Hardware-wise: This is stunning. I doubt Apple will be able to match it.
Software-wise: Samsung clearly declared war on Google.

Yes that's why I haven't pre-ordered yet. I still have time to think about it. Probably will but I'm not rushing into anything yet. I can think about it for a while and still get it on launch day if I want. And even if it gets sold out and I had to wait I wouldnt be that bothered.Good point.
I know if I don't get the S8 now then I won't when the iphone 8 is out. I have been tempted past two days to get the S8 but realise I'm to into my apple products to switch. The OS works too well in my daily life.
7 plus
apple watch
macbook pro
ipad pro
apple pencil
air pods
just hard to switch when you use all these apple devices on a daily basics.
Yeah if this was the iphone 8 I would have been up at a certain time just to pre order. The OLED iphone will be 5.8 inches but 5.1 usable but we need to wait to see what that means and if we can still do certain tasks on that 5.8 inch screen otherwise they wouldn’t market it as 5.8 surely.Yes that's why I haven't pre-ordered yet. We all know if this was a new iPhone I wouldn't be waiting around. I'd have been camped out with my devices waiting for pre-orders to open and buying it without even thinking lol
I just wish Apple would make the iPhone 8 with a big enough screen.
And you can delete the ones you don't want. Brilliant!
I feel like if I'm going to get the phone then I should give it a real chance. Last year I got the S7 edge at the end of July which was too close to the new iPhone launch and didn't really give it a chance as I was anticipating the iPhone too much and just got rid of it in the end without really giving it a chance. However last year I believed the rumours that the iPhone 7 was going to be a boring update which was part of the reason why I got the S7 edge. However in the last few weeks before the 7 launched new features leaked which made it a good upgrade and then I was sold by the time I'd finished watching the keynote. I kind of feel as though the same thing might happen this year.Yeah if this was the iphone 8 I would have been up at a certain time just to pre order. Will see in September I suppose. I may still pick up a S8 plus but months down the line if the price drops. I love what Samsung have done with it and I really am impressed by android but IOS is just better for me.
You're right, no one knows for sure. Anything's possible. I'm just using history as a guide to assess the present.Great but what’s to say Samsung haven't got all that already as prototypes in house, and have had for years?
Yeah no matter what when you sell yourself it’s not worth it and you will give android a try as soon as the keynote finishes you are convinced it’s the right thing to do. I like the newest and greatest and wish I could be happy with 1 year off tech but I can’t lol. Least this year with OLED/wireless charging coming to the iphone I think it’s really worth upgrading. Maybe 6s plus to 7 plus I shouldn’t of upgraded as it wasn’t a massive upgrade. I only did it for the duel camera.I feel like if I'm going to get the phone then I should give it a real chance. I stand corrected. Thank you, sir.Yes they do:
~ Have Android activation lock bypassed (did this myself - bought a Moto G3 as "found"/"locked" and bypassed the "lock" and set it up as a new one)
~ Extra waiting time before things happen (good old Dalvik.)
~ Inconsistent and confusing hardware support from OEMs.
~ An extra 20mS of lag for audio.
I can find more.

Sounds like online dating.
Yep accidents do happen, it's just something you have to account for really.Of course, the previous 2 times I've broken phones were by accident. Otherwise, I've had a good 6 year run thus far.
Still, accidents happen. Having a more expensive phone doesn't magically make it safer. I take care of my stuff no matter what. Akin to driving... I drive safely whether if I'm in a Toyota, or if I got a chance to drive a luxury car.
That said, I would want to wait a few more years before letting my 10 and 5yo niece and nephew borrow my phone, and even then, I'd have to think about it.
More good feelings to you then!It is indeed personal preferences. I'd feel like a bloody idiot if I paid $650 to $100 for a phone when a $220 phone looks slightly less good, but still does everything I'd need to out of it.
This is the award winner for desperation post of the day. 20 bucks buys you a sd card that will up storage from a Base of 64 to 164gig.. and you are bitching about a mail app using a few Meg!!! Brilliantly lame!!!No you can't. You might be able to disable one, but it will still at there taking up storage.
I'm hoping that is sarcasm because otherwise I'm betting you are the type that held onto a flip phone for as long as possible.
Nice looking phone, mostly all aesthetics, dont functionally improve experience. These are the downsides for me.
- Fingerprint sensor in the back, horrible ergonomics, iris scanner security questionable
- Why doesn't Samsung phone use a Samsung processor - Exynos - this is not confidence inspiring
- No 3D touch like functionality - I love that feature on my iPhone
- No dual cameras - Samsung was not able to develop software (software not Samsung's forte) for DOF processing
- Paltry 4GB RAM
- What happened to the 'Edge' screen hype
- Samsung software comes with redundant functions that compete with native Android
- Non standard aspect ratio of the display - developers nightmare
This is a form factor change, not an internals change. People are eating up the form factor. This is looks, not substance. But it is some great looks and it took a ton of engineering to get rid of the home button on Android. (Though I might point out that BBRY had no home button necessary on BB10 OS due to its swipe based operating system.)
And no, of course the CPU will not top the iPhone 7. But CPU speed is fast enough in all these phones.
No you can't. You might be able to disable one, but it will still at there taking up storage.
Note user are die hard fans of Note series, may be few people shifted to iPhone. Didn't help much with iPhone sales.Apple got lucky with the exploding S7, I don't think Apple will be as lucky this time.
Just ignore the material for a moment and compare the picture will all your iPhones and iPads. See the difference? You mean the same glass back that the new iphone will have?
Plus, reviewers are already laughing and grousing about the Galaxy's fingerprint sensor placement.
so you only bring up testing in what apple does good in?
I thought you wanted the most powerful and highest performing chip? you do know the gs8 will have the most powerful GPU in any phone until the next gen iPhone comes out right.
Didn't mean to shatter your "Android as the corporate OS of choice" fantasy, but frankly- it was absurd.
Samsung notes that it has worked closely with Citrix, VMware and Amazon for its virtual desktop environment, in order to supporting log-ins to Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). The idea is that business users will be able to simply plug their phone into a DeX Station at any office, log into their VDI and access all of their work applications and documents just by carrying their smartphone around.
Hold on, S8 has split screen multitasking like S7, file system access?, back b
Feels like Apple got beaten to the punch for the first time in the mobile space.
Perhaps my view's a bit twisted, but it feels like they were always the first with major features, at least in terms of a polished implementation.
I don't want to switch to Samsung and I'm hoping that Apple blow it out of the water, but I wasn't expecting the S8 to be so slick. It's a good thing Samsung muddy up the OS to hold my temptation at bay.
The note 7 was backordered.I still don't think there is a big demand for the S8. 24 hours after in went up for pre order on Verizon, there is no backorder. Still delivering on the 21st. Not saying it's a bad phone, but one can probably walk into any store on the 21st, check it over, and choose to buy if they want.
No need to switch. Apple is typically late to the party when it comes to features, but their implementation is always better. The same will happen this year. Samsung typically takes rumored (or first hand knowledge since they are a major supplier) features and rushes to release first. This is why many features are half baked or considered gimmicky. Unfortunately for Samsung, it never helps, as Apple continues to sell more iPhones than the Galaxy line each year.
Right, but the 8 is not.The note 7 was backordered.
