so we will get to see what the new I phone will look like before Apple releases it

Note 7 fatal failure was reportedly due to the rush to the market before iPhone, now they’re rushing even more, good luck! Sammy must be really scared of IPhone X Plus.

A cursory glance at a calendar would have proven that untrue for anyone who cared to look, but rush to market gets more clicks. Even this article notes that the Note 8 was released around the same timeframe as the upcoming Note 9. So they're not rushing "even more". They aren't even rushing at all. ;)

No, because the Note passed the iPhone a few years ago.

The version that burned... a few years ago, yeah sure, it's a better rocket than the Iphone and walking with an incendiary device in your pocket sure is exciting.

Passed it in having ever lower sales, comforting in its exclusivity no doubt.

I feel like this could only hurt them. There are people that will buy only iPhones or only Samsungs, so those people you don't have to worry about, but the people on the fence will want to wait for both announcements, so they will hold off after Samsung presents their product, so it'll hurt their initial sales.

Sure Samsung f'd up massively but they recalled and ended sales. Meanwhile Apple have been releasing for years shody batches of products and try to ignore consumer complaints. When will the Note 6 debacle rest as it's a pretty boring joke.

It cost Samsung 10B dollars... And meant Samsung phones were advertise as incendiaries in airplanes for nearly a year. So it will be a damn joke, just like Samsung, for a very long time.

As for your nonsense about "shoddy products", and not listening, please document this plainly. Should be easy since you're all lips about it.

Step out of the sheep line and try something open where Apple doesn't decide what you can and can't do.

So, WTH are you doing here, you whole spiel spells troll and button pusher.

Samsung this morning sent out press invites for an Unpacked event that is set to take place on Thursday, August 9, where it is expected to unveil the next-generation Galaxy Note device, the Galaxy Note 9.

The media invitation Samsung sent out, which was shared by Business Insider, appears to feature the button of the S Pen of the Galaxy Note, the accessory that Samsung sells with its Galaxy Note devices.

Samsung typically hosts two major smartphone events per year because it launches the Galaxy Note line and the Galaxy S9 line at different times. The Galaxy S9, for example, launched in February, while the Galaxy Note 8, the predecessor to the rumored Note 9, came out last August.

Splitting its smartphone launch dates allows Samsung to better compete with Apple by unveiling new technology before and after iPhone launches.

The Galaxy Note 9 launch will come just a month ahead of when Apple is expected to unveil its 2018 iPhones, which are rumored to include a second-generation 5.8-inch OLED iPhone, a larger 6.5-inch OLED iPhone that can be thought of as a sort of "iPhone X Plus," and a 6.1-inch LCD iPhone that will be more affordably priced.

Samsung will then follow the 2018 iPhones with new Galaxy S10 devices in February of 2019, if it sticks to its typical smartphone release habits.

Like the Galaxy Note 8, the Galaxy Note 9 is likely to continue to offer an edge-to-edge AMOLED display with edge panel and S Pen support, along with dual cameras and a rear fingerprint sensor.

Rumors suggest the Galaxy Note 9 will not feature a notch, and that it could have slightly smaller top and bottom bezels than the Note 8, resulting in a 2mm smaller chassis. It is also expected to feature S Pen improvements, and while early rumors pointed towards an in-display fingerprint sensor, it's not believed Samsung is going to go this route.

It was Samsung's Galaxy Note line that was subject to intense scrutiny after 2016's Galaxy Note 7 was impacted by faulty batteries that caused fires and injuries to multiple people. Samsung eventually had to recall all Galaxy Note 7 devices, which were also banned by airlines.

Samsung decided to continue on with the Note line through 2017's Galaxy Note 8, which suffered from no major problems.

Damn thats a good looker. Match that Apple!

No big deal, it's rumored to be the same as the Note 8. Just like the S9 was the same as the S8. I don't see any of them outselling iPhone's anytime soon.

Yeah, because outselling the iPhone is the point for any consumer looking at this device. Smh

Meh. I stopped getting excited about these announcements. Bring on the foldable Galaxy phone. That is hopefully going to be the biggest design breakthrough we've had in years (from any phone maker).

LMAO ....

maybe in years ... but have you forgotten other smartphones like:

Nokia N90, N92, N82, N72, E90/E92 Communicator series?

The back is still ugly as hell.
What's ugly about the back? Most phone backs look similar so it just kinda of boggles my mind when people say the back is ugly :/

I hope Samsung loses badly in the phone business so that it goes back to its original refrigerator business.
Can be argued that Samsung is one of the first companies to start making phones...since 1988.

Maybe. My favorite Siri moment was when I asked "what is the divorce rate for coupes who got marries between 18 and 25"
Siri said... 43.
I check the screen, and it says: Calculator: 18+25=43 lol!!!

Interesting. I asked the same question and got a few websites listed with relevant information about divorce rates.

They have two release cycles roughly 6 months apart. If they released opposite Apple, one of those would be a release at the same time as Apple.;)

I'd consider moving the fall announcement. Why put yourself in the shadow of the iPhone announcement every year? No matter how spectacular the Samsung announcement (not that they've ever had such a thing), it'll always be quickly dropped for news of the new iPhone instead.

This makes no sense from a Samsung perspective... or any perspective for that matter. Their Note fans know the latest and greatest hits in Fall - Sammy gets a holiday bump on their priciest sku. The S Series fans know they get the improvements from the Note in the Spring - Sammy gets a sales bump during a traditionally slow time for phone sales. When the sales of one flagship begins to wane, they have their other flagship being anticipated.

The camera isn't off-centered, doesn't wobble and doesn't protrude.
Lol love this comment. I didn't want to come outright and rag on the iPhone. However, I think Samsung has 1 of the best rear designs on phones. This is coming from someone that isn't a fan of Samsung...my last phone is the S3.

Never understood wanting a big phone like the not or the Plus. I guess I don't do enough with my phone.

I will upgrade to the S10 next Spring.
Because a big phone can pretty much replace a laptop or tablet these days.

I installed a Whitestone Dome screen protector on my Samsung Galaxy S8 plus and it is incredible. The fit is perfect. Clarity and touch sensitivity are outstanding.

The Whitestone Dome screen protector actually curves around at the edges providing a precise fit.

Installation, however, can be harrowing to say the least. But if you have the temperament to do it, then in my opinion it turns these curved screened smartphones into usable devices.

As for the release date of the Note 9, Apple has basically forced Samsung's hand. The September iPhone release will dominate the press for at least September and October and then you are into the Christmas buying season for many parts of the industrialized world. Release in September or October and Samsung doesn't get any press. Release in November or December and you miss start of school and Christmas buying seasons.

By releasing in August Samsung makes it available for back-to-school purchases and also has the press. Case in point, it made the front page of MacRumors.
I read about the Whitestone, $50 bucks just for a screen protector and the installation is a pain to do. Forget that! I'm using the rubbery feeling screen protector but it's no where as nice as a glass one. I wish Samsung will stop with the curved stuff, its getting played out.

Well if you want to argue that... then Samsung phablet is a blatant copy of the Newton.

Stylus check
Large screen check
Modem check
Arm processor check

Yup must ce a copy.

But can it record in 4K for longer than 5 min??
Because the galaxy can’t.

Haha true.

Sidenote:

A 5 minute 4K clip would be somewhere between 675MB and 2GB depending on bitrate, framerate and codec.

I guess that's how Apple gets people to pay for additional iCloud storage! :p
