When I see a company using a competitor as the basis for comparison I always suspect that the competitor has the “gold standard“ product. I then investigate the competitor. In very rare cases these comparisons work when original company is a true underdog with a real differentiator. Even then, seldom. In this case not at all.
Which is why it works in the PC vs Mac ads (Apple was the underdog back then), but Apple stopped and never does any more comparison ads for iDevices. Samsung is hardly an underdog in the Android world. In fact they’re the top dog. The likes of Oppo and Xiaomi, the Android “underdogs,” drew success by comparing their products to Samsung, but it doesn’t work when Samsung, the top dog, is doing it.

These commercials are dumb and make me cringe for some reason. I've owned Samsungs like the S5, S7, Note 5 and despite the specs on the Note 9, I'm not interested in a phone that won't go past two years (maybe 3) of heavily delayed software updates. Android 9 has been out in beta for months and still they choose to ship this with 8.1 Oreo. Dumb
Samsung shipped many 2018 devices with Nougat. This is hardly a surprise. The Samsung fans will tell you that Android version doesn’t matter as their Samsung experience is superior.

They are budget devices and I think it’s not too bad to be on nougat. It’s at least modern. I think some of the real bargain basement android devices are probably shipping with lollipop and will never be updated. However you get what you pay for.

I wonder if the new Note has any 'explosive' surprises in store this time. Funny ads but the Samsung customers seem surprisingly well informed - MicroSD card / Split Screen etc. You'd have thought, if they were that well informed, they may have chosen the appropriate product for them before they bought their iPhone. /s

Wait... I thought the phone that generates the most profit is what matters.

I'm so confused... :p
The same can be said if you choose a Samsung over something like Xiaomi. Samsung has the largest margin and profit amongst all Android OEMs. So it is hilarious and ironic when a Samsung fan criticize an Apple fan.

But apparently they aren’t making a lot of money from all those phones they are selling.

Okay but... who really gives a crap? Don’t use 32 if you don’t want to. How is having a higher limit available a negative?
Same argument applies to people who don't want a split screen. Nobody is forced to use it.

Difference is Apple knows what hardware it’s going into. If Snapdragon made a phone with optimized version of android it wouldn’t need these extra cooling features and other nonesense. Apple knows the entire line, so the chip is perfect for what it eventually is used in.

So you are saying that a processor in an Apple phone never gets throttled no matter how demanding a game for instance is?

This ad is a standard upward attack strategy used by anybody who has studied marketing or has earned an MBA.

Pepsi has used this strategy against Coke countless times.

Once again, Marketing 101.

Well, even if that is the case, it is not a very good strategy. Also, I think it is called a frontal attack offense, but I am no marketing expert. I know the social and scientific reasons that make negative attack ads good in theory, but in practice they often result in just short term market gains. You mention Pepsi using this against Coke, yet if you look at Pepsi vs Coke when it comes to cola (which is where Pepsi often attacked Coke) Coke is still winning.

Look at the way these ads are being shared on Reddit, MacRumors, and 9to5Mac.

YouTube is only the channel. The above mentioned sites are the vehicles. These ads are very effective given the low production and media buy costs.
So far, they haven’t really improved their phone sales. We shall see if this one does help at all. This is purely anecdotal, but about 80% of the people I know who have been die hard Samsung fans have been switching over to iPhones this last year.

Well Verizon is already offering a buy one get one free, for a promotional email this morning.

Maybe your phone is priced too high if to sell it on day one your also giving one away?
Let’s be honest here, all top tier smart phones are overpriced.

Good thing I don’t care about any of that. Be right back, I’m gonna go to an Android site to complain about products I don’t use.

I can’t wait for this. I manage a team of 60 people using my iPad Pro and I’ll love to be able to do video calls with my regional team of 24 people. I think this is great for businesses.

Shame that you have to wait for this, other companies have been using Skype for a decade. :D

But I don't think it does. And I don't really think Samsung does know iPhone users. The ones who use iPhone are the ones who have been doing for years and not likely to change, regardless what kind of adverts Samsung pulls. I really think there is something wrong with Samsung's marketing dpt. Apple is not even a direct competitor with Samsung if you think about it. Samsung does have more to worry about Chinese Android smartphone makers who have been doing incredibly well recently. They are the ones Samy should be worried about. iPhone users will just continue using iPhones with a few exceptions which is, sometime people and myself included like to try other devices and Galaxy phones have been my best alternative to iPhone but that is not because of their silly adds. If anything, these adds will just put me off and make me not want to buy a Galaxy or Note and I would never move to Samsung's ecosystem permanently. But like I said, I like to every now and then use Android device.

Seriously man, is it not embarrassing instead of advertising new cool things about your new product, you go and compare it with almost a year old device?

One possibility is that there really isn’t anything Samsung can do about the other Android competitors. Everyone is running the same underlying OS. The only thing Samsung has to differentiate their products is their software skin (which is controversial) and their hardware components (which is easily copied). In short, Samsung is in danger of being commoditised by cheaper alternatives (which is ironic in that this was the very same explanation given for why Apple had to offer cheaper iPhones back in 2013).

The last thing you want is to draw attention to some obscure brand like OnePlus or Xiaomi, much less the realisation that a similar Android experience can be had for much cheaper. Apple’s the one to beat. Everyone knows about the iPhone. Samsung wants the very customers who are willing to shell out $1000 for a smartphone because that’s where the money is.

I think I get why Samsung is making these videos. I just don’t think it’s a very successful one.

I think they want to be seen as a premium brand even if they do sell budget phones. So I think that’s why they go after Apple.

Yeah, Apple is so intent on keeping Intel happy that they just created a whole new Design Center DEDICATED TO PITCHING INTEL'S CPUs OUT THE DOOR...

So one day they'll drop intel and stop crippling their modems, but that doesn't help users' download speeds today does it?

But why does Samsung not selling all that well?

Always a step behind apple because it use android and still a high price. And huawei is as good or better than samsung for better price. So its stupid to go samsung nowdays. If you got money most go apple if dont want spend most go huawei

The thing with moves like this is that they are a process. Like flash or FireWire or Thunderbolt or dropping the headphone jack or including only usb c ports in the MacBook. Sometimes, it pays off in the end and sometimes it doesn’t.

I see it as short term pain for long term gain.

Time will tell. I am willing to put up with any disadvantages in the short run, but clearly, not everyone will be as accommodating.

Please show me where can most people get such high and consistent download/upload speeds that Intel modem becomes a culprit? Average speed is much lower than what it can handle in real world conditions.

That's my iPhone X with Intel modem. Is that not enough?

Today even better.

Huwawei make high end devices now.

I think the problem is not many people are buying high end android devices. Apple can charge whatever they want because they have no competition. If you want iOS you have to buy from Apple. Android you can find on loads of devices. Expensive and cheap so there is lots of competition and if you fail to compete by making premium products like LG and HTC did the next best strategy is to try and provide something which is almost as good but for a lot less. After that it just becomes a race to the bottom. Consumers are going to try and get as much bang for their buck and have a lot more choice with android. It’s the same with windows computers.

Also I think in China most people would rather buy a Chinese made device than one made by another Asian company. Remember for years Japan and Korea were places the west used as cheap labour. But then they started getting better at making their own electronics. Now they make some of the best electrical components in the world. The same happened in China, but more recently they have also stepped up and are making their own electronics, devices etc. I think many Chinese customers would rather play a role in accelerating this industry rather than buying from another Asian country.

LMFAO! These are hilarious, my god Apple is getting ROASTED with these. I can't believe there are people (in this thread especially) that can't see the humour in these and just get all bitter about it.
How is fun disinformation and FUD? Saying that you newer device is faster, while is even slower? Why picking a single feature and have fun of it while there are a lot of iOS features that Android can only dream of?
You as always are attack Apple in every thread, never get why people want to lost their time this way.

It’s horses for courses. There are things you can do on iOS that can’t be done on android and vice versa.

These last two ads were a bit pointless but I don’t think there was any disinformation in the previous adds. It’s true the iPhone doesn’t have a headphone jack and can’t use a micro SD card. Doesn’t mean I’ll be switching away from the iPhone but I don’t mind the adds.

Read the article. The statistics are all based on actual real world usage.

If you argument is that Apple is still "fast enough" then please show me when Apple's marginally faster processor has an impact on real world usage, especially since iPhones can't even multi-task.

There was time when i was compiling my own apps, kernel and what not, but time comes when you just want everything to work and forget that it needs managing.

And my speed test score is imaginary? Not real? Can't even multi task? Now that's a weak straw man even for you.

I dunno, I kinda like to watch them. I’m just wondering why Samsung is throwing away so much money on videos that seem to be only good for making people on Apple forums laugh and discuss the two brands. What’s their ROI on that..? ;)

These marketing ads doesn't help their dwindling note sales. Maybe it's time to chane their strategy.
