Because those situations don't exist. If you want to argue against something, argue against it. If your only argument is based around a hypothetical situation that doesn't exist, your argument isn't valid.

"The notch is bad because if I put a notch in your monitor or TV it would be bad" isn't an argument.

"The notch is bad because it prevents people from doing XXX" is an argument.

I'm waiting to hear what XXX is.

Exactly, the way I see it the notch adds screen space where other phone don’t have it

It's not really an evolution more likely a convenience. I broke a lot of wired headphones because over time the wire at the base of the jack bent and at some point stopped working. Having no wires means there is one thing less that can fall apart.
I have seen some crazy mental gymnastics and excuse making for various things but this takes the cake

Why? There are many who prefer the headphone jack. I prefer wired keyboards and mice. Am I living in the past?

No, you're clearly someone that prefers to be practical. Apparently that has no place in 2018.

To be serious though...... the existence of anything being wired doesn't take away from the option of going wireless. I wish people that like wireless would stop complaining about this. It's such bad logic.

Face ID vs to Touch ID is night and day for me, Face ID by a long shot. As someone who works in custruction and lives in a cold climate being able to unlock my phone without taking gloves off or with my hands covered in dust is probably the best feature for me
And what do you do with your unlocked phone with your construction friendly gloves on?

You’re really not understanding my point are you...so close minded
And the way it see it the notch adds more screen space where other phones would not have any, therefore I prefer it
Apparently I'm not so feel free to explain it. As for preferring the notch, yeah...sure you do. I can believe you if you say you don't mind it. But to say you prefer it? I'm not buying that.

I was using BT headphones before Apple removed the jack. I really wish people with get over it already, the jack isn't coming back...

Wait, are you telling me I can use wireless earbuds even though the phone has a headphone jack. I want to make sure I got this right, the phone has a headphone jack, yet I am still able to use wireless earbuds if I choose. So the jack itself takes nothing away from the phone and I still get ip68 rating. That's awesome, why would anyone take the jack away. I honestly don't get it.

VHS and 1.44 floppy both had viable successors. What's suppose to replace 3.5mm? Don't tell me wireless either, cuz we know it's garbage and yet another device to keep charged.

Justify the removal of the headphone jack. I dare you.
You can still plug headphones into the iPhone last I checked, they merely made you use their own headphones or the adapter. All this crying over something that is still there...

Headphone jack=outdated. Sorry about it but it's true

The substitute for the 3.5mm headphone jack is this:
  • You need to charge yet another device
  • battery life is crap
  • battery is NOT removable, rendering headphones useless once the charge doesn't hold
  • sound quality is garbage
  • wireless range isn't great
  • EXPENSIVE
This is supposed to be the successor to headphone jack? What problem did you ever have with wired headphones other than the presence of a wire?

Also, you do know that the existence of the headphone jack DOES NOT mean you can't also have bluetooth as an option, RIGHT??

Yet with all those beefed up specs and CPU, it still doesn't deliver the same experience as an iPhone.

Experience is subjective. I love the iPhone and think it’s become pretty awesome and smooth. My brother says the same about Samsung. We’re both right.

I don’t see many(any) areas either really shiny or lack against the other at this point.

Shout out to @raqball who insisted the S9 would be more in line with iPhone X pricing.

Nope.

I was very close @blairh...

AT&T is $790 for the S9 and $915 for the S9 Plus

(link:https://www.theverge.com/2018/2/25/...ice-availability-att-verizon-tmobile-best-buy)

Here is what I said:

iPhone 8 = $700 ($300 difference)
iPhone 8 Plus = $800 ($200 difference)
Galaxy S9 = $800-$850 (rumored) ($150-$200 difference)
Galaxy S9+ = $900-$950 (rumored) ($100-$50 difference)
Galaxy Note 8 = $950 ($50 difference)
iPhone X = $999

I don't see the X as being that far from the new normal as far as major brand flagships and pricing goes. I do think the X is $100 overpriced though. I think $899 is about right for it and if it were priced there maybe there would be less hate.

Nice try though... Next..... LOL

I have a $20 pair of Bluetooth headphones that get the job done, and last a whole day on a charge

I'm sure people said that DVD was ridiculous and useless when it replaced VHS.

I can go take walks in the park with my iPhone playing music and not have to worry about snagging the cord and dropping my phone (which has happened)

I'm not using a dongle since I need to charge at the same time and I'm NOT going to use Apple's crappy and brutally overpriced tampon strings hanging out of my ears.... and I am NOT going to be bothered with having to remember to charge yet another device.

This is NOT a solution to the 3.5mm jack. Just bring back the port and we can finally have the bluetooth crowd quit complaining about the inability to admit bluetooth being inferior.

It’s a fine piece of hardware. There’s no reason to bash it just because you love your X. While the S9 may not suit many of us it’s till a very nice phone. The new camera hardware is innovative, it’s hardware based rather than software. That’s the direction Apple should go in.

The port is gone, and if you switch to Samsung I guarantee you that the Note 9 and S10 will remove the port.

Do I prefer the notch to an actually edge to edge screen, no, do I perfer it to a forehead and chin, yes. With Touch ID my phone wouldn’t unlock due to cold or dust or what not (I’m not going through the whole thing again), with Face ID I can unlock and use my phone because it will unlock no matter what’s wrong with or on my hands, the use of the touch screen and the fingerprint sensor are two completely different technologies. It makes my phone easier and simpler to use in my life, maybe not yours, but in myn yes

I don’t understand why the arguing is horribly redundant with frivolous things about which device is better versus the iPhone or Galaxy. Every user has different appreciations for both platforms. Not sure why it’s so difficult for others to respectful of each other’s decisions on what hardware they choose To use. There is no right or wrong answer, buy what works for the you.

This is macrumors... of course they will bash it to justify their purchase of the X.
