My X-Real glasses do everything I need for $650. Basically just a display, but I have devices all around me that they connect to. They’re super light too. I’ll use those until the next real big leap.

Samsung is ridiculous. Xiaomi too. They just sit around and wait for Apple to start making something, and then they just copy it and tweak it slightly.

Where is the iPhone Fold or iPhone Flip or Ring 🤔 Samsung is 7 gens ahead in that case.

Samsung does much more than mobile devices. In fact, they built the biggest building in the world (Burj Khalifa)

You could say Apple got it's idea from Samsung actually. This is Samsung Gear VR from 2017

Meanwhile in Redmond: Microsoft is pleased to announce the Microsoft Windows Headset Edition Professional Series X for ARM

Lol better specs? The vision pro with the M5 is the most poweful VR headset the snapdragon is crap compared to the M5 lol
This samsung headset is just a rebranded and trustworthy name for the play for dream headset its the same spec lol

It'll have a higher resolution than the AVP and a bigger visual field (or whatever you call that).

I thought iGlasses which were discreet and lightweight was the way things are heading. Big iGoggles type products are just a disaster to use as they're nothing more than a gimmick. An expensive gimmick if you're an Apple customer.

Copying or not, competition is needed for meaningful advancement. The iPad, for example, would have been much further along at a much faster rate if someone else could have just done a decent job of copying it.

Google Earth, yes. I can see the case for that. Maps... not so much. I use maps when not driving to look up locations and routes but it is usually a quick thing. Now if Apple were to add photo and VR features to Maps, that would make it a priority for me.
Well, yeah, I wouldn't be as interested in a basic port of the iPad App. I want a 3D globe that I can explore.

That's like saying:
I though Apple Watches which were discreet and lightweight was the way things are heading. Big iPad type products are just a disaster to use as they're nothing more than a gimmick
They are completely different product categories.

The part that will hurt is for Apple is...

Apple - $3,499
Samsung - $1,899? And likely to have better specs.

Good old SAMEsung strike again eh.

Whereas it's bound to be cheaper than Apple's and cut a lot of corners in able to achieve that price point.... it's still going to flop for them in the same way the VP has for Apple.

Its not about the headline price its about utility and where Meta have a lot of success selling the very capable Meta Quest 3 for under £500 - I think there is a definite ceiling price for a device which is bulky, uncomfortable, and not worn for expended periods.
How many buyers of the VP now admit that it's just gathering dust and rarely used? Quite a few that I can see - is that because it's a bad device? not at all - its just not something people find themselves wanting to use once the novelty has worn off.

This device with this form factor will never had mass market appeal regardless of how much Samsung tries to grab headlines undercutting apple.

If they launch it with a lower price than the VP and make Apple cut the price of the VP, that’s a good thing.

The design aesthetic is suspiciously similar, I’m sure the sales success will also follow Apples lead.

Having YouTube is key, and Gemini is amazing. I love Vision Pro but it’s missing YouTube, Netflix and a good ai and it’s way to expensive

I suppose you’re correct did Samsung not have a headset out first or big screen phones

This is a sign that there is, in fact, a market for VR headsets. Most likely, the Vision Pro isn't dead and Apple will iterate until it is a hit... I think they're taking their time to see the use cases evolve.
We knew already there is a market for be headset, meta proved this a long time ago. What there is not a market for, is Apple overpriced monstrosity. If Apple releases something below $999 and which doesn’t underperform in any way a meta quest then it may be able to sell some of its visors. But at the moment this is not the case.

Nothing could do more to keep Apple Vision alive than recognizing it as being worth competing with.
I think it’s delisional to think that anything is competing with the Vision Pro. It’s a dead product. This Samsung product is competing with visors that actually sell, like the meta quest.

Of all the things to release it's a DOA product Apple couldn't convince people to buy. These companies need to focus on something else besides goofy ass wearables. Some slick sunglasses with tech, sure, but these are pointless.
How is it DOA when MetaFacebook has been selling boatloads of Quest 3 headsets, as much as Playstations and Xboxes, and has thousands of apps available for it ? They have a complete monopoly of the VR market now.

Apple's VP is only DOA because of the stratospheric price ( compared to the 500€ price of the Quest ), not because of the tech itself which is vastly superior to the Quest.
Bring the price down , much lower, and it will sell at least as much as Meta's one. Estimates of Quest 3 sales are at least 2 millions units. Who wouldn't want that ?

Do you genuinely think Apple released a product with a $3500 price tag, next to no exclusive content for it, and expected it to be a wild commercial success?

That hypothesis relies entirely on the premise that Apple executives are incompetent fools that know nothing about launching new products.

IMO a much more likely explanation is that Apple had been working on spatial computing for a significant time, and after a certain point, felt there was little value to be gained by continuing to keep tinkering on it in a closed environment.

The $3500 price tag indicates that this was never for regular consumers, but rather it was a way for Apple to test their spatial computing technology with real users in the wild and gather feedback for future development.

A $3500 test kit for those that want to experience spatial computing ahead of schedule in 2024.

I have no idea whether the Vision Pro ever becomes a commercial success and don't really even care, but I feel very strongly that spatial computing will eventually become a significant thing, whether it's done by Apple or someone else.
