Tha mac VS pc campaign lasted from 2006 to 2009. 1 year in it hadn't done much to Apple's lackluster sales.

Sure... I guess it takes time for an ad campaign to take effect.

Don't forget though... Mac sales were ALWAYS behind PC sales. Like very behind.

The ads helped, sure. But still to this day the Mac has single-digit market share against the Windows juggernaut.

But in this example... Samsung is the #1 smartphone OEM and has been for a long time. It just seems a little odd to so obviously target the #2 when you're the #1

And the truth is... it's not Apple that Samsung needs to worry about.

Yes... Samsung sells some very nice flagship phones that compete against the iPhone. But the bulk of Samsung's sales are mid-range to low-end phones. And it's OEMs like Huawei, Xaiomi and Oppo who are getting sales. And those phones run the same OS and apps as Samsung's phones.

It may take a bit of effort to convince someone to move from the iPhone to a Samsung Galaxy.

But it takes no effort to move from a Samsung Galaxy to a Huawei, Xaiomi or Oppo...

I wouldn't say Apple is the reason for Samsung's 10% drop in smartphone sales. It's those other guys.

And yet here we are... in a mock Apple Store... making fun of the iPhone for not having a stylus...

Well guess what Samsung... no one else has a stylus either... :p

It looks the same like any iphone (in terms of finish). Accept it or not, that does not change the truth.
No, it doesn’t! The iPhone 6,7, 8, X looks better and doesn’t look like it made out of plastic. I didn’t see the new Note in person, but I’m talking about the Galaxy 8/9 and the previous Notes. Especially, the Galaxy that I checked was def made out of plastic. The Samsung design leaves much to be desired. Especially, considering what they ask for their gadgets.

The galaxy 8/9 are made of aluminium and glass. The last time Samsung made a plastic flagship phone was in 2014.

This is funny. When I heard about FaceTime with up to 32 people at apple keynote, I was like “what am I gonna do with it?”.

Um, android phones have quite literally never crushed iPhones in benchmarks.

Anyone remember when android phones used to crush iPhone benchmarks? No one cared then lol it was all about performance and optimization. Now is
It's all the sites cling too. I suppose it adds to the herd mentality. All I know is in real world speed test the iPhone X loses to the S9 and Note 8.

For me it has always been about the ecosystem, software, integration... and security.

Android manufacturers miss these critical points, and Apple knows it. The hardware is really not the main event. But it’s nice to have the hardware also made by the company creating the rest of the ecosystem. Can’t beat that.

Failing sales as number 1? Lol

I always love when people post a graphic to "prove" their point only they chose a graphic that actually proves the opposite but they did not understand it enough to realize it.

Do you see the 2017 market share of Samsung at 22.9% versus the 2018% market share at 20.9%? That means they lost 2% of their market share.. Apple lost some too but only 0.3%

Did you notice the year over year number that shows -10%... Ya that means failing number. You can be number one simply by volume but still be failing when your competition is out performing you in percent gain/loss.

What these ads show is that Samsung has failed to understand that there is a global market that is shared by manufacturers. So to win you need to convince those that are not currently your customers to decided they want to switch to be your customer. When your ad is basically insulting the very market you need to be appealing to, you are wasting your time.

As a potential customer I have 0 incentive from these ads to switch to a company that just spent time insulting me instead of enticing me. The problem with the Galaxy 9 is there is 0 game changing features that would make me swap. That is why all they can do is try and point out what they feel is bad about the iPhone.

Is the Galaxy 9 a nice phone? no idea, have not seen one positive ad showing what is great about it.

I don't see the point of negative advertising for consumer product.
But since flagship smartphone is more of a status symbol than a consumer product, it might explain that.

These commercials are nonsensical and off-putting. I can't see this improving sales any.

It would also be smarter if they focused on Huawei, Xiaomi and Oppo. Those brands are eating into their marketshare more than anything. It's like Ford targeting Alfa Romeo buyers instead of Honda buyers.

Given their clout. They'd be smart to partner with Google. So that their phones receive instant OS releases and security updates directly from Google for at least 4 years on flagship models. Something to make them stand out from the pack.

PepsiCo now has 2-3x the revenue, net income, and number of employees compared to the Coca-Cola Company.

The power of an education. Try it someday.

No it doesn’t. They’re almost at par. And that is mostly thanks to Frito lay and other junk food department of PepsiCo. You’re comparing PepsiCo vs Coca Cola. Both of them sell a lot of brands and different drinks. Where Pepsi has the advantage of he junk food subsidiary. What we are comparing heee is just Pepsi vs coke. And coke is still boss.

You don’t even need the power of education for that. Just some google power. Try it someday.

Forget the content of the ad, the people in it all look a little bit ugly and retarded. Even if everything they said was true, I would still dislike them and the company they represent.
No, it paints the Apple Store clerk as an idiot. The customer is portrayed as knowledgeable. Did you actually watch the video?
What kind of knowledgeable person would ask an Apple Genius for help?
Only those who don’t know how to google.

Pretty funny considering the Note 9 still can't outperform the year old iPhone X. And yes, nobody wants a stylus for a phone. Samsung should focus more on their failing sales than Apple.

While I wouldn’t use a stylus either, many many people do. Samsung is a capitalist business; they wouldn’t make them if people weren’t buying them.

I don’t think android manufacturers miss it, however as they don’t design the software then all they can do is focus on the hardware.

People keep seeing this, but I’ve never seen one used or met anyone who had one. That and the fact that sales of the Note aren’t very good tell me otherwise.

You're the only one surprised here.
Nobody questioned the humor, only the accuracy and effectiveness of these ads.
I don’t understand how it’s inaccurate to say the iPhone doesn’t have a headphone jack, a micro SD card slot, and can’t run to apps at the same time or have a stylus. Whether you find any of those features useful is one thing but they are all true.

I'm no Apple fanboy but the stylus for a phone is impractical and dumb.
Impractical for most, sure. But dumb? Not really. There is a niche that this phone fills and people want. So, to say something is dumb (based on your personal opinion) is shortsighted.

Dumb would be continuing to make a phone over and over again that is losing you tons of cash YoY and expecting a different outcome. I’m looking at you Blackberry.

I actually think the ads are quite witty and horribly true. In that theyrce showing Apple customers who aren’t currently walled in to iOS and keen to get a balanced viewpoint. But. I fully agree with you re who they are targeting. As you say, the threat isn’t from Apple. It’s from the upcoming Chinese manufacturers like Huawei and OnePlus etc who are undercutting Samsung massively with equal quality and often more features. Yet providing as good experiences for often half the price.

If I had the money I’d get a Note 9 tomorrow for the stylus alone. But I don’t. Therefore I’d need to justify the massive comparative outlay over my current superfast Honor to confirm I would use the feature. And I couldn’t.

The Note 9 is overkill for most. It is THE flagship phone over anything out there. But at a cost. With a size and weight penalty is way overfeatured for what most people will really need on a daily basis.

Huawei could run a similar set of ads showing Samsung / Apple Store staff having to answer why their phones cost twice that over their true competition. Now that would put the cat amongst the pigeons!

It’s inaccurate to call the Galaxy “really powerful” when it benchmarks far behind last years iPhone. And when confronted with an actual use case for all this power, face-timing a lot of people simultaneously, it is dismissed as “why would I do that”. But this stuff, I don’t care about. I think the customers in these ads look really dumb, even dumber than the geniuses they are supposed to make fun of.
