from Samsung?

I mean, if we're going to have the quality argument, then let's properly have it.

What I'm saying is I think this is ineffective at changing the "mindset" of the average iPhone user. Fast charging and using an adapter aren't big enough issues generally speaking. In fact this dumb ad even points out you get the dongle free in the box. I think the majority of people latching on to the horrible burden of using a tiny extra piece of wire at the end of your headphone wire are people who already own Samsung devices and hate Apple. This ad does more to retain those people than it would to make someone switch. And they call the iPhone "ten" in the ad, and the apple logo is only on the guys shirt. How many, non-tech people are even going to realize what they are referring to?

Yea because Microsoft made those "I'm a Mac, and I'm a PC" commercials. Steve Jobs himself never missed an opportunity to make fun of Windows in Apple keynotes and all the fanboy and girls would go crazy with laughter. Now when we have bandgate, keyboardgate, frizergate, screwyourcostumersgate and other companies are giving Apple the taste of their own medicine all the apple's faithful are crying out loud for then to stop. MS should make a freezer and toaster commercial.

No, the focus is always on Apple in the Samsung ad, and for your headphone jack example, "Samsung" isn't mentioned once in the whole ad, except in the logo at the end.

Definitely not the same.

I'll go further than you: WE'RE not the target audience of these ads. IMO, the bulk of us are here because we're pretty much married to Apple. Not many of us would even think about buying something Apple makes from some other company. In that sense (if true), Samsung advertising budgets are completely wasted money in trying to sell us. But then, Apple's advertising budget is also wasted money in trying to sell us (because we're buying anyway).

So I see these as not being aimed at the passionate MacRumors crowd but the general public shopping for a smart phone. Pepsi advertising is probably not going to seduce Coke fanatics. Chevy ads are not going to seduce Ford fanatics. Etc. But beyond fanatic segments, there are plenty of people not so dedicated to Coke or Pepsi, Chevy or Ford, Samsung or Apple. That's probably who the ads are trying to reach.

Does it work? Do Pepsi ads work? Do Chevy ads work? Eye (or wallet) of the beholder. Personally, I see this kind of thing as just planting seeds. Maybe a few fence-sitters might be moved by any one seed. Poor shoppers seduced to the dark side (whichever side one views as dark).

There is alot of hurt apple fans in the these comments. But what is being said is true. I stopped buying iPhones at the 5. I've been using Samsung ever since and never had any issue. Also glad I still have a headphone jack. And expandable memory. And fast charging out of the box.

When your main sales argument is to discredit others, it is that your company is not doing well....

The two fundamental product strategies are low cost and differentiation. That is, showing how your product is different from the competition.

My objective opinion is that we are at a stage where the smartphone innovations are very incremental. There is nothing mind blowing. So, advertisements will try to showcase the weak points (again subjective) of competitor. However, at least these ads are not as bad or irritating as "What's a computer?".. that makes me feel like slapping myself!

If these adverts wind you up, take a chill pill.
Just look at them for what they are.
I think they're kinda funny.
I completely agree for the sentiment. Just forget the rivalry and enjoy the ad for what it is. It's not a preaching ad like Apple puts out.. only ad from Apple I like is the face id one.. the music and the subtle idea is awesome!

I’m a Mac, and I’m a PC...
Wasn’t that long ago.

While it may appear to be a similar campaign, Apple adverts talk about how much better a Mac is/was than a PC. They showcased features of the Mac, hell the Mac was at least mentioned.

These ads, just bash. I would think that makes a difference
