Hahahahaha

Let layout the facts here since every fangirl seems to have issue with it.

Apple

Revenue $ 108.249 billion
Net income $ 25.922 billion
Total assets $ 116.371 billion
Total equity $ 76.615 billion

Samsung

Revenue $ 247.5 billion
Net income $ 18.3 billion
Total assets $ 384.3 billion
Total equity $ 224.7 billion

Fun Fact: Apple would need about 2.5 Trillion Dollars to purchase them.

Samsung is far bigger and doing far better than Apple.

Samsung also sells, home appliances (broad category), tvs, music players, phones, and high end business equipment(broad category)...along with phones and tablets

Apple sells Phones, Computers, music players, a $99 settop box, tablet, a handful of cheap software titles.

So selling fewer products with higher margins Apple is already that close in total size? Samsung has to be a jack of all trades to be this big Apple clearly has fewer trades, but the ones it is in they are Masters, And save computers are killing the competition. Only in the phone dept are the competition (copying Apple) and catching up.

I owned every iPhone, iPad2/3, Apple TV 3, MacBook
I owned Samsung TVs(DLP/LCD/LED) since 2003.

Both are great companies in their regard.
Apple redefined the smartphone market.
Samsung redefined the consumer electronics/appliance market. They are the first ones to introduce Internet@TV, which became Smart TV and now Smart Hub. Sony/Panasonic are not able recover for being lazy.

Having said that there are patent agreements everyday. Most of these patents are paid $1 per piece. There is no point in fighting for such a small amount.

I think there is a bigger underlying rivalry between these two companies. There was lot of talk about real Apple TV last year. Now it is back to same old Apple TV with additional content. Without Samsung, Apple cannot build real TVs. There is no work around in this world. Probably Samsung killed Apple's dreams of getting into every ones living rooms.

I agree, I did say it's trivial and that the patent system is wrong.

Yeah, at least the application procedure should be stricter to make sure that a patent actually qualifies by the rules. ie that it's new, useful and non-obvious.

How is it stupid? Thank them for having faster-than-home data connection. I don't see you inventing such technology.

Is everyone living out in the sticks these days? LTE will never be faster than my home data connection--never.

There is no way they will drop the iPhone5 from the suit even if they are sure they're going to lose. It's a stupid patent war in which both sides will add devices mindlessly.

I just meant legally it's an option... I'm with you on the opinion that they won't drop it no matter what.

Yeah, at least the application procedure should be stricter to make sure that a patent actually qualifies by the rules. ie that it's new, useful and non-obvious.

I would tend to agree but there are plenty of fine-lines that would make this extremely difficult.

Something that is seemingly obvious to you and I today, might not have been so even 5 years ago. Do you think it would seem obvious to those before touchscreen smartphones existed to have pinch-to-zoom, double-tap-to zoom? Maybe, maybe not. The point is how do you characterize something as "non-obvious"?

Also, there aren't many "new" features being added to ANY phone these days, and even that is subjective. Take LTE for instance. It certainly isn't a "new" feature - many see Apple as playing catch up by adding this to the iP5. But how many smartphones on the market integrate voice AND data on a single chip? How about the touchscreen - obviously not a new feature. But how many touchscreens include the sensors in the pixels allowing for a thinner overall design and truer colors, all while increasing efficiency?

The patent system is far from perfect, but there isn't some magical, easy-fix. These lawsuits have been going on for years and consumers haven't suffered at all. Sure nowadays the media has taken some of these suits and given them more prominence, but in reality every company does it, they've been doing it even before iPhones and iPads and will continue to do it. And we'll all continue to have the choice between Android, iOS and WP8 and the various handset makers that utilize each of these OSes.

Samsung's Market Cap is only about $17B-$18B (depending on how bad the US $ is doing)... and Apple has plenty of cash lying around... just buy these bastards and put an end to all of the drama....

Wrong. Samsung's current market cap is in excess of $150 billion, still far short of Apple's but nonetheless far greater than your incorrect figures. Their market cap fell about $12 billion with the $1B judgement.

I would tend to agree but there are plenty of fine-lines that would make this extremely difficult.

I agree, and I guess the way it works now is that a patents validity is tested in court when a company sues another one.

You know how i see all this

Apple make lawsuit vs Samsung and after some time they win and Samsung should pay to Apple 1bilion...$$$

Now Samsung will make lawsuit vs Apple and they will win and ruling will be that 1bilion that they suppose to pay will be gone if they call off there lawsuit vs Apple....

In scene behind consumer who love Apple products will continue to buy apple and trash talk about Android and Samsung

And consumer who love Android and Samsung will continue to buy android phones from Samsung and trash talk about Apple

At end of this lawsuit GAME SCORE WILL BE DRAW

Is everyone living out in the sticks these days? LTE will never be faster than my home data connection--never.

It's not faster than what I COULD have at my home, but it is faster than what I choose to pay for at my home based on the speed tests I've seen for Verizon LTE. 15-20 down, and at home I get 8-9 down.

Maybe he was talking about just Samsung Mobile, not the entirety of Samsung? I'm not sure about the numbers for that.

Although that's largely not worth debating... Why would Apple want to initiate a hostile takeover of Samsung Mobile anyway? Samsung wouldn't have that division bought out without a huge price inflation or a takeover, and there really is no benefit to Apple IMO.

They are trying REALLY hard. All over facebook advertising , releasing "it doesn't take a genius ad. Their commercials making fun of people waiting in line for iphone. If they would just advertise like anyone else they may actually do good.

Yes, every ad is an attack! Its like they're trying out the "get a mac" approach, but their ads are TERRIBLE.

It doesn't matter how many LTE patents Apple owns (Samsung has twice as many), but if Samsung owns the key ones and Apple infringes those patents, then they can be in trouble.

Of course it matters. LTE is an industry standard and is considered FRAND. If they require licensing of Samsung's patents, Samsung has to let them license it. Nothing will come of this other than blowing around a lot of hot air.

Yup. Unfortunately, the masses will never take that as proof. There will always be the accusations of "home-country bias". What it really comes down to is the emotional tie many of us have with our devices (needlessly IMO).

I come here to read about Mac News and sharpen my critical thinking skills because I know there will be frothing "fandroids" and I'll be labeled an "iSheep". Someone characterized the Samsung/Apple feud as one between angry presidential candidates, another area where the masses use their emotions to drive their decisions and thinking needlessly.

How Samsung, a company who sells the biggest number of smartphones and has the biggest share in the market, is catching up with Apple? A company that introduced a lot of things before Apple (4G LTE, big screens, NFC). They are catching up in terms of what?

Please see the most recent win in the APPLE vs SAMSUNG lawsuit... Samsung sold shi**y phones with Shi**y numbers before copying the design of the iPhone. So catching up in terms of $$$$ and marketshare in the smartphone industry. OHHHH yay samsung sold 20million phones last year. Apple just sold 10-30% of that in a weekend based on estimates that are out.

Oh i see yes samsung did have those techs in the phones before Apple, yet their phones still are laggy POS's... How can you have that much more Horsepower, but still be a slower phone in realworld use? Oh yeh bloated OS. We "iToy" users may have waited longer for downloads, and may not be ID theft cakewalks(NFC). But our phones don't waste our time in real life tasks.

Keep trying though... Samsung hasn't won yet and neither has your argument.

Don't be ridiculous.

Samsung copied the idea of placing products on tables?

And I'm not sure if you've noticed but Samsung's main colour IS blue. Are you telling me you've never seen any shop assistants wearing blue except Apple "Geniuses"?

I hope you're being sarcastic. They copied the overall design and feel of the store. Most stores have shelves, while Apple chose tables to display the products. Everything done at the store is mostly different than others. Microsoft and Samsung copied the stores because the design works well.

Wow, someone's angry.

You didn't understand that, then?

yes, I did. It seems you don't understand how much a billion dollars mean. An extra billion is a lot of money to move many things around and have it their own and they have wanted to redistribute manufacturing since they don't want to depend on samsung or their future prices.

I think you've mistaken this site as SamsungRumors.com

I can understand the error however, as they too have a similar layout to MacRumors.

I wonder why...

Drop the sarcasm, maybe it'll help you understand that I do not care for Samsung rumors but rather point out the stupidity in some posters here, not Apple.

Oh duh! I remember now my brother-in-law being extremely upset his HTC Evo 4G was delayed because of it....

Ahh well, still think HTC > Samsung. :p

Same, I bought the One X over the S3
