It’s interesting to see the differences between Samsungs marketing and Apples. Samsung has become aggressive towards iOS as of late, and I think they’re focusing More on Apple it seems Over their own Galaxy line. But in the end, the user makes the decision of which platform they want between android or iOS, and iOS has a clear foothold for obvious reasons with stability, five years of support and security encryption. Those are elements the consumer wants in a smart phone and values the most.

Apples ads show the value of their product and what it can do while, Samsung is name calling, trying to tanish apples products because their own rely on gimmicks and features that are outdated on phones, yet people are too basic let go. I have never needed an SD card for any of my phones, and as far as the notch goes, it serves a purpose, hides al those cameras and hardware that makes face ID work. Marketing to the lowest common consumer.

Any time I used spit screen on a Galaxy note was useless. It’s a feature that you try to like and use but soon find it’s not great.

I would love to see a Video overlay option on the new 6.5

Having a YouTube video playing on top and let you move it around like you can the selfie video feed in a FaceTime chat
You can do picture in picture. To do picture in picture with YouTube you need to have a YouTube red/premium subscription.

No mention of Apple here.

Lack of SD slot is a real con though. Do iPhone users not like extra storage... or even the OPTION to have extra storage? LOL

TBF my Android phone doesn't have extra storage either (but does have dual SIM). Difference is it was so cheap to go to 256 GB my thinking was "why would I not", whereas when I briefly had a 256 GB iPhone 8 Plus my thinking was "ouch FFS... but spread over several years it's not so bad... maybe if I take lots of 4K video it will have been worth it..."

yup when you're not the lead dog the view never changes. samsung also makes inferior 4K tv's

Sales of the S9 must be very bad if they are pushing these this hard. Either way, I find the points they are making to be very dated. The notch is not an issue for anyone who owns the X, nor does it cut off any video. An SD slot? I've never used one in my life. I didn't even know people still did aside from photographers. The cloud is clearly the future. Split screen multitasking? I prefer swiping at the bottom on my X so that you get the whole app. The whole campaign feels extremely dated to me and I really don't know who they are appealing to. I guess the Samsung fans get off on this thinking it makes a difference to Apple users. Meanwhile, Apple laughs it off, focuses on their products/customers, and makes all of the money in the smartphone industry. Keep feeding the Google ad machine Samsung.

4+ years ago I would’ve agreed with you. Today, not so much.

SD cards in phones are becoming obsolete as “cloud storage” is increasingly becoming the norm. Just like with CDs- a physical form of media storage is now clunky/outdated.

Especially with minimum storage sizes increasing across the board in flagship phones. I don’t know anyone that owns a flagship phone today that uses an SD card anymore. It’s mostly a feature for tech savvy and/or power users IMO.

I’m not saying I don’t see the use of an SD card, but it’s not nearly as big of a “con” as it used to be.

With services such as iCloud, OneDrive, Google Drive, etc. there really isn’t as big of a need for SD cards these days. You may not like it, you may find it inferior to SD, but that’s the way tech is evolving.

EDIT: Since people keep quoting me, let me clarify:

I'm not saying that "SD cards are dumb", or that cloud storage is superior/perfect, or that Apple made the right decision by not including an SD slot, or that internal storage is going the way of the dinosaur.

I'm simply stating that with the amount of cloud storage options available today, SD cards aren't *AS* useful/important as they were years ago to most people. As a result, mocking Apple for not having an SD slot isn't as effective today as it used to be.

Yes, you'll still have power users who want to store hundreds of gigs of files. Yes, you'll still have people who have shoddy service and can't utilize cloud storage as reliably as others. Yes, they are still increasing the size of microSD cards. But none of that changes the fact that the majority of smartphone users simply don't use them as much these days.

I don’t think it’s cheap to buy more storage. The difference in price between the base model X and the 256 GB is £148. However I prefer internal storage to SD cards so I’d rather pay more for more internal storage which Apple have always given users the option to do.

However I can see why some would like the option to have a micro SD card slot.

Those reports about poor S9 sales must be true if these videos weren’t released at the time of the iPhone X launch...

Sales are just as bad as they suspect, evidence of all the promotions that the S9 has had since launch. I work for a retailer and that is the primary reason people to Samsung phones, because they are cheap. While most iphone users do not care about price, they know they get a quality phone. Not all but a higher percentage of iphone users buy it for the phone not the price or promotion.

If its all about market share, .. isn't it more attractive to win it from the HUGE PIE of EVERY OTHER ANDROID phone? from people that already like Android?

What does that tell you? Why don't they hit other android brands in their infinite weak spots too? or insted..

"What if you wanna fill the screen?". For those that don't know. You lose close to 20% from the top and the bottom of the video when you zoom-to-fill on the iPhone X but you only lose about 3-5% of the video on the side as a result of the notch.

Conclusion: Don't zoom-to-fill on the iPhone X.

Cool, but the point is something is still being lost.

There's a disclaimer in EVERY Samsung/Android commercial -

Screen images simulated

That's why I'm a lifelong Apple man. What you see is what you get.

Funny thing is they are actually advertising the iPhone, the Apple logo and the Apple Store. While not showing anything Samsung other the irritating Samsung music and irritating Samsung customers. Apple should be paying them for this (though not very much, not a very good ad).

As a long time Apple and iPhone user... IF I were to change to an android phone the first one I would cross off the list when deciding is anything Samsung has made. I’m sure that I’m not the only one!
Same!

I’d most likely go Google, Moto or LG. Hell I’d get a Sony or Nokia all before I buy Samsung.

I think it’s still a thing on android. However I am amazed that people are not using the cloud. I get that some don’t want to pay for it but at least back your photos up to google photos if you don’t want to pay.

Someone I know has a Samsung device which has stopped working and they have to send it away to be repaired. They are now worried that they will lose some important photos. I asked if the photos were either backed up to google photos or stored on an SD card. They had not been using google photos and the SD card was apparently full (must have been tiny) so they had taken it out of the phone. The phone won’t switch on or connect to a computer. Apparently this isn’t the first time this has happened and last time they lost the photos on their phone.

So I’m amazed that people aren’t using cloud storage. I always go for the highest capacity of iPhone available but I also pay for iCloud storage.

What's with the fascination of various Apple-related sites with what ads Samsung releases?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You aren’t the only one. However a lot of people still buy Samsung phones. More than any of the other OEMs so some people clearly like their devices.

Samsung wouldn't want to show their products in these ads. They're stepping on Apple in these negative ads.

Marketing 101.

I bought a Samsung tablet that only had 32GB and figured, no big problem, they always talk about how you can extend it with SD cards. Got a 128GB card. Then found out I could only use it as extra file storage....not just as extra space. So almost all of my apps had to fit in the 32GB. I think Facebook was the only app that could actually be moved to the SD card. Also android is supposed to support adoptable storage, which basically makes the SD card one with the internal memory. Yea, android supports it, but Samsung doesn't. I guess I could have rooted that tablet or whatever to get it to work, but I didn't buy it as a science project. It went back in the box and back to the store.

Sure you can set up the external card for storing videos, podcasts, and other media, but the tablet was still woefully restricted as I filled the internal memory up with apps in no time.

I can't believe how upset people get with this sort of stuff, have a sense of humour. When Apple was doing this to Windows back in the day with the nerd and the gen x'er, I bet a lot of you had no issue with it.

There was no negative tone to these commercials... just a little fun. They're bang on about split screen.. I use it all the time.
