"Apple introduced iPhone without fear of killing the iPod."

Eh. That iWhat?

I didn't say they didn't kill the iPod, I said they were not afraid to kill it. They introduced the iPhone in spite of its obvious effect on iPod sales, when iPod was huge and iPhone was nothing. So, why should they delay an improvement to iPhone (which is now huge) for fear of its effect on iPad (which is comparatively tiny)?

The bitterness doesn't even make any sense. Display innovation cannot be compared because Samsung makes displays and Apple doesn't.

In fact since Samsung makes many of Apple's displays, we should hope and want Samsung to push forward on display technology since those improvements will make it to Apple devices.
Look at the comments from Apple apologists on how this is "ridiculous", "ugly", "thick", "useless" that's the point here. When it will come to Apple in 10 years, it will be "revolutionary" as it's always been said.

Thanks for posting that link. It always amazes me how many can't understand the difference between the design and the manufacturing stages. I'm sure there are members in here that believe TSMC designs the architecture in the A Series. :apple:
Except Apple didn't change the design of Samsung's panels for the iPhone. Pixel arrangement, all the same as those used in Galaxy devices.
Apple created new software to improve performance and color accuracy of a Samsung AMOLED panel.

The panels used in the iPhone Xs Max are slightly larger, but have a slightly lower resolution.
Xs Max is 6.5" (2688 x 1242 @456 PPI ) vs 6.4" on the Note 9 (2960 x 1440 @515 PPI).
Apple did a fantastic job tuning the displays. I love the display on my Xs.

The iPad however is not that.. It's the new Pro TabPuter for most. You think that sits in the same class as the umpteenth iteration of the iPod?

It does not.

"With material so thin and so flexible, it can fold down from the size of <whatever the XS max size is now called> to the size of your Apple Watch screen...in a glance...with a thought."

Tim takes iPhone, looks at it, thinks about folding it and as he does, the screen folds up automatically as he places it on his wrist. The crowd goes wild.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I introduce the first hybrid iPhone and Apple Watch!"

I'd say that's pretty innovative. :D
And that would be a more innovative phone because the screen would fold and have an Apple logo on the back along with the Moon Space Spicy Red color.
Take that Samsung.

Samsung are a Korean (south) company. They are not Chinese or Taiwanese.
[doublepost=1541696557][/doublepost]
Because it’s not Apple. Of course when Apple do it in 5 years we will hear that it’s revolutionary and we will hear that Samsung rushed this out to beat Apple.

Exactly. Every high quality OLED panel on a smartphone is made by Samsung. They are the kings of display technology.

However let’s not let reality get in the way of a good story. OLED was so terrible until Apple charged in on their white horses and saved the day. If Samsung or anyone else happen to have a half decent display in their latest phones it’s because they copied Apple.
To be fair, Galaxy phones Display and not only, have terrible black crush. Apple's display seems to be the only one free of that issue.

The second link uses an S5 display as an example.

Xs Max

Note 9 (the reference pic is zoomed in a bit more than the Xs Max)

Same Red/Blue/Red diamond pixel arrangement with green sub pixels.
Red pixels are slightly smaller than the blue pixels in both displays.
Both have 45 degree diagonal symmetry on the pixel arrangement.

Again, the display is all Samsung. Development and Manufacturing. The only thing Apple did was calibrate it. I don't give Apple credit for the display just because they choose a different color temperature. Lol. The same way I don't give Joe Shmo at Best Buy credit for calibrating my TV. My Sony/Samsung/Panasonic TV doesn't all of a sudden become a Joe Shmo TV. Lol

What's your point? Apple introduced iPhone in spite of its effect on iPod sales. It is not plausible they would delay an improvement to iPhone to protect iPads. Particularly when the Pro iPads are 11" and 13", which would require 2 folds to fit in your pocket.

Lol, that’s not what they said AT ALL.
Nice try though...

IIRC, he said “of course I’ll get in trouble if I show you too much, so I’m going to leave it here”... a far cry from “this is being disguised... it’s actually MUCH more beautiful!”, lol.
We he actually said, we’ve disguised it and he said “there’s a device inside here and it’s stunning”

They were very clear that it was being disguised and that was not what it looked like. Stunning is not that different to beautiful.

My quote to him was about both screens having the same Pixel arrangement and not color calibration.

Apple literally just devoted iOS 12 to correcting UX failures that were created by rushing new features into the OS in time to ship new phones annually just for the sake of money. UX might be belatedly returning to near the top of their priority list, driven by consumer backlash, but it's impossible to argue that UX has been their number one priority throughout the Cook era.

No big software company has put out perfect software releases. Apple released what they thought were features that would improve the UX. Regardless, this doesn’t suggest at all that Apple’s #1 priority is to make money.

Apple have invested in LG so going forward they will probably work with LG on developing new display technology. However this is a recent investment.

Not if Apple's version is ugly and thick, but it probably won't be.

It a cool tech and maybe even a good device, but this will ultimately be a fad, like 3D cameras. Why would I pay $2000 for this device when I can buy a XS and an iPad Pro for $1700 and get two devices that work better anyway?
I love new tech, I just think this is a fad.

We he actually said, we’ve disguised it and he said “there’s a device inside here and it’s stunning”

They were very clear that it was being disguised and that was not what it looked like. Stunning is not that different to beautiful.

The inside was screen, the outside was screen. There was no disguising the thickness between those screens with a case. The thing is fat.

Also, there is no way they would introduce it to the world in a fat case, it it were slim.

And yes, a phone can be fat and still be stunning. It can't be fat, and still be beautiful.

Well yes, wait until the tech is ready and build on it. There is no reason to rush something first to the market. Taking an existing product or idea and making it better is still innovation, which is what Apple excels in. See the description from the dictionary below for reference.

"Innovation, for its part, can refer to something new or to a change made to an existing product, idea, or field. One might say that the first telephone was an invention, the first cellular telephone either an invention or an innovation, and the first smartphone an innovation."

Yup, innovate every year with 0.000005 thickness reduction... and claim its the fastest/ most innovative thing...

Converting this Phone to a Tablet is true innovation of how devices in future may be. Will it fly? No idea. But, atleast its the first step letting others start/ play catchup.

For Apple: innovation = marketing.

So according to you, anything fat cannot every be beautiful?

Ahh, well said.

Having the idea to make folding smartphones is not innovative; it's obvious. Innovation is needed to build the thing without unacceptable compromises in size, weight, battery life, and reliability.

Samsung demonstrated their grasp of the obvious, but they have not yet demonstrated the necessary innovation to benefit from it. That part was blacked out.

[doublepost=1541698557][/doublepost]

Apple brought multitouch to the masses without making their own displays. And Apple didn't always make their own processors either; now they make some pretty good ones.
So your phone converts to a tablet/ vice-versa.... that did not demonstrate the true innovation of this???

Sure, it is slightly fat (to all the body image negatives in the world), but, tech improves over time.
[doublepost=1541702697][/doublepost]
They used lighting in the video and on the stage to try to downplay the impact of how massive it was. You bought the disguise story?
Just like how Apple recently used a dark black background near the notch to portray that its bezel-less?

Ha
