Of course I'd never hand any money to Samsung (nothing against Android but been stung by their crap phones and TV's before) and the device in phone mode looks absolute gash, but you have to say the iPhone X series looks proper lame-ass in comparison to Samsung's 10th Anniversary Edition device.

What is Apple doing with Micro LED for example; it's what, about three or four years that they've been sitting on that tech and not knowing what to do with it? Don't answer, they can't even ship their new Mac Pro or AirPower devices.

Don’t forget about Liquid Metal. Look what Apple has done with that.

Pretty cool, but that huge notch in tablet view and the price need to go. I can absolutely see this becoming the future of smart phones once it thins down a bit and the price drops. This is the kind of wow-factor innovation Apple has been lacking.

You’re flattered that we will make fun of you in 3 years?? Not sure you know what “flattered” means. ;)

All kidding aside, all Apple phones will have folding screens within 3 years except their “budget” device. It’s the future of mobile devices. And you can save THIS post if you like. :D

I'm not sure I've ever cared about anyone's opinion enough to save it for three hours. I'm touched mine means that much to you.

To me the most thoughtful responses in here are the ones that recognize that this is a first attempt at this technology… They are pushing the bleeding edge here and this is just the beginning not the end.
Thank you for being rational. Everyone should be excited about this rather than hate on it. This tech will be in a lot of things we use and better to get it out fast even if it is expensive, not perfect, or not visually appealing to some. I can only think of the possibility folding screens could do with full size tablets. Imagine a tablet that is normal size for carrying around but then unfold it to be a large desktop display when docked.

Quit thinking about which company is doing this, apple vs Samsung and just think about the tech it self.

I don't understand people comparing this phone to Apple's xs Max. They're in different categories!
Also, lets think for a minute Apple xs Max = incremental update, while Galaxy Fold = Innovation (aka 'think different')

Samsung deserves kudos here for doing something new.

Reminds of the Kyocera Echo, but cleaner. That's a compliment, sort of.

Reminds ME of my old Donkey Kong game :)

I wonder when people will understand that „innovation“ is not releasing the first, extremely half-baked model in a new class of devices, but releasing the first model in a new class of devices that is good enough to be more than a curiosity. My guess is never.

It is quite obvious that everyone in the mobile space is working on foldable devices, because a) new, flexible OLED displays make it possible and b) it is an interesting concept. You can bet your bottom dollar that somewhere in the Apple headquarters there are working prototypes of foldable iPhones being used right now. The difference is that Apple, unlike the Android phone manufacturers that are absolutely desperate to find something, anything to stand out from one another, won‘t release these prototypes as shipping products. The first foldable iPhone will be a) extremely slick and b) ready to be produced in mass quantity. And yeah, c) quite expensive indeed. 2020 may be the year.

A 7” tablet that I can fold and stash in my pocket? Yes please. Doubles as a phone? Great!

If I knew my wife wouldn’t pitch a fit over the price, I’d buy one. I could travel for work and not need anything else at all. My bare minimum now is my iPhone X and my LTE iPad mini.

The only thing that looks iffy to me is typing when it’s open in tablet mode. Might be hard if it doesn’t somehow lock open.

And if there’s truly optimized Microsoft Office apps like Samsung says, then I’m really envious.

lol at that anti edge to edge display when closed. So ridiculous. Just because you can do something, doesn’t mean you should do it. Who in the right mind pays $2000 for such a useless gimmick.

It’s not a fantastic phone because it’s trying to be a tablet, not a fantastic tablet because it’s also trying to be a phone. Yes it’s inovative and credit where it’s due, but I really hope apple don’t copy this. In no way shape or form.

You mean you wonder when people will understand that unless Apple does it, it’s not innovation?

I’d love to hear your hands on opinion. Didn’t it function as you expected?
