Ooohhh I see the price of the 64GB S8 in the UK is £20 LESS then the 128GB iPhone 7 haha... I do hope Apple doesn't price this iPhone 8 over £1000 because it won't get as many sales.

I think the S8 looks meh though? Think they leaked it far too much...
I also don't find Samsungs build quality matches Apples.

I'm too invested in the Apple ecosystem to ever leave but that's a nice looking phone. It will be kind of embarrassing if Apple goes with the rumored 3 phone line up this fall.
If they do, people will only by the 8. My guess there will only be 2 models. The smaller iPhone 7S and then the larger iPhone 8. No need for a 7 Plus.

Honestly, the S8 hardware with Pixel software, no bloat, lag, etc., would make a decent phone. Samsung would rather follow the Apple route and create their own software. Dunno if it's still flawed.

Even more of a reason to stick with iOS. Android is too fragmented, inconsistent, and the majority are stuck with the software that was shipped with the box unable to upgrade to the latest OS. It seems like Android OEMs drop support after a year in my personal experience.

You also have to compare apples to apples. Samsung vs Apple in phone sales. Not all of Android vs Apple. Apples has over 13% of the market. How much does Samsung have?

I don't know about that. They make decent 4K TV's and I have a microwave that has been trouble free for over a year now. And I just got a open box Samsung dryer this Sunday from Best Buy for a crazy low price.
I've seen Samsung release some pretty crappy products in the past but it's the one company I could see making a major mistake (Note 7, exploding washers) and coming back better than ever. Not many companies I know can do that.

The person I replied to stated paying more for inferior products, which isn't true. I could buy an LG 4K OLED TV and it's not inferior to Samsung's.

The things is, even software is becoming stagnant on phones. Is the Android fragmentation of OS' that big of a deal anymore?

on the contrary. The Samsung OLED was the best consumer TV to date :). The yields were just terrible so they got out of the OLED game.

If Apple doesn't redesign the iPhone it's going to be a bloodbath. I'm sick of the home button and the huge bezels. I am thinking about pre-odering this beauty, but it seems like they've added a lot more software junk...

Bloatware can be removed. Very seriously considering a jump to Android this year myself, I'm personally waiting for the Note 8. Strip the bloatware and install Nova launcher, and the downsides to Samsung software go away.

With those rounded corners on the LCD, maybe we'll see the return of video safe zones from the good old days of CRT TVs!

So you can't buy it.....

I can't believe how arrogant some Apple defenders are here. You can't just dismiss your competitors forever. Keep pretending you'll have the edge over them you have right now forever, and the next thing you know they're outranking you left and right. This happened to companies like BlackBerry and Nokia back when the first iPhone debuted.

You might not like it, or the Samsung corporate culture (which by itself is a huge turnoff for me), but what does it take to be a little humble?

Even at their peak, BB and Nokia phones were still crappy. I bought Windows Mobile instead and I hated it. Smartphones were crap before Android/iPhone.

Exactly, I don't see the logic in comparing thousands of variations that use Android to something so exclusive like Apple. It's like when someone nitpicks one OEM out of thousands and claims "Android already had that" while comparing it to Apple.

The S8 is a beautiful phone no doubt. What I know from experience is that a beautiful phone can only get you so far. The reason why I continue to buy iPhones is because it's very fast and stays fast for the life of the phone.

Android Authority did an article on how iOS can heavily compress background apps and instantly re-spring them when they're in use again.

http://www.androidauthority.com/android-ios-ram-memory-usage-744848/

In the article he shows that iOS is able to compress 300MB down to 10MB! This is why a 2GB iPhone can outperform a 3, 4, 6GB Android phone. Android needs crazy amounts of ram to avoid killing apps.
Thank you for giving me the link. I know iOS handles apps differently than android. What I meant was not the memory usage when running but the app space it uses itself (like disk space when installed). That space is growing over time. Let's say you've installed solitaire and the app uses 37,7 mb when installed at first. Over time it uses 200 mb and there is no way to get it back to its original size other then to delete and reinstall it. Not very user friendly imo.

I disagree with the OLED tv part. I have a 2017 LG E7 OLED. I doubt the Samsung could match that from 4 years ago. 1000 nits vs 350. Not even close. Of course, this has nothing to do with phones.

Sadly it will though.

the OLED iphone sales will be record breaking price aside which apple knows.
