What should we put on the teaser banner?
A button.
Really? Not one of the new features or exiting innovations?
No no. People really want to see what the button looks like up close with a macro camera.
Maybe it's a pop-out front camera. Bezel-less/no notch screen.

Haha true.

Sidenote:

A 5 minute 4K clip would be somewhere between 675MB and 2GB depending on bitrate, framerate and codec.

I guess that's how Apple gets people to pay for additional iCloud storage! :p

Don’t really use iCloud to store my videos but it’s a great option.

Sure... I was just saying a single 5 minute 4K video could be up to 2GB depending on the video settings.

I don't think the average person realizes how quickly their phones can fill up even if they shoot HD video!

This conversation dovetails with the happiness that Apple no longer sells 16GB iPhones.

But people still generate so much content on their phones with videos and photos. And I don't think everyone knows what to do with all that material.

Been an iOS guy since day 1 but switched to the s8 last year and now the note 8 and loving it! The new Galaxy phones are beautiful compared to the iPhone 8 and X. Also love some of the Samsung features like the edge panel and of course I can customize just about anything I want. Also, I can charge my phone, icon x 2018 with my MacBook charger... Can't so that with an iphone

In hindsight, the Galaxy Note differentiation was a smart preemtive move for Apple copying the Galaxy S phablets. It'll be at least another 5 years for Apple to be able to copy the Galaxy Note.
I don't know why Samsung even bothers, they don't sell very many of their flagship phones do they?

Nope they don’t.
The s8 s8 plus accounted for about 10%-12% of Samsung phones sold last year. The s9 and s9 plus is estimated to make up about 6%-8% of total phones sold.

Why do they bother?
Beats me, they should just stick to making TV's...

According to a market research firm the s9 first month sales out sold the seventh month old iPhone X by only .2% for the month of April. It’s almost July.

Try to keep up.

With S9 sales limping, Samsung won’t hit its 2018 smartphone sales goal

And?
Wouldn't selling that many phones, even if you miss your targets, be a reason to continue manufacturing them?
If Samsung are doing poorly then everyone but Apple should just give up right?
They still sell the most phones of anyone, worldwide.
No one will touch Apple in the profits game, but for sheer numbers, Samsung still rules the roost, by a large margin.

If you can't see why they would bother to continue making flagships then I guess.. um.. stick to reading BGR maybe?

Isn't this a normal release time for Samsung?

So, business as usual makes the front page news?

It generally is, +/- 2 weeks.
Samsung has been keeping up quite well to it's release schedule in 2018. I don't understand why people interpret this like Samsung is trying to release their phones sooner than they would normally.

They probably had targets for a reason and they are not meeting them.
BlackBerry did poorly, Nokia did poorly, Motorola did poorly etc etc.

So what?
So did Nokia and where are They now?
all of the Symbian fanboys were saying the exact same thing... market share market share market share.

Aren’t you the one that claimed there was nothing wrong with the note 7 when it was exploding left right and center. Probably should have started reading BGR, I believe they the ones that broke the story. ;)

No, I claimed the Note 7 wasn't banned from airlines, you (at least I think it was you, sorry if it wasn't) said it was, the link you provided showed it was banned from being carried on your person, then the link was updated but you kept going on about it....
The thread is still there, go and have a look. Go on, I can't be bothered.

I did comment how how surprised I was at the reaction of the media compared to the Takata Airbag fiasco, how the Note was treated as quite a few people have died due to Takata airbags?
Maybe you're thinking of that? Go and have a look, I'm going from memory and aren't really interested in stuff I said years ago.

Funnily enough, The Takata saga is still ongoing, Takata are bankrupt and there's still millions of cars driving around with potentially lethal srs systems, and multi billion dollar lawsuits.
Media attention? Not that big considering.

Anyway, are you really surprised that Samsung still make flagships?

BGR is a clickbait site with rehashed articles aimed at inciting non moderated comments, you can keep it.

They should have learned from the geniuses at HTC and put the COMPETITION’S phone parts in their advertising. That’s how you get attention like that... umm. The HTC... was it the HTC Hope? I mean, it was brilliant prodigy level marketing for sure, but I just can’t remember the name of the product they were selling...

So, not so brilliant advertising after all hehehe

I use to be a big Samsung fan. But anymore I can’t stand the curved edges. Stupidest design ever. They use to offer Both a regular version and an edge. Now for some stupid reason all’s they offer is the edge. I hated my s8 because of that.

Well if you want to argue that... then Samsung phablet is a blatant copy of the Newton.

Stylus check
Large screen check
Modem check
Arm processor check

Yup must ce a copy.
Who was talking about copying? Are you so quick to run and defend your precious apple you didn't bother to read the context?

The person I replied to said Samsung should go back to their original business...refrigerators. I was just saying phones can be argued to be one of their original products. I didn't even mention Apple or compare anything between the two but you're here to defend.

If Samsung was running iOS I would have jumped ship generations ago
This! The hardware is excellent, i switched to a Android device because i didnt like the notch, and I must say the HW is excellent, but the Android OS is really fussy, i have a hard time adopting. -as the notch trend is spreading, i will head back to iPhone this september, and tbh i am looking forward to get back to iOS.

I know they want to steer clear of notches in order to avoid embarrassment (having originally patented that design and then ragging on Apple where ever they could for using it) but are pop out camera draws the answer?

I guess we will wait and see what they come up with.

The back is still ugly as hell.

I agree the iPhone backs are ugly looking, unlike others that are so sexy looking.

Apple is the phone that looks ugly on the back, even Apple avoids showing the back of the iPhone for this reason, Samsung phones look nice just like other manufacturers phones one area Apple still needs to learn.

Also Apple needs to go bezel free, when it comes to design Samsung still top Apple iPhone looks dated

Errrr, Apple didn't met targets for the iPhone X either. But don't bother presenting both sides of the argument that would be silly....

https://bgr.com/2018/03/07/iphone-x-sales-estimates-2018/

At the end of the day how many units sold is not directly related to what device is better, the S9 is a superior device to the iPhone X and thats all I care about. The Note 9 will be a great phone!

But it's been this way the last couple of years. This isn't the year that they swooped in to do this.
The note has traditionally been announced in August pretty much since its inception. It used to be unveiled at IFA towards the end of the month but for the last few years Samsung have been holding their own unpacked events before IFA.
