Ignores all?

PDMI connector, icons in a wall prior to the Samsung stand, microphone icon used before Apple used it, a standard charger, Apple didn't invent this packaging where you see the product just opening the case.

For the last freakin time. Samsung doesn't use PDMI:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_Tab
"It appears so similar to the PDMI connector that it is widely mistaken for it, but it is non-standard and all accessories, including charging cables, are incompatible with other equipment and only available from Samsung."

Standard charger? Who made a cubic charger in that style before the iPhone 3G came out? Who else other than Samsung does now?

And if you didn't notice, there are actual Apple icons on the wall. See the iTunes App Store icon and Safari?

That also shows very little. You need to understand that Samsung is BEHEMOTH of a company. What you fail to realize is the profits Samsung was making when Apple was barely making any years and years ago. Also, based on how most Asian providence work, Samsung DOES NOT need to account for their subsidiaries in their revenue/income/profit reports. So in essence, companies Samsung fully owns in one sense or another are not accounted for their balance sheets and reports.

EDIT: Heres a small piece of information:

"Veiled revenue Consolidated revenue is the sum of the revenues perceived by the company and the revenues from its subsidiaries all together. In FY 2009, Samsung Group had a revenue of 220 trillion KRW ($$172.5 billion), financial results are based on parent companies. In FY 2010, Samsung reported 280 trillion KRW($258 billion) worth of revenue, and 30 trillion KRW($27.6 billion) profit.(* Based upon a KRW=USD exchange rate of 1,084.5KRW per USD, the spot rate as of 19 August 2011) However, they also do not contain the revenues of overseas subsidiaries, and no one knows about real revenues."

Either way you look at it, Apple would be nowhere without Samsung in terms of technology due to Samsung's history of innovating key components used in everyday electronics. However, the same could be said that Samsung smartphones may also not be how they are today without seeing success from the iPhone...

I love the downvotes on this post. Reminds me of ostriches with their heads in the sand, only that they're now also going "grrrrrr....".

The market capitalization is a valuation that already takes into account the current value of all assets, as well as the NPV of future profits. Any acquisition of a publicly-traded company would start with a valuation based on the market cap.

That is correct and a tad wrong. As the market valuation that you are referring to does take into account equity and outstanding shares, etc, it is still based on a public consensus of what the company is valued at, not their true value in terms of true cost of bought assets. One reason I dislike valuation, it is not based on hardcore 100% numbers, rather it is based on estimations or public view of the company. So in essence, the market cap you are seeing takes into account only the PUBLICLY traded stocks issued by the company itself, not the private stocks or value owned by the company itself.

Not sure what you mean by "start", but market cap alone says little about cost-of-acquisition.

What does Samsung make on Apple devices that no other company in the world is capable of making ?
Right now....large capacitive displays and RAM.
What is to stop Samsung sabotaging their own components or giving Apple a known dodgy batch so that iPad's/iPhone's etc don't work properly ? I would say that could well be a serious danger now and on that basis alone let alone any others it is in Apple's interests to terminate all agreements with Samsung.
You don't know much about business, I'd say. Absolutes and ultimatums don't generally work, it's not a playground. The closest I've seen to one is Apple's comments about Flash, and that pissed off plenty of potential Apple customers.

What was Apple's share of Samsung's IC revenue last year? $7bill or something. Both companies want to keep that going, no doubt.

That is true. No Samsung products for me any more. Samsung is crooked as they come. Just look at how they packaged their tablet near identical to the iPad. No thought, no creativity just make it look like Apple's products and packaging and then they act as if they're the victim ... **** Samsung.

That's pathetic. Just as pathetic as apple trying to ban the galaxy and samsung trying to ban the iPhone.

Why is it pathetic? We consumers shouldn't care about these billion dollar companies , They are there to take money from us, why the hell would anyone get emotionally attached like you?

The Samsung 'store' was a store within a store, a stand if you will. The icons there were not put up by Samsung. The stand just so happened to be placed on front of that wall.

Forget market cap, Samsung has a like $300 billion in assets plus market and contracts. They make battleships and such; what the heck would Apple do with battleships?

Is Seattle by the sea?
Where are Google's headquarters? :D

It amazes me to this day that ppl can actually argue that 100M+ iPhones have sold since its launch because Apple just knows how to market well and no other reason. Its a great phone, get over it. People buy it because its great, and because it works better then every other phone.

To some people of course, that means Apple has somehow managed to brainwash multi-millions of smartphone users into using an outdated, crappy phone because some dude is dancing around in a white room to a catchy beat.

The foolishness of Apple haters never ceases to amaze me.

It amazes me too. Especially the number of Android and Windows fans bashing Apple users on a Mac specific forum. I would never waste my time on forums for products I do not own.

Nicely summed up!

BTW - I like your blog too. Right on the money.

They may not have been put there by Samsung (Any links to support?), but the Samsung "store within a store" didn't "just so happen to be placed on front of that wall." It is obviously part of the Samsung display!

it's a mobile store in Italy that sells iPhones as well (which is actually next to the Samsung one), the wall is simply there to show all the apps available on mobile platforms

what the heck would Apple do with battleships?

Before he stepped down, I could EASILY see Steve Jobs holding a furry white cat, planning dominion and using battleships to enforce his will upon the world.
Until he's stopped by a British secret agent, and a foxy Russian spy with a dirty name..

Oh wait, getting confused again.

Hey Apple started this petty crap, good for Samsung.

Petty Crap? Really? So if you had spent billions of dollars and years of development on something revolutionary, and then another company literally copied EVERY detail of it right down to the number and layout of icons on the screen you'd be completely fine with that?

Every company takes inspiration from others, but the idea is that you see what sells, improve it and release your own version... not rip off every detail of one of the largest and most popular companies around. The first time I saw samsung's fist smartphone iphone clone I was thinking how the hell can they get away with it.

They obviously figured as they were so huge they could get away with whatever they wanted. ***** serves them right! The only petty thing is them trying to get back at apple for their blatant theft by trying what they are now.

Apple could literally bail out the US and pay off their entire debt... I bet they could use some battleships then ;) USA could take on a whole new meaning... United States of Apple!

Apple doesn't have trillions of dollars

Theres actually a thread on appleinsider that discussess that picture. Basically that samsung "store" operates like how a franchise would. Samsung provides the look and branding and thats it. The Samsung display is owned and operated by the store and they pretty much do whatever they want over there.

WCDMA infringements my ass. If samsung block the iphone into europe for even 1 day, I for one, will never buy anything samsung again. I hope others will follow

Oh really - please name the Samsung products you've bought in the last 2 years.

Agreed, I can't belive I see so many posters being ad at Apple for protecting their IP. When looking at up/down-votes too, one could be led to believe that Samsung is working harder at portraying their view on the issue on Macrumors than on innovating. :D

Anyway, enforcing IP is all right. It's good. This isn't about competition, this is about having some legal protection that makes it justifiable to invest in innovation. Samsung has tried to mimic some of Apples products - how people can deny that is beyond me. Apple may now use technology that is patented by Samsung. If they use it unjustly, the courts will punish them. We'll have to wait and see.

Anyway, people calling Apple "petty" for not tolerating copies being sold on world markets (they can't control the streets in China) are beyond my comprehension.

But you'll gladly buy Apple stuff after they've blocked Samsung's Tab 10.1 in Germany right ?

Because we need to be partisans in all of this, I wouldn't want any neutrality here.

Sorry, but that homescreen looks nothing like Apple's grid layout. You'd have to be blind to mistake the physical design for an iPhone 3G too. Tell me, how does that look anything like:

?

My post from several pages back was directly aimed at people like you, failing to look at both sides of the argument. Suing for an actual patent=not okay, suing over 'black front and curved corners'=okay.

Apple could literally bail out the US and pay off their entire debt... I bet they could use some battleships then ;) USA could take on a whole new meaning... United States of Apple!

Actually, they couldn't, but that was funny :)

WCDMA infringements my ass. If samsung block the iphone into europe for even 1 day, I for one, will never buy anything samsung again. I hope others will follow

So...

Apple sues Samsung because 'their products look exactly the same' and they get the Galaxy Tab blocked from Germany: You buy iPads and iPhones.

Samsung sues Apple for an actual patent: You will never buy anything from Samsung again.

BTW- most electronics nowadays come with Samsung components. It'll be pretty hard not to buy anything Samsung.

Once again, my post from several pages back was directly squarely at people like you.
