How is it DOA when Meta has been selling boatloads of Quest 3 headsets, as much as Playstations and Xboxes ?
Apple VP is only DOA because of the stratospheric price ( compared to the 500€ price of the Quest ), not because of the tech itself.

The lack of exclusive content that makes use of the Vision Pro has been notable too, which indicates that this was always intended as a public test kit for spatial computing, not a product aimed at commercial success.

Samsung is ridiculous. Xiaomi too. They just sit around and wait for Apple to start making something, and then they just copy it and tweak it slightly.

it's like AI doesn't have taste and the human needs to bring it to create anything worthwhile - the same applies to most asian companies (it's mainly left brain engineering that requires for there to be something to benchmark, copy, and tinker with and very little original thought on how something should look and function)

Competition is the best thing for consumers

It’s what drives innovation and allows for prices to become more affordable over time - so this is definitely welcome news👌😎
then why iPhones and Samsung price are increasing?

Hopefully they don’t price it too high. To be fair to Samsung they did have the gear VR out years before the Vision Pro, albeit a rather rudimentary version.

No Samsung actually had a VR headset first. They just abandoned it and now decided to try again after seeing the Vision Pro.

Waiting to see Samsung's headset along with its price. Maybe Samsung will be pricing it much lower than Vision Pro. But still don't expect it to sell in huge numbers. Glasses are what is actually required. Samsung too will release it in the future.

Do you genuinely think Apple released a product with a $3500 price tag, next to no exclusive content for it, and expected it to be a wild commercial success?

That hypothesis relies entirely on the premise that Apple executives are incompetent fools that know nothing about launching new products.

IMO a much more likely explanation is that Apple had been working on spatial computing for a significant time, and after a certain point, felt there was little value to be gained by continuing to keep tinkering on it in a closed environment.

The $3500 price tag indicates that this was never for regular consumers, but rather it was a way for Apple to test their spatial computing technology with real users in the wild and gather feedback for future development.

A $3500 test kit for those that want to experience spatial computing ahead of schedule in 2024.

I have no idea whether the Vision Pro ever becomes a commercial success and don't really even care, but I feel very strongly that spatial computing will eventually become a significant thing, whether it's done by Apple or someone else.

And what did the test show? That even with a great piece of hardware, developers couldn’t come with anything really interesting for consumers to do in VR. Certainly not the “killer app”.

Apple needed to carry the application / content development for AVP much more than they anticipated. And when Apple didn’t do that, the AVP failed.

The crutch that Apple provided - the ability to port over flat apps - actually proved disastrous. The AVP became nothing more than an iPad you wear on your face. Something to do in the beginning led to nothing to do in the end.

There’s almost nothing on AVP that’s not easier to do on an iPad or Mac monitor.

Why on earth hasn't Apple created a Vision OS-native version of Maps? Crazy that Samsung/Google are getting there first. Such an obvious use case.
For me it's not obvious at all. Vision Pro is not useful for such a use case. It's clearly focusing on stationary use. Or did I overlook your <sarcasm> tags? ;-)

Why can’t I attach a VR headset to my Mac Studio?

That’s all I want.. occasionally wear a headset for VR X-Plane or to view media “on a huge screen” of which all content is on that Mac. Not dish out € 4000 on the AVP.

You should be able to with the new developer cable which might have power delivery and faster speeds.

Of all the things to release it's a DOA product Apple couldn't convince people to buy. These companies need to focus on something else besides goofy ass wearables. Some slick sunglasses with tech, sure, but these are pointless.
If they reduce the price I might be tempted to buy one. I have a meta quest which is mainly for my kids. The VP is too expensive for something I wouldn’t use all that often. However, if Samsung can get the price under £2,000 I’d give it a try.

biggest issue with an android headset is they struggle to support and work on current apps nevermind apps for this headset. thats the biggest concern

I'm not surprised they copy apple, they always did, why why the hell are they copying apple's failures?

Just something else they'll end up giving away with their phones to create sales, just like buds, watches and chromebooks.

How is it DOA when MetaFacebook has been selling boatloads of Quest 3 headsets, as much as Playstations and Xboxes, and has thousands of apps available for it ? They have a complete monopoly of the VR market now.

Apple's VP is only DOA because of the stratospheric price ( compared to the 500€ price of the Quest ), not because of the tech itself which is vastly superior to the Quest.
Bring the price down , much lower, and it will sell at least as much as Meta's one. Estimates of Quest 3 sales are at least 2 millions units. Who wouldn't want that ?
It’s easy to point to the price & say that’s the biggest problem for the Apple Vision Pro it’s not it’s the long term of the headset in general because time and again technology companies bring this stuff out and sales spike then it they decline because it’s to do with the human psyche of it

Yes that’s what companies do it’s called promotion phone companies do it all the time to get you to trade in your current iPhone to get the new one it’s called reeling the customer in.

At least it has a better head strap. Even if it was as heavy as the Vision Pro (which i’m certain it won’t be) it’ll sit on the head better.

I genuinely wish them luck because it will force Apple to either get competitive or give up.
