Well, when they *do* do wrong, I'm sure we'll hear of it.

Apple's more or less been doing everything right for a few years now. I'm not sure why you find that so objectionable.

Really? iPhone 4 signal and proximity sensor issues were a major Apple fail.

The buttons are hardly chrome paint on plastic.

Do you even have a 3GS ? They are plastic. I'm looking at them now, touching them, and there's no way those are metal.

iFixit link and dukebound has now corrected you twice. So much for Plastic being a low-end material. It's a fine material for gadgets and electronics.

... I assume the people Apple invited to the 2007 iPhone keynote had to be more than just the press, but maybe other folks involved in the technology field in some way that weren't completely ignorant to the world outside of Apple.

The iPhone was introduced at MacWorld. It was guaranteed to wow that audience, which of course was the whole point.

On a side topic, it's fun to remember that almost everyone expected some kind of an Apple iPod-phone to be shown then or soon.

There were tons of (incorrect) fan mockups floating around for months beforehand, and the predicted device was widely called the iPhone in the press. Heck, reporters had even written about Foxconn getting orders for millions of them, a couple of months previously.

You shouldn't flame other users. It's alright to have an opinion different from somebody else, but there is no need to sling insults here.

hang around here long enough and you will understand what I said about LTD is very true and was not a flame. It gets old after a while. LTD is borderline if not what many of us call an Apple Troll.
I swear with LTD if Apple said 2+2=7 he would argue tooth and nail that it is correct. I have never once seen him be criticle of Apple.

Point out the notifications system being crap he has and will defend it.

Inspired by the iPhone is your subjective opinion. For all we know they were inspired by the LG KE850 or the Sony Ericsson P900s.

What about all other Android phones with slide out keyboards ? The Xperia Play with a gamepad ? Those inspired by the iPhone too or simply by other phones with slide-out keyboards ?

Trying to discuss phones with the Apple community is like trying to discuss religion, I swear.

My point is Android is an OS. It's software, it's device agnostic. Google does not design hardware.

From the starting:

My opinion was subjective. Agreed. Still insist on using 'we' when throwing your subjective opinion?

If there's anything I missed out was: software. I never meant that android phones looked liked iPhones; I said that 'Android' looks like iOS.

The prototypes looked like Blackberries; but just when the iPhone came out; Android @ Google redesigned Android for bigger screens -> proper touch based input.

Android's UI has been more or less, totally inspired by iOS. Whether it's their grid of icons OR dashboard widgets working in developer mode on iOS [which is OK and I don't have a problem] OR whether its their table views or tab views or be their webviews. Android overall redesigned looking at the iPhone. The way they worked exactly mimics the iPhone.

That's what I meant with the android phones looking like the iPhone.

I still don't use an iPhone [had a 3G sometime back]. All I have is a different/innovative operating system to use from a company that I never liked personally.

HTC Mozart running Windows Phone 7 OS is an amazing innovative experience. The only guys in the industry which didn't copy the iPhone. Took their time and managed to get a wonderful, usable OS for the needs of the common man.

But I do agree with you. Android is a platform. That's what I was referring to.

And Google does not design hardware? Yes they do. They have had a collaboration with a number of android phone manufacturers - be it HTC/Motorola or Samsung to make good android phones.

Do you get my argument?

I agree with you 100%. LTD can be annoying, and in his mind, if its not Apple, its gotta be a half assed copy of Apple's work. He even posts links to articles that bash Apple's competitors, and defends Apple like its his younger brother.

It makes me think that he forgot what reality is like... Apple is JUST a company. Not a person.

I think the greater appeal of Apple devices is that they evolve at a semi slower pace than that of Android devices. Everyone always wants the "latest and greatest", but no one wants their phone to feel outdated 3 months later because the next phone is being announced. At least with the iPhone it stands valid for a year, where as Android devices seem to get updated every week.

Except my iPhone feels outdated because of those Android devices. Seriously, after playing with the OLED screen on the original Galaxy S, I'm kinda down on Apple's reliance on LCDs... That thing was sharp and had very nice contrasts and colors. My 3GS really looked washed out next to it.

In the end, iPhone, Android, it's tasks we want to get accomplished. Both accomplish all tasks people need out of modern smartphone. However, Android is really moving forward and sometimes it seems iOS is staying in place.

Look at the Maps app on the iPhone, it hasn't changed at all since introduction. It's very basic. Look at the notifications, the lack of widgets (why oh why do I have to navigate to an app and open it, wait for it to load, navigate inside it to get to things like weather or quick switches for Wifi/Bluetooth/Hot Spot) and you can see that iOS is getting long in the tooth.

Battery life isn't that great either, at least on my 3GS, I need to charge it every night if I use it on the bus each way on my commute for more than a MP3 player. Android phones don't have any worse battery life even though they have tons more features.

Apple can really do better and I hope iOS 5 really brings iOS back to the forefront of innovation, but it seems Google is passing by Apple in many fields right now (NFC payments, streaming music from the cloud, OS UI features).

I said that 'Android' looks like iOS.

The prototypes looked like Blackberries; but just when the iPhone came out; Android @ Google redesigned Android for bigger screens -> proper touch based input.

Hum, Android on those prototypes and Android that shipped basically had the same UI, just on a bigger screen... Again, you're simply stating your subjective opinion. Android has always been Android. You do understand there's a lot of UI work that goes on outside of Apple right ?

Anyway, what's so "innovative" about the iPhone UI ? It's a grid of icons for god's sake. I had that on my 2002 Sony Ericsson T610. I had that in Windows 3.1 back in 1992. Heck, the original Xerox concept had the same "grid of icons". Apple didn't invent anything there...

It's also very telling that Android's UI lacks the grid of icons on the homescreen, relegating it to an App Drawer. Kinda like OS X does it with the desktop being mostly clean and all apps being in the Applications folder.

I get that your argument is very subjective and quite "Apple-centric". It does not look at the bigger picture and just repeats myths made by the Apple community that "Apple invented all".

Google just gave away 5000 of their new Galaxy Tab 10.1 machines.

Does anyone here really believe Apple do not already have one that's been stripped down on their bench?

Or course Apple would of sent one of more of it's own people to the event to get one or more of the devices to bring back and take a look at.

Wouldn't you if you were Apple?

Where are all the returned iPhone 4's then? Where is the ocean of disgruntled consumers? Why did this substantially defective product go on to sell in record numbers with no end in sight? Why were people reporting *fewer* dropped calls experienced with the iPhone 4 than the 3G and 3GS?

This just shows the desperation of Samsung... They know they can't compete with Apple so they need to steal iPhone 5 design. Yeah like that has a chance of happening. Try innovating instead of stealing designs next time.

How are they desperate? I'm confused

Not only did they have a single biggest successful brand launch out of all android devices in 2010, their newest one is being labeled as the best of the bunch with 3million preorders and ranking #1 in many sales charts.

I know several people who have returned iphones due to the microphones on them breaking. Some returned it before the proxy thing was fixed because apparently it was unusable.

So what.

And I know several people who did abc and xyz. Personal anecdotal experience doesn't mean much when the overall numbers show otherwise.

I know several people who think the earth is 6000 years old and that Adam and Eve rode dinosaurs to church. It's meaningless.

The overall numbers mean nothing when my personal experience say otherwise. In my experiences people I know who buy Apple products have always had to return them to be fixed or replaced. Shame the Apple quality has gone downhill massively since the good old grey boxes.

The good news is Windows Phone 7 "metro UI" is so innovative and DIFFERENT nobody can accuse them of copying any tech company. Sure they're ripping off the Seattle Metro signage, but???

You know, its really hard for any sensible person to get on a discussion with you.
I have seen a number of your posts. You have a basic argument and then you add fillers calling people fanboys and neglecting the outside-apple world. You arguments are just based on your subjective opinion looking at just one tiny bit of others quote and then you end up adding your silly rude words.

Look at every single comment of yours and then realise that you could be much better without being rude and rough.
Maybe you know more than people or have a good argument, but seriously, your attitude towards the fellow forum posters is just plain ridiculous.

With every post of yours, I see why this person needs to abuse in some way or the other and god bless his over confidence and level of understanding to have a rude argument to everyone, he doesn't agree with.

Good luck with your forum posting. It's really better to have you in the ignore list.

Really?

Then you can't be helped. Your understanding of situations will be based on personal distortion as opposed to reality, especially market realities.

Maybe if Apple's competitors stepped up their game and weren't so flat-footed there wouldn't be so many negative articles about them. I just reproduce the news that's out there. If you don't like its tone then go tell RIM or whoever to get their ish together and stop releasing crap that makes them look like idiots.

Really?

I wouldn't call my experiences personal distortions. If all your friends buy a certain product and experience problems with it would you still recommend it to other friends? Even if your friends experiences go against the so call market research?

This happens to be the case for me with Apple products. They break and have to be returned. Ive had HTC phones for years and never had any problems. So naturally I recommend HTC phones to my friends, because from my experiences Apple products break a lot. Quite awesome everyone at my work and all my friends now have HTC phones where as a year ago they had iphones. Just shows the crushing power of Android.

I wouldn't call my experiences personal distortions.

Nothing wrong with your personal experiences and opinion. But it's either an informed opinion or it isn't. It either reflects reality or it doesn't. It's how you use them that matters. The fact that it reflects your own reality makes it not very useful on the whole, such as in the kind of discussion taking place here. Albeit it might still be interesting.

It isn't a good idea to assume your own anecdotal experiences represent market realities.

Getting an early copy of the next ipad is Samsung's only chance of a minor hit with their next tablet. The galaxy tablet went no where.

I read the other day that there are only two android apps that are making any money. Android users want the free stuff only. The developers will become fewer and the malware will increase and android will fade. There will likely be another mobile OS that fills its place in the next few years to compete with apple. Maybe Samsung will have better luck then.

When you don't have counter arguments, just shoot the messenger uh ? I guess you make a good point here though, best ignore any "Apple blinded" folk instead of replying to them and hearing for the hundredth time again how Apple invented everything.

I'll give you the same courtesy.
