I'm not sure if I would consider a race to the exact same conclusion good competition. It seems that Samsung mostly "pushes" others by simply racing to rumors first, whether they turn out true or not. Does this help anyone but Samsung and their share price? Are Samsung users benefiting from S-Pay, S-voice, non removable batteries/storage, waterproofing, glass screens, etc.?I personally think the S8 is shaping up to be a nice phone with some big changes. Curious to see what how this plays out. Competition is needed and Samsung seems to be pushing.
"But almost nobody mentions that or cares about that because Samsung phones are about specs and not how they look like, while iPhones are defined to a significant degree by how they look like." - @manu chaoWe have double CPU speeds now, in the iPhone. Why doesn't that count as innovation?
Borrowed and re-purposed a snip of your post. No sense re-inventing the wheel.Because things were always better in the past.
Beat me by a minute!Hopefully this won't blow up in Samsung's face.
Hopefully this won't blow up in Samsung's face.
Hopefully this decision doesn't blow up in their face.
Wouldn't want them to rush. People don't want their bezel-less screens catching fire or anything.
This should be an explosive launch for Samsung and their precarious deadlines.
All within 5 minutes of each other. Original and funny orand
? Gonna have to go with the emojis.

No, I think it says something about low hanging fruit. "Note catches fire" is the Pokemon Go of comments. Hot one minute, yawn the next.I don't pay attention to what other people post.

Must say something about Samsung if people are all saying the same thing.![]()
They did it once before when the rumours for iPhone 6 with a curved glass display surfaced, but they misinterpreted the rumour, overcooked it and and put a gimmicky display in the curve of the glass too.
Unless these things can run silky smooth and don't affect battery life - I really don't want unnecessary resolution bumps the eye cannot see. For a start off everything will look worse until developers re-release all their apps yet again with even higher resolution graphics, making the apps an even bigger download, all for a resolution we can't even see the difference in.
They literally just released new MacBooks last month and have had countless articles about them. How about you rename this site iPhonerumors' and have a little subsection called 'Macrumors' shunted away on a back page somewhere which can be updated, say, once every couple of months or so... (Apple's fault, not yours)
Utter nonsense. And shame on those who upvoted it.
First off, the iPhone 6 curved glass rumor started in April 2014.
That rumor came over a year AFTER Samsung showed off this curved display prototype at the January 2013 Consumer Electronics Show:

The display curve excited CES visitors so much, that Samsung later released it as the Edge model. It had nothing to do with any iPhone rumors.
Not to mention that the original Apple rumor was reported like this:
--------------------------
Rumor: Apple's 'iPhone 6' may sport curved edges, display glass
Citing a "trusted source," Japanese blog Mac Otakara reports the so-called "iPhone 6" will sport "rounded" edges and a curved display glass much like the design seen on Samsung's Galaxy S III.![]()

Yes, that's right. It was originally a rumor that in 2014 Apple would copy Samsung's 2012 design which had curved front glass two years prior.
I don't know why but this post made me burst out laughing. Goodness knows I've seen some iPhone cases with polka dots and glitter on Amazon. My daughter thought they were the greatest things when she was 8.If they don't already, Apple should start making up rumours. Like a new colour wth polka dots or glitter, just to see what Samsung do.
While I love my iPhones, I too feel that Apple is moving about with the needle too close to redline as well. I strongly think that Apple should announce their new models early, and test them in the wild for a long period of time, like they did with the original iPhone. It sure as hell got people interested in the phone, and likely helped avoid some problems. Likely would have resolved some of the problems they had with other products as well.
For a period of time (short) Apple thrived off of such feedback, and tweaked models faster to help both he company, and give the user base a feeling of being important. One thing in support of your idea, is that secrecy (to help with marketing) no longer seems to be a valid reason to withhold preview information... because nowadays we always seem to know everything ahead of time!
Heck, if anything, the early feedback from users could be used to tweak the presentation![]()

What Apple were really working on was this:

And Samsung had produced a phone which looked like it had had a stroke.
