Why? The wireless charging stand or puck could be right next to you.
The difference is that with the cord, you can reach your phone and have at least 1.5 meters of tolerance while being able to use the phone...

Maybe I’m missing the point, but with ear pods and the phone on a charging stand...It should work well.
Let's say I have a power outlet near my sofa. I can plug my phone there, still use my phone with my hands, and listen with wired earbuds.

Let's say I have a power outlet near my sofa. I can plug my wireless charging stand there, put it on the floor, place my phone on the wireless charging pad which is on the floor, and do aerobics to be able to use my wired earbuds connected to the lightning adapter while it's charging...

If only there was a way to keep that old legacy technology alive in 2019 for those of you that really need it

Oh wait

Talk about beating a dead horse

People don't expect a fly by night photographer to know audio.

From a more established and reliable source.

Conclusion
With the savings of the jack, Apple deteriorates the output quality of the music on the iPhone.

Conclusion
Apple's Lightning audio adapter amplifies signals that are quieter than about -86 dBFS after our listening tests. This may result in a somewhat higher level of noise in some recordings, such as when using analog tape, or when dithering a 16-bit music file, as is common in mastering.

Fly by night photographer? Do you think throwing an ad hominem attack at the source diminishes what they say?

Apple has never claimed their Lightning to 3.5mm dongle was an audiophile grade component. For what they charge (esp the $9.99 intro price) it’s a good deal. It’s better than the majority of headphones people would likely use, and for the audio purists who demand higher quality sound they’d be using a powered external DAC anyway.

Edited: I just checked on the Apple Store and the adapter is still $10 here in Canada, so it’s probably $7.99 US.

Still didn't answer my question on how you charge your phone while using that adapter.

Maybe you’re not getting an answer because most people never have your imaginary problem? I can’t even remember if I’ve ever had to charge my phone and use headphones at the same time. I’ve never received any complaints from my wife or kids either.

For the several people that really need to charge there iPhones when listening to wired headphones here is the solution. I’ve had every iPhone since iPhone 4 and never ever felt compelled to charge my phone while listening to music plugged into a 3 foot cable to the wall outlet

In 2019 if you still need to do that your the exception rather than the rule

The Samsung does look nice, kudos for that.

However I have to say even using my iPhone 8 with its A11 I have never found myself waiting or said oh gee I wish my phone opened that app a split second faster. Most newish phones are fast these days imo.

I don’t, because I have never had to.

It’s like asking how I read floppy disks on my laptop. It’s a nonissue for me.
You didn't but I did, and having an headphone jack saved me an headache.

He explained you in a very detailed manner on how the lightning connector isn't a pro audio solution and in fact you're losing sound quality while introducing more noise to your source... I'm not sure what's hard to understand.

There are adaptors that let you charge your phone while plugging in your headphones if you are that desperate.

For me, my phones typically last through the day, and I use Airpods, so I have never had an issue where either or both were out of juice at an inopportune moment.

Better deal to have the headphone jack built in, so I don't have to go through the hassle of carrying a dongle.

Or you could get a phone which does have a headphone jack.

Apple’s made their move. Ball’s in your court now. At some point, you are going to have to draw your line in the sand, because Apple is unlikely to reverse their decision on this.

Or as I like to tell my students - you can’t choose your consequences, but you can choose your actions.

How could anyone argue about being given the option of a headphone jack? It's thrown in, and the price of the 10e is still on par with the XR. How embarrassing for anyone to knock the option when it's a bonus. Sour grapes? It's not like Bluetooth becomes unavailable. Your option to use Bluetooth earbuds is still there. Seriously, am I missing something?

I’m confused did the headphones in the new iPhone Xr box come with a headphone jack and you couldn’t plug it into the phone ?

No lightening headphones. It’s really a non issue

Fine, I’ll say it. The problem is the green bubbles. You text me with green bubbles and you’re probably not getting a response. Go back to your 2008 Nissan Altima and fuzzy steering wheel cover.
I don’t care what other options a phone has, if it has green text bubbles...it’s a hard no.

Wireless charging of course.
They have those at the airport?

Ok. For me having a charging stand works and having the max means I don't have to charge frequently, so I don't run into this issue. On the other hand, I have airpods and qcIIs' that work very well when I'm in the house. Having said that, I can see why people miss the headphone jack.

However, Apple has sold a few hundred million iphones since the iphone 7. And how do the masses view this issue and deal with this? Obviously a rhetorical question as it's impossible to gauge how tens of millions of people view this issue. One way to deal with this is this, it's not expensive and if you are in a crunch it's solves the issue.

What people are missing, is that specs are merely the means. User experience is the end. Stop focusing on comparing one spec against another spec in a vacuum and start focusing on the bigger picture.

This whole discussion reminds me of a previous comment thread in Cnet back in 2012, when Apple announced the iPad mini. The vitriol aimed at it was staggering. People were bashing it left and right and claiming that the product was a failure compared to the google nexus 7, a similar tablet released by google, due to the latter having better paper specs and a cheaper price tag.

As it turned out, the nexus 7 wasn’t very successful, not least because it suffered from a crappy OS completely unoptimised for a tablet form factor, plus a notable dearth of quality tablet apps. To add injury to insult (nope, I didn’t get that phrase mixed up), it would also suffer from a freezing issue caused by the use of faulty flash storage. So a multitude of factors came together to make it not a very fantastic product to use, and you wouldn’t know it if you just looked at its specs sheet.

So when people crow about how the S10 (whichever variant) comes packed with hardware features and freebies, they also conveniently fail to acknowledge that the Apple experience comes from Apple products working in tandem with its software and services to make the sum worth more than the individual parts added together.

The Xr is going to get 5 years of software updates. It’s going to get the best apps for iOS, many of which aren’t available on android. Support is an Apple store away. The S10 is not going to get airdrop or iMessage or continuity. Will it slow down after six months of use?

The sad reality is the Samsung can only rely more and more on their hardware chops in order to get around what is pretty much a nonexistent software and services portfolio, especially if Samsung hopes to be able to compete with the likes of Apple, for the simple reason that they still lack their own platform, and thus are unable to offer the same cohesive experience that Apple does.

At Apple product events, the takeaways often end up being related more to how Apple is setting the stage for the future. Certain announcements and features make much more sense when thinking about what Apple will likely unveil the following year. With Samsung, it's the opposite for me. It just don’t feel to me like they have any coherent vision when it comes to the future.

But yeah, if a free fast charger is worth more than all of these perks combined, good for you then. To each their own.

The solution built into any smartphone isn’t a “pro audio solution” either. The vast majority of people and the headphones they use will NEVER notice the difference between the iPhone jack and the adapter.

Unfortunately the original poster who linked those articles apparently doesn't understand audio. If they did then they would realize that they made measurements of the differences and didn't actually conduct a blind A-B hearing test with different people using different headphones and the iPhone vs adapter. They just assumed that because there's a measured difference there must also be an audible one. They did conduct some VERY basic listening tests, but these don't pass the sniff test for any kind of audio testing.

To claim people are "losing sound quality while introducing more noise" is at the very least, highly deceitful.

No, people aren't criticizing the S10 for having a headphone jack. They're taking exception to people claiming the iPhone is vastly inferior because it lacks a headphone jack. They aren't the same thing.

Nah man, most people who use AirPods think they’re levitating above the rest of us. They are just too sophisticated to use wired headphones. Thusly they have no use for the jack therefore the rest of us plebeians should buy trash Bluetooth headphones to replace our Shure 535’s with.

The headphone jack (or lack thereof on iphones) conversation goes around and around in circles. There are people who are extremely passionate about the headphone jack, and it's great there is competition out there so that those needs can be met.

I somehow do not have the use cases that I am in dire straights to use a discharged phone with the lightning earpods on my max. If I wanted audiophile quality listening there are other solutions out there that's better than any phone. But when out and about my expectations are that what I use convenience trumps the totality of sound quality. Which is in part why I have bose 35 qcii and airpods. Both are good enough convenience wise and sound quality wise for my needs(the qcii are extremely comfortable for commuting and air travel and I don't have to have something in my ear canal for hours at a time). Out and about during a business day I have my anker 24000 mah battery in my attache if needed. I really don't need it anymore with my max, but you never know. As always YMMV with this stuff.
