Personally, I would never go back to a phone that has touchID in it after using faceID.

I was using BT headphones before Apple removed the jack. I really wish people with get over it already, the jack isn't coming back...
You personal preferences have very little influence on others. Most people (by far) still use wired headphones even though every phone out there has BT.

It's not really an evolution more likely a convenience. I broke a lot of wired headphones because over time the wire at the base of the jack bent and at some point stopped working. Having no wires means there is one thing less that can fall apart.

So instead of rough use eventually breaking the connector on relatively inexpensive headphones (which is also an easy repair), you want to switch to much more expensive headphones that have non-replaceable batteries that guarantee they need replacement after 3 years.

My Bose QC25s have a $30 replacement cable available if it breaks. The $450 wireless Bose QC35s are a total loss when the battery reaches EOL. Beats is no different, Airpods are no different.

That's some courage all right.

This is macrumors... of course they will bash it to justify their purchase of the X.

Galaxy phones are nice and all, but this phone will never get Android P or whatever it's called, and it'll be loaded with carrier bloat and a bunch of features nobody will use. I've owned their flagship phones, and it's always the same thing. Meanwhile the iPhone X will get iOS 12 on launch day.

So you prefer headphones with poorer sound quality for a given price plus the latency issues. Your choice.

I don’t understand why the arguing is horribly redundant with frivolous things about which device is better versus the iPhone or Galaxy. Every user has different appreciations for both platforms. Not sure why it’s so difficult for others to respectful of each other’s decisions on what hardware they choose To use. There is no right or wrong answer, buy what works for the you.

Because this is MacRumors, and the Hatfield and McCoy feud. This happens with every article or release between the two.
Lots of young kids and younger adults here who believe that bragging rights are meaningful in a subjective purchase.

LOL, if that's a fail, then an obtrusive notch will get you kicked out of school all together. Gotta love the blind loyalty.
Did I compare it to the iPhone? Did I say I like the notch (which I hate)? Or you just assumed it because you like attacking people on the internet? Grow up, please.

I have a $20 pair of Bluetooth headphones that get the job done, and last a whole day on a charge

I'm sure people said that DVD was ridiculous and useless when it replaced VHS.

I can go take walks in the park with my iPhone playing music and not have to worry about snagging the cord and dropping my phone (which has happened)

Interesting... were you forced to use the 3.5mm jack before it was removed?

Um... just remove or disable them... Kinda like Apple's built in apps that you could never get rid off until recently. Meanwhile iphone X will get IOS12 and will be throttled to pave way for iphone XI. See, it can go both ways. :)

Advanced OiS technology... even that got “copied”. It just puzzles me that a company that has indeed competences to build a good product spends more time doing a mirror mirror on the wall than actually thinking about having a personality...

DVDs had much higher picture and audio quality than VHS. BT, on the other hand, had (and for the most part still has) lower sound quality than wired phones (in addition to adding other inconveniences). Ridiculous comparisons from fans are just that - ridiculous comparisons.

So the same thing as the S8 with some old camera tricks. Probably a fine phone, but I’m surprised how little Samsung is criticized when they make little to no changes to phones and software for years.

They could get rid of the headphone jack and user-upgradable memory to be more like Apple. I'm pretty sure they'd be in for some serious criticism then!

I mean I know that on my smartphone, I'm not looking for an audiophile experience when I just throw my headphones on to go for a walk or something....

For what people are calling an incremental upgrade to the S8, it's one helluva increment with that Camera. Keeping the beautiful design of the S8 with even slightly less bezel on top and bottom was a wise decision. Not having a hideous and intrusive afterthought notch, keeps the phone looking sleek and very modern. You want animated emojis? Samsung does it better with AR Emojis. I don't know anyone that uses Apple animojis. But already, hands on users are saying they would most definitely use AR Emojis. Why wouldn't they? We use emojis all the time, and Samsug just took it to a new level with the way they implemented AR emojis to use across all social media. There's not a doubt in my mind that more than a few people here, and few of the Apple butt kissing tech reviewers, secretly wished Apple did the same thing. Instead, Apple gave you a poop faces and unicorns. smh.

I'm not bashing Sam-sumg, I think their products are very competitive. But what the h*ck is that? It looks like a video-game. Very weird. You know the thing about animojies is that it doesn't try to be realistic, it's fantasy to express emotions. Why would anyone try to express their emotions that way when you can just take a video of yourself?

I'm not using a dongle since I need to charge at the same time and I'm NOT going to use Apple's crappy and brutally overpriced tampon strings hanging out of my ears.... and I am NOT going to be bothered with having to remember to charge yet another device.

This is NOT a solution to the 3.5mm jack. Just bring back the port and we can finally have the bluetooth crowd quit complaining about the inability to admit bluetooth being inferior.
Looks like it's a you, and the select few who feel encumbered by this, problem. The truth of the matter is that is indeed the solution to the 3.5 jack whether we like it or not, they've improved the battery life on the phones without the port. Stop putting out the false information of no headphone port, accept the design change, or move on to another company. Apple will not miss you.

I'm 31 years old, I've used smartphones and iPods since I was in college (when you use your headphones a lot), and I never once under any circumstances charged my phone and listened to my headphones at the same time.

I used to have a dock radio thing for it that played and charged when I slept, but I never once had the desire to huddle around the wall outlet with my headphones.

I can do the same on my GS7 and I can also use wired headphones. The best of both worlds. So what does the lack of headphone jack buy me?

I can't think of a single person who was crying out for a "better" way to unlock their smartphone. Let me ask you this: How has FaceID made your smartphone usage more productive? Please, no marketing speak. I want tangible things which demonstrate how you've been more productive with FaceID than with alternatives.

FaceID is as much about making the phone smaller as it does anything else, and for that it was perfectly successful for me.

It just means one more thing to charge, or get lost. I'm typing this on a wired keyboard with a wired mouse. Why? Because I see no benefit to constantly feeding batteries to a keyboard and mouse when wired works perfectly well. Just because you prefer something different doesn't mean the "old" is bad.
I never lost my mouse but I would love to know how you can achieve this feat. I use good durable batteries. It lasts for about 2 years. So yeah, I don't need wired devices.

Had a Samsung phone once. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!

Its funny they mock Apple, then reveal all the features they stole. Kind of hilarious.
