We can all agree that Samsung has poor quality control and a worse track record than Apple about dealing with issues.

1) Explosiongate is an awesome name
2) The last Note problem where accidentally inserting the stylus backwards broke the device had a callous response from their company "Read the manual". They didn't fix it or have any replacement programs
3) They left hundreds of millions of phones un-updated exposing people to security holes
4) Google "Samsung Galaxy problems" and you'll see every line had qc issues. They were FORCED to deal with this quickly because their desire to rush a phone out the door to beat Apple could have killed people

You're holding it wrong.

Seems like a relatively short list compared to some of Apple's faults over the year including, but not limited to "holding the phone wrong," this new "touch disease", MBP screen repair, etc. Samsung reacted quickly, possibly influenced by the iPhone announcement next week, I'm sure. Apple acts like a stubborn child until they're forced to fix an issue.

There's a big difference between some of the examples you cited and having yourself maimed by a li-ion battery fire or worse. The latter, aside from hurting people, could incur huge injury related lawsuits. So some acknowledgment of this issue seems prudent.

Making fun of a rival company's products is sometimes funny. Making fun of their customers is just zero class.
Apple is the master at making fun of a rivals customers and products. They've hammered away at Microsoft off and on for decades.

Zero class indeed... Especially poor coming from an elitist narcissistic company like Apple.

Now based on a defective battery from a supplier, Samsung gets hit with a manufacturers nightmare. Despite their immediate response to do the right thing, some low class Apple Devotees pounce, acting like idiots. That's very revealing of their character ...

Two pages ago it was unconfirmed that Samsung would replace all phones. Now it's confirmed that they will replace 2.5 million Galaxy Note 7's, due to their propensity to explode with normal use.

This is an unprecedented failure in the smartphone industry. Quite possibly any high value industry.
The embellishments and blatant attempt on your part to attack Samsung is quite obvious. You've done an impressive job of avoiding any truth...

What are YOU talking about? Apple had two lawsuits with Samsung over iPhone patents, and after all the appeals they received $290m from Samsung for the first suit and $119m in the second. The payout from the first trial was reduced, but it certainly was not reversed.

As for the LG phone, LG didn't go to court because they had no case. It was lanched only a short time before the iPhone (which had been in development for years) was announced, so there was no posibility that Apple could have copied it's design. Also during the Samsung case, prototype iPhones were shown whitch were developed more than a year before the LG phone had been seen publically.

Good news first. Apple's first lawsuit is going to get heard by the SCOTUS next month -- and most agree that Apple's ridiculous ruling would be reversed.

Even better news! Apple's second lawsuit involving autocorrect, datalink, and other utilities patents that were invented by others, but somehow re-patented by Apple was reversed by the appeal court in totality. Apple now has to pay Samsung for starting a frivolous lawsuit and wasting Samsung and their attorney's time.

Why, didn't you also look at Samsung's evidence that demonstrated that they too were working on the same ear-type touch phone before the iPhone came out, but Judge Koh decided not to allow that in the court -- while it did for Apple -- as procedural ruling?

2.5 million devices recalled at $800 cost per = $1.8 billion hit to their bottom line. That basically wipes out 50% profit for this quarter. Ouch. Maybe that will teach Sammy a lesson not to use anything less than the top notch component suppliers.

Or how about Samsung stops rushing its products out the door, in order to greedily dominate sales and market share, and in order to "beat Apple to the store shelves".

Research, product testing, more testing, and QC, they all take time. But I suppose Samsung doesn't care about that stuff, Sammy only cares about rushing its products to market in order to dominate market share.

he could've pointed out that Apple even sold their official power adapters in China for half price for a while, to help stop all the reports of "exploding" iPhones from people using third party chargers.
Yeah what's the matter with Apple, allowing people to use other power adapters and cables. Should make phone only work with official Apple accessories.

I understand that this is traumatizing for you. I promise, Samsung will make it. They will be okay. Samsung needs you to stay strong, and stay calm. You are one of their finest and bravest warriors- keep on fighting the good fight! Your flexibility to bend any which way to defend Samsung and attack your lifelong archrival Crapple will pay off.

Out of all keyboard warriors, you reign supreme.

Doesn't mean he is right
Then refute it, and elaborate on why you think John Gruber is wrong. I find he has a knack for identifying BS in an article and calling out hypocrisy for what it is.

I have already explain why I felt his article made sense. Samsung has screwed up the launch of their Note 7 phone. By the time they take the necessary corrective measures, the iPhone 7 will have been announced, perhaps launched even and whatever momentum Samsung hoped to capitalise by being first will have evaporated.

What more the fact that this was supposed to be Apple's year off.

The Samsung fan club knows this. They know they have just lost whatever upper ground they may have had in crowing about the superiority of the Note 7 here, so they are desperately clinging on to anything they can find to use as a rebuttal.

The only ammo available - Samsung's reported alacrity in announcing a recall. Which, even as we speak, is drawing criticism in the US for supposedly bypassing the proper channels.

Face it. These Apple trolls / Samsung fanboys came in picking a fight, expecting easy pickings. But as the saying goes - Man proposes, God disposes. They have lost.

All that's left is for them to shut up and go crawling back where they came from.

Cue the Samsung haters in 3...2...1...

(for the record, I believe that some form of this issue has been seen by every major manufacturer - and isn't this part of the reason for the change in rules regarding transporting Li-Ion batteries?)
Can you see racing for a flight and security won't let you take your Galaxy Note 7 on the flight. You either go home or leave your phone at security.

Not a big fan of Samsung but I actually give them mad props for this. I can't help but wonder if Apple would've simply waited and see how things panned out if they were in a similar situation.
No. Any company in this situation would respond pretty much the same way with an immediate recall. There is no other option.

I have no idea why so many are praising them for this when a recall is inevitable.

It's like praising someone for taking a piss. Got to be done.

(sorry for the piss poor analogy!)

Exactly. There are consumer safety laws here in the US. I'm pretty sure exploding cell phones would be required, BY LAW, to be recalled. Just go to cpsc.gov and see recent recalls. Even things with minor risk of choking hazards for kids need to be recalled. Imagine a little kid borrowing a parent's phone and it lighting up like the 4th of July... or a house burning down due to an unattended charging phone at night.

Samsung is being criticized for not using CSPC for the recall. Allegedly, some devices were still on sale, at smaller locations, after the recall.
I commend Samsung for issuing a recall, but they should follow thru, and file with the CSPC - if they haven't already.

People charge their phones overnight while they sleep. Many people do not have smoke detectors in their house. The combination could be deadly. Samsung definitely need to get out ahead on this issue and do a recall even if they think this is only a 1 phone out of 100,000 problem.

I agree with you, but there is no excuse to NOT have working smoke detectors in a dwelling. No excuse.

Apple is the 800 lb Gorilla in the room, they posture, pontificate and only act to fix an issue after they've stalled as long as possible.
