Physical storage on phones is declining? 5 years ago Apple still sold phones with 8GB & 16 GB now we are talking about 512GB models. We will go past 1 TB before they start declining back. The cloud goes so far; try accessing your cloud when you have no signal, data, in a foreigh country with draconian roaming charges. It will be a long time before we dont need storage locally and there has to be a reason why SD cards are now available in 1 TB formats and bigger soon - it isn't because no one wants them.

The reason there are no 1TB SDcards is down to costs.
One can get four Samsung 256 GB 4k video compliant cards for the cost of one 512 GB card. Cheaper to swap out cards when full. Until enough people prefer the convenience of not swapping out, 512 GB cards will stay expensive. Once 512 drop in price, 1TB will be viable.

Let me rephrase that: external physical storage is declining. Again, I’m not referring to the internal storage on a phone. SD cards are being used by less and less people today.

Us power users will always want more features. An SD card would be useful, but all of a sudden we would have to worry about which files are on which drive, and an SD card is 10x slower than an SSD. Still, it would be nice to put videos and music on an external card. Multitasking may be nice on a large device, but two tiny half-screens are very limiting. On paper, it would be nice to have two pages of Safari open, but the experience would be limiting. Or would you watch youtube while editing an Excel sheet on such a small device? The notch isn't a big issue unless you're watching TV, but would you really watch TV in your palm? I think you can limit videos so that they don't extend to the edge of the phone.

iOS will never have as wide of a hardware selection as Android, choices are limited to what Apple makes. Samsung competes more with OnePlus and Huawei than with Apple. That said, Android isn't bad, you can get PIP, an SD card, a file manager, widgets and a lot more. Those who want these are already on Android, though.

Can they do a video where they ask the Apple rep when they can expect the next update on there phone ?

Oh wait it’s pretty much the same day as every other iPhone from the last 5 years

Where the s9 will be lucky to get 2 updates this year

Honestly I would have given this more value when updates meant more. There aren't that many super useful new features on smartphones these days, it's definitely a product that is in the mature stage especially software wise, and the past few years Apple updates have been so full of bugs half the time you're better off not actually updating many versions.

That being said if I go back to android it would be a Google phone that gets updates on the regular anyway.

I had a HTC Desire back in 2011 and the reason I went back to iPhone 4s was because some apps couldn’t be stored on the phone’s limited ROM.

I know capacity is much higher these days but is that still the case with Android these days?

You’d loose that bet next month since the Galaxy Note 9 will debut; not featuring a notch. I’ll take your lunch money ;)

Of course you meant the next Galaxy S models. I hope Samsung doesn’t feature the notch. It’ll either a) show customers that a dropped phone will have a damaged front facing camera or eventually convince the competition not to have a notch in 2019 models yet to be released. :)

Commercial 2:
You want an SD card in your phone since you don’t want pictures in the cloud?!

- is it because you don’t trust Androids privacy statement and practices, then why are you buying android??! Lol
- drop and stomp the hell out of the android users phone.
> oh you SD card is broken and all the pictures you have are orphaned on that card, no backups? Lol that’s why cloud exists silly rabbit!!
That’s my commercial.
iCloud is a measly 5GB. Unless you want to pay more money for storage, you still have to offload those pictures somewhere eventually. Having a removable SD card is so much more convenient, especially when traveling and there isn’t wifi. Thats what these devices are supposed to do, make our lives easier with convenience. Not make us spend more and more money again and again.

That is because Apple sells to iCrowd something at a price range which is to normal humans unjustifiable, yet Apple gets away with it. This is Beyond the understanding of Samsung which is trying to compete on a price vs performance rational grounds. While Apple wins its users heart not always on technical merit but by being a part of the exclusive Apple club. Make no mistakes Samsung too wants to be in that space where it sells less and makes more. I mean Samsung does every thing in its capacity from Building Ships to making semiconductors , hotel and Heavy electrical/mechanical equipment yet very soon Apple will be the worlds first Trillion dollar company. Half the GDP of India. This is why Samsung is obsessed with Apple like Revenues, it burns their hearts how Apple gets away with it when they manufacture every single semiconductor on the iPhone.

Awesome point, I have always thought this... it has to burn knowing someone is building a better product with all your parts. I just think apple better understands the fundamentals of a quality user experience while companies like samsung try to dazzle you with the spec sheets and an abundance of options.

Yup they didn't show the Galaxy 9, which they were talking about in the video. Thats just more free marketing for Apple, really what were they thinking. All in all they are still funny.

Watching Youtube video or a Movie along with texting your girl on whatsapp is a real situation in my view which a lot of youngsters i know like about Android.

I could not figure out why anyone would really want this option on a phone.. this makes sense.

I smell desperation in the air from Samsung. Especially with news that the S9 isn’t doing so well and the Note 9 doesn’t seem like it will fare much better.

Such is the fate of any who would dare term themselves an iPhone killer. Fight it. Run from it. Destiny comes for you all the same.

Nothing about Security and Privacy. Nothing about Profitability. Nothing about a Saleable Starting Design. Nothing Funny.

Yes indeed but if no one “needed or wanted” them, then no one would be trying to develop them, but as you know many are....and for their intended use still cheaper than Apple internal storage.

You are so right my friend, can you imagine having a phone with Samsung made parts in it.. the shame!!!!

I should clairify - I don’t care if they made the parts. It’s the experience I care about. Samsung should stick to hardware.

Samsung should focus on letting their products speak for themselves. Constantly comparing themselves to Apple is a sign of insecurity and weakness.
True! In general comparing your product to a potent competitor is a no-no in advertising. Especially when showing off features that are not really crucial.

All these commercials did was make me like Apple more. This is the thing companies like Samsung and Microsoft never seem to get. When you mock Apple while showing how "cool" they are you are really self defeating. Apple would never make a commercial based on the vibe and feel of a building dedicated to a competing product for example, and there's a good reason for that...

Oh boy, these are pathetic

And concerning multitasking: Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Functions gotta make sense. They're not supposed to exist so your spec list is longer.

never have i seen anyone use the multitasking feature on their phone. maybe kids in highschool does it during class where they can watch twitch and browse reddit at the same time but now that i am older and work in a bank, i dont see anyone use their phone besides for phone call and appointments

Regardless of people's opinion of the ads they have generated over 9 pages of discussions and drawn the attention of almost everybody on Macrumors. Which proves how well they work :D

It’s one thing to do it when you’re a tiny share of the market. That’s not Samsung. They sell more phones than anyone. They’re not the scrappy underdog.

Comparative advertising doesn’t work the way you suggested. Classic example of comparative advertising is Pepsi vs. Coca Cola (neither is hardly a “scrappy underdog”). The key element is that normally the less successful brand or one that has less prestige will make a claim about its superiority (Pepsi tastes better than Coke, PowerPC is faster than Intel processors, Mac just works better than PC and Samasung Galaxy has more features than iPhone). In some cases the claim has its merits and in some the claim is so subjective that no real conclusions can be drawn. Anyway, there is nothing wrong with comparative advertising. One can argue that in some cases it’s more informative and fact based than other forms of advertising.

Lighten up people. I thought they were pretty good at poking fun at Apple. Doesn’t mean I’m going to go from my iPhone X to an S9, but I can appreciate the humor.

Samsung is steel on target. The notch is a total design failure and if Apple doesn't abandon it, the 8 will be my last iPhone.

The postings and attention here doesn’t have anything to do with how well the ads work. How many people posting here decided to go with a Samsung phone instead of an iPhone based on the ads? Zero?
