Thats not really a great comparison though is it.

Considering Samsung are also competing against LG, HTC, Sony and Nexus - 200 millions Galaxy S phones is quite an achievement.

I'm confused. How is Samsung competing with Apple and all Android OEMs, and Apple is competing with Samsung, but none of the other Android OEMs?

Not saying 200 million Galaxy S/Note devices isn't an achievement. But there's always some excuse when those who hail Galaxy sales as awesome are faced with Apple's iPhone numbers.

Gee, i wonder where Samsung got the Finger-print sensor idea from ?

If Samsung had come up this this, they would have done it before the iPhone 5s....

Its what i always said... and will continue to say, while Apple copy other manufactures too, Samsung needs to see what Apple does....

What has Samsung ever implemented in their phones that just "takes off" ?

That, to me, would be a big surprise.

Implemented in The "home button" as well....

Sounds like Daja vu

difference between Apple taking stuff and Shamesung taking stuff is...

Apple take something that was kind of mediocre and make the idea/invention awesome and extremely useful. Shamesung wait for Apple to do the hard work then copy, start working on some new specs for the Apple haters to get excited about, release a new phone with those specs while Apple is suing Shamesung to get that previous model off the market.

Wow, a gold version and a fingerprint scanner, I'm schocked.

By the way, did they throw 4K video recording just because it's technologically possible or people are really getting those displays now and I'm living under a rock? Last time I checked they were... a little expensive for a TV that lacks movies and shows for that resolution. Thanks.

Record everything in 4K, so eventually when 4K sets are a reasonable price, you are able to view all your memories in glorious 4K.

Or failing that, just use it as a cheap shot at Samsung.

Why is this on the Mac rumors site?

Because all ya annoyed asses are gonna be posting pro-Apple/anti-Samsung comments. And more y'all comment, more chance that somebody might accidentally click an ad and earn Arn a few monies.

I guess people won't be able to use those bulky cases on their future Shamesung devices anymore, no room to swipe the finger down all the way comfortably. Should have copied apple harder with the static placement.

Because if I want to buy an iPhone, I would go for the latest 5S.

If I want an Android phone, I could go for any of the flagship devices such as Galaxy S4, LG G2, HTC One, Nexus 5 etc etc

So Samsung is competing with other Android devices.

okay, so they too all our rumours and made it a real product - :D

then Apple releases the real stuff and then we get a galaxy copy -

phone looks the same, made it copper sand:confused:

just a few more and its gonna be a phablet soon S7:rolleyes:

So why can't Samsung COMBINE the Gear Fit and Gear (watch).....

That's what I'd like from Apple - not a phone in watch form or a health band....but a TRUE smartwatch that does the health stuff (innovatively) and has its own set of features.

I don't need to make calls from my wrist. I would love to securely pay for things from my wrist though.

All-in-all this seems a smaller update than the "S" updates Apple gets railed for....a "Samsung" like fingerprint sensor (in that it works about half the time and is better left un-used like a majority of Samsung's "innovative" features), marginally faster processor and more megapixels.

All about implementation my friends. Hopefully 2014 is the year we see some Android competition.....Samsung seems to have left the door open. I'd love to see the HTCs, LGs and Motorolas of the world take advantage.

the gear does have all the fit stuff in it

i am not saying Apple came up with the idea but they took an idea and Samsung as usually waits around for someone else to do it first. why didnt they come up with an golden phone with a finger print sensor before? they wait and see what works on the market and implement it themselves just like Sonys water resistent feature

So with your reasoning, Apple will be wrong when they will introduce the iWatch? You conveniently condemn Samsung for waiting with the implementation of the fingerprint sensor, yet applaud Apple for waiting with the iWatch and doing it right. I really can't stand this double standard on this site.

Not to mention that it looks that Samsung is on the right track in using the FP access, such as pay, secure area access, etc.

Will see if all that talk from Tim will result the iPhone 6 to have more than slightly better battery life and a better camera.

apple scan >>>> samsung scan.

seems like it is impossible to use the scan with one hand. lame!!!!

a 4k tv isn't that expensive these days, its just there isnt much content

Ball Dropped

Yeah, Samsung really dropped the ball on this one. Here's what I don't like:

1. Screen too big. I hate to actually SEE what I'm looking at. With the S5, now I am burdened with understanding it too.

2. Shares files without internet connection. One of the most annoying things about previous S* phones was the ability to share files with other devices via bluetooth. It looks like Samsung has continued this annoying feature with the new phones.

3. Google play. The insane array of apps available through google play is disorienting. I'm a consumer and I like decisions made for me by my phone manufacturer. Freedom of choice is really not my thing.

So we can only compare sales numbers for Android devices with each other, and iPhones are on their own?

How about those who are simply looking to buy a SMARTPHONE and aren't sure which way to go?

It's funny - with regards to sales numbers, when we want to make Android look good we say "Holy cow Android has 80% world marketshare"! But we're talking hundreds of devices versus 1 iPhone line and a smattering of WP8 devices.

When we want to talk up Samsung - "Good lord! Samsung sold twice as many smartphones as Apple did last year!" But we're talking dozens of product lines ranging from cheap to the Note line.

The minute anyone brings up "Apple has the best selling smartphone line in the world" and the pretty staggering number of iPhones sold (ONE LINE), its not a fair comparison.....

They big guys at Apple right now:

Guys,

any info on whether the stabilization is electronic (as in the GS4 / Note 3 / all iPhones) or optical (as in the G2 / One / Nokia 1020 / 92x etc.)?

techradar states: "And this is indeed the case. The Samsung Galaxy S5 comes equipped with a 16MP rear camera and 2MP front camera. It shoots 4K at 30fps and there's a whole host of image functionality new in the Galaxy S5. This includes video stabilisation - similar to the LG G2 - HDR and selective focus."

Does this possibly mean it does have the superior OIS and not just an electronic would-be stabilizer, probably not even working in 4K mode (as is the case on the Note3)?
