Then you should throw away your Apple products too. Apple has been through worse cases of fire prone devices. And unlike Samsung, Apple denied that problems existed until after class action suits were already kicking their butt.
Not true at all. Safety recalls like this Samsung garbage has never happened with Apple products. If what you were saying was true then the government and safety advocates would have quickly jumped in.

Erhm, genuine question: which fireprone Apple devices are you talking about which got recalled? I mean, there was the Beats Pill XL, but other than that... honestly, I'm struggling to think of what product you might be talking about.

The Apple III, possibly?

He's probably referring to the cheap Chinese iPhone chargers that blow up, and Apple had no obligation to swap out but did anyway.

Lol an entire product line was recalled by Apple? No, your just making yourself feel better. Samsung has to pay for loyalty while Apple users pay to be loyal

Seriously? Who would want to stay loyal to a company who trashes 2.5 million phones (http://motherboard.vice.com/read/galaxy-note-7-explosion-environmental-impact-recycling) instead of upcycling them or at least extracting rare earth and other ressources of value.

According to IEEE (https://www.ieee.org/about/news/2013/22april_2013.html) the production of a Note 7 requires roughly 75 kg of ressources. 75 * 2.5 -> 187,500 metric tons waste.

Why not use the screens for other smartphones or remove the battery and sell it as a Samsung Galaxy Pi" or something like that so that people can still use it for powerful development, ...

At least recycle the materials instead of burning them.

One more reason to stay loyal to Apple or become loyal to Apple.

Sometimes the CPSC did. Sometimes people had to resort to class actions.

It might be over a longer timeline (or at least, it took longer for Apple to acknowledge), but plenty of Apple products have sent people to the hospital, caused multiple fires and evacuations on airliners, and burnt down at least one house (even the Note hasn't done that). In the US alone:

US Recalls:
  • 2001 - Apple recalls 570,000 adapters with fire hazard sold 1998-2000.
  • 2004 - Apple recalls 28,000 laptop batteries with internal short.
  • 2005 - Apple recalls 128,000 laptop batteries with internal short.
  • 2006 - Apple recalls 1.1 million (1.8M worldwide) battery packs with fire hazard, injuries, property damage.
(That last recall involved as many batteries in the US, as Samsung Note 7 phones sold there.)

US Class Action Settlements:
  • 2008 - 2.3 million adapters w/fire hazard sold since 2001, took two years to settle.
  • 2011 - 10 million power connectors, fire hazard since 2006, took two years to settle.
Some people say, oh well these things happened over a longer time. That's almost worse. Remind me to steal ten bucks from you every week over ten years, because you don't think that counts the same as robbing you of the same amount over a month.

Samsung had a problem they couldn't figure out and stopped sales within weeks. Apple has had KNOWN problems for a decade at a time, and yet continued to sell the faulty products because it was cheaper to just pay for damages / replacements when victims came in, and let their PR team handle the fallout.

It doesn't matter how long it takes; the net effect on customers is the same in the end.

Why do the Samsung users come to an Apple themed website?!...
This may come as a shock to you, but some people buy and use products from Apple and other companies... including Samsung. I'm one of those people. Funny thing, I'd be willing to bet there are more people like me than the all-in Apple fan.

I mean seriously, would you prefer a site full of sycophants raving to near unconsciousness due to schadenfreude overload?

According to a report by The New York Times, Samsung still doesn't know exactly why Note 7 smartphones have been catching fire. The company was apparently unable to replicate the problem at their labs and have so far been unable to identify the exact cause of the issue.

How is this even possible? Phones explode and catch fire and they are not even having a clue, this is unbelievable, especially for a company of this size and reputation. As an iPhone user this does not make me happy, because Apple might consider not pushing that hard anymore for future innovation as Samsung seems to have killed itself (at least for the smartphone market). All in all, a sad story.
Lol if you think Samsungs mobile devision is dead, you don't understand the issue one bit.

No Samsung products ever. You couldn't give me one of their phones.

What if you found out your non Samsung phone had lots of Samsung components ?

I'm all for strict stances And loyalty , though these days it's a murky endeavour .

Thank you for this!

Ah. Bless them. Trying to win people back. They were very very lucky. No-one died during this fiasco but a number of inhales of smoke and you're in trouble, especially if your asleep.

I know, let's give them $100, that'll make up for it.

Well I guess they were lucky unlike Apple who's faulty devices have cost lives.
I don't think the relatives of those people would stay loyal to Apple!

And that is ONLY the cases in America, alas this post will be totally ignored by the raging Samsung hatred of an Apple fan. Some would totally forgive Apple if one of their devices caused the death of their entire family.
