I will stick with Apple. With Android phones, you have to wait for the carriers to update the os. With the iPhone, I get frequent updates from Apple. If you choose to buy an Android, buy the unlocked versions, or better yet, get a Pixel. Carriers are notoriously bad at sending updates.

Beautiful phone! The issue with Samsung phones is that they reduplicate all of Google's efforts. Now you will have two "assistants" on the phone to go with your two email clients, your two web browsers, your two calendars, etc.

My big issue is that they don't support OS updates past a year, maybe two if you're lucky. I've had quite a few friends with Galaxy S handsets upset because the Google OS updates come late or never and for a flagship device, that's unacceptable. Oh, and the added Samsung bloatware that you can't uninstall.

Edit: My other device is a Google Nexus 6 and having base Google Android is far better than all the BS Samsung loads and wow, it's still getting regular updates!

Gotta love the "RIP Apple" BS all over YouTube and forums... Hardware wise, of course the S8 is going to have the "lead" its the newest device around.... I care more about software and still haven't found an alternative to my 7 Plus that would make me jump ship.

Not an issue. On my iPhone 7+ I'm running SIRI and Google Now without conflict.

Exactly. Once you buy their phone they really don't have any incentive to keep you up to date in a timely fashion. Add all the carriers adding their BS into the mix and you have a cluster f on your hands.

And there's also a video that is worth watching:

Wow, wish Siri could do this. They've raised the bar even higher for the iPhone 8. By this time next year Apple should definitely stop making computers, iPads, phones if they don't come up with better hard-, and software. Let them put efforts in cars

This phone looks like trash. I prefer how my G6 looks. Flat screen, no dumb curved edges that serve no purpose yet consistently receive mistake inputs from your palm. Also **** battery. How does the s7 with a 5 inch screen have a 3000mah battery and now the s8 with a 5.8 screen still have a 3000mah? This is going to eat battery. I don't want to hear about the Note 7 issues because the s7 didn't have any battery issues and had a 3000mah battery in a tiny 5 inch frame.

Didn't know that, but is it as secure as Android Pay? Think it'd be easier for all Android users and businesses to be on the one payment service. Plus Android Pay is more recognised throughout the world. I've never seen a Samsung Pay sticker in a shop yet, whereas there are Android and Apple Pay stickers.

I don't think Samsung Pay stickers are necessary as it's already compatible anywhere Android Pay / tap-to-pay NFC payments are accepted in addition to places that don't have modern terminals (thanks to MST).

I imagine it's as safe as NFC payments as you're given a virtual card number so that your real one is never revealed.

My health insurance pushes it's Telemedicine program hard, they have full access to your health records, can write scripts and since they are, you know, Doctors, they give medical advice. I'm not sure why a company like Samsung wouldn't want to get into that if they could.
ah i'm not used to such things from the UK.

You haven't used the latest Android version I guess. There isn't a big difference anymore. The only difference is that's Android is ahead these days.

I find it unreliable. I support a large group of corporate users, and those with Android devices are usually the ones with the most issues. And that's without considering that they are not allowed to connect to the VPN due to security vulnerabilities on their devices.

Bells and whistles don't make an OS better than another one.

I'll give it a try one more time one of these days.

Now that I've seen more of the S8, the fingerprint scanner's position is unfortunate for lefties like myself. Also, with the fingerprint scanner being placed next to the camera, that camera is begging to be covered in fingerprint smudges. My guess is that Samsung is betting that most people will opt to use iris scanning and/or facial scanning for authentication. It is nice that the user has those options in addition to the fingerprint scanner.

Yeah - Oddly I'm a lefty but do most things except write, pitch, bat, etc. rightie style.

It is an odd placement. With the Axon 7 the FP reader is smack in the middle below the lens. So usable for lefties and righties.

You said 256 GB.
I didn't say anything about capacity...

You have to do what you have to do and should buy what you want. But this is a discussion forum many points of view exist.
Yep, not having problems with that and that's the benefit of discussion forums. My opinions were much more positive 4 years ago, lol.

Meh. It's a big rounded-rectangular slab with a screen on one side. Not sure what's so amazing about its design. I would say the same if it was an Apple phone. Personally, I don't want a wrap-around display or edge to edge. A little bezel is not a bad thing.

True again - They wear these things called jeans & regular pants. Oh, it also fits in a normal shirt pocket. I know - amazing - Try it - you'll like it. :p

Unless you're morbidly obese and have clothing with oversized pockets, then I call BS.

I'm proud to say I don't own a single Samsung product.

No to Samsung mobile devices
No to Samsung displays
No to Samsung flash storage
No to Samsung TVs
No to Samsung washing machines
No to Samsung music systems
No to Samsung optical media players
No to Samsung cookers
No to Samsung toasters

Yes regrettably Apple probably has put Samsung components into some of my iOS devices and Macs, but whenever I have the choice I avoid Samsung like the plague.

I'm of the Jim Dalrymple school of thought on Samsung.
And this is why you are awesome my friend, someone who chose to pay more for inferior gear and is proud to do so? Not sure pride is the right emotion, but hey ho.... good for you sir..

Time will tell if the phone becomes laggy like the S7 Edge. But for overall appearance it does look great.

This is the exact reason why I did not go for the Note 8. I was sitting in a parking lot with my S7 a week before the Note 8 launch and it just became so laggy and hot. Initially I had no problems. But I'll wait and see how this new processor performs because it's suppose to hold performance without throttling so much.
