can anyone explain to me how samsung makes chips for apple, yet both their product lines are in direct competition? ive always wondered about that.

im sure theres alot of corporate mumbo jumbo involved, but any ideas anyone?

Agreed - this Samsung executive's statement sounds phony. My read is that Samsung figured out that they make more profit selling parts for iPad2 to Apple than producing their own tablet in larger volume.

Helping kids with learning disabilities? Yeah, that was Steve Job's goal.

Man - you have it BAD!

Tony

you have it bad, cause you cant even answer my question. lol

it wasn't jobs goal, but his company provided the quality tools to help someone who had the vision to help others.

Really??? LOL I'm glad your back at the drawing table again, maybe they should just sell DIY kits that start at $99 at least the geeks will have fun with that:D

if the 7" tablet cost them $900 I assume the 10" will be ummmmmmmm $1500 dollars Lol what a joke to even design or consider to sell..... FIRE THE MANAGEMENT TEAM AND CEO....

If apple sold a 7" tablet it would start at $299 at least lol.....Samsung needs to just focus on their strengths and improve upon them... Tablets or computers in general are a weak point for the company.

Err, are you sure?
Their 3.5 inch tablet starts at $230 list (ipod touch).

Wow, Steve must feel very good about the iPad. Do you remember those post from last year about people complaining how bad the iPad is? It's so funny to read these comments again. :p

that was awesome -- i was rolling on the floor laughing....

I think Samsung is a bit "flummoxed" regarding their 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab. Awkward name, cheap feel, and now overpriced too. Looks like sales might go as "smooth" as the original Galaxy Tab. Don't look for many retailers to want to take on too much stock of this Honeycomb tablet.

Samsung better look at outdoing Motorola Xoom before they even worry about the iPad -- they seem to be in the worst position in the tablet market. Xoom has them beat on price, feel and features from what I have read.

Lets see a 3.5" iPad (called iPod Touch) sells for $229/$299/$399 (8/32/64) and there is no 3G option. I think your $299 price point might be a little low. Starting at $399 might be a little more realistic.

Dude I know all tech companies a greedy, but at least they make a product that's usable to the masses.... What evidence do you have that the xoom or galaxy tab is helping kids with learning disabilities?? or is widely used by doctors???

Give it up man, its clear that apple has no competition... your looking at it from a cave mind mindset.

You act like that makes you happy. You don't want apple to have competition?

I like apple too but why do fanboys want every other tech company to fail?

Wait...I'm a little confused. Is the HP Slate something that caused other companies fear, or is it something that got canceled? I thought you were saying it was a great product, but now you're mentioning the JooJoo at the same time so I'm not so sure that's what you meant.

Maybe I misread.. weren't you saying how often happens that a product that is announced is not being released?

May not have been his goal, but it certainly was one of the results of the iPad. I know lots of teachers who use iPads, and two girlfriends of my wifey use them for their kids with mental handicaps where they work! Hey, may not have been his goal but it did happen, and thats pretty cool, no??? Not saying it is making kids better, but gives them something at least!

:)

Like most major conglom's each individual sector is ran by its own management. Samsung does everything from building Warships, Skyscrapers, almost all of Apples Screens and Memory, Hard Drives, Car engines and parts, etc.

Chill out...

I would like for others to innovate and produce something that apple has not. That would be competition. Copying what apple has invented feels cheap and uneasy, and people know this.

Apple is a copier. From their first PC (from IBM), to tablets (from UMPC's and the like), to pretty much everything. You can argue that they make it better, but that's opinion. Being better is not sales based. If you think that, then you would have to say that Windows PC's are like 100 times better than Macs, because that's still the sales ratio. You can't pick and choose.

I like Apple products. Many of them could be better, but that goes for everyone. I hate their "politics" and fanbase, though, as evidenced by this thread.

Tony

It's partly specs. iOS is efficient enough that it works on low spec'd hardware. My point is that the target market has no idea about specs and doesn't care when making a purchasing decision.

You’re half right. For Apple, hardware specs, OS, and software are greater than the sum of the parts. I think we agree on this.

But the average consumer knows what numbers are, and they know that 512 is bigger than 128, and bigger is better, right? If this is how they’re marketed to, then it’s an internalized part of their mindset.

But the consumer often doesn’t understand two things. One, they often don’t even need the raw horsepower being sold to them. Two, they can have a car with the best engine in the world, but if the dash board and steering wheel are complicated to use and inefficient, then how are they going to take advantage of that engine.

So given no prior user experience, the consumer will opt in for bigger is better.

Are you aware that Samsung manufactures TVs, LCD panels, RAM, CPUs, digital cameras, refrigerators, washers etc.? Do you know that Samsung Galaxy S 2 is going to be thinner than iPhone 4 (9mm vs 9.3mm)?

It's going to be 0.3mm thinner and it only took them a year? Wow! Think it'll be out before iPhone 5?

It's funny to me how all of the companies making Android-based competitors (and those looking forward to them) talk about their products as if they exist in the marketplace. The iPad came out a year ago, as in, people were lining up and buying them and taking them home. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 here was going to be Samsung finally getting out a similar product after a year of nothing, and it and the Xoom were the only competing tablets that looked remotely close to release. Now iPad 2 will be in customers' hands next week and Samsung's saying they have to re-think? Talk about vapour. Wake me when people start comparing Apple to released products.

You need a job/hobby/girlfriend/boyfriend.

Apple made Apple I and Apple II years before the first IBM PC. IBM stated that there was no market for a such small computer, therefore not interested.

Wii succeeded because it had innovative control/sensor. This is a very important spec.

The control sensor means squat unless the software applications make good use of it to the benefit of the end user, but that was far from the only reason for the Wii's success. The ease of use that has made it appealing to an entirely new demographic (including many adults of all ages that are not traditional "gamers") has yet to be duplicated, even though Sony and MS have since added even more advanced sensor devices.

If you really believe that a piece of hardware is all it takes, suit yourself. I admit it certainly simplifies your life to only consider hardware specs when shopping for a product.

Maybe I misread.. weren't you saying how often happens that a product that is announced is not being released?

No, I was saying how often is there a product that causes other products to not be released.

So for this Samsung tablet, the JooJoo, or that HP Slate it's all because of 1 device: The iPad. That's what I'm counting.

I'm asking about the device that's making that happen. I don't recall other phones being canceled afer the iPhone 4 came out. I don't recall netbooks being canceled after the Macbook Air came out.

Basically, the iPad is the one example I can think of in recent memory.

Steve Jobs does not get to invent his own terminology. There are "engineering samples" and there is "shipping in volume". Here is one example from Engadget: Classmate PC now shipping "in volume". Do you really think they were talking about iPad-type volumes?

Where is the XOOM selling for $539.00?
