this is just stupid

Comes a size where it's not a phone, it's a tablet with a voice app.

What is the point of that? At that size how much more difficult would it be to put my iPad in my pocket and just use Skype on it. Its almost as though they've never seen those spoof videos of people holding phones larger then their heads screaming into them. They might as well un-retire the old brick phones that weighed 80lbs through a screen on them and call it a laptop phone.

I hate to ask in 2012, but this does have ICS, right? Perhaps it is a tad big IMO, but overall it looks nice!

This phone is a game changer. The next iPhone better be something phenomenal. I'm done with apple and their incremental change BS. Thank god the competition finally caught up and we have some real choices now.

Just curious what makes this phone a game changer, other than people buying into the Samsung/media hype.

Yep it has ics...don't worry though Android 5.0 will be out in a few months along with the sgs3ii lol

I want something that will fit in my pocket and not make me look like I am happy to see everyone all the time. These new phones are getting crazy.

I have never understood these comments.

I have a pair of jeans on, reasonably tight... not emo skinny jeans but still. I own a lovely new iphone4s, the guy sitting behind me has a Galaxys2.

I just picked up both phones and put them in my pocket.

Same pocket.

I can feel them there, and see them, but i can still fit my hand in with both of them.

If i put them in a seperate pocket each, the samsung is *less visible* than the iphone, becuase its thinner.

Never mind the obvious question about how does a large, flat, thin, object make it look like you have an erection.

It works is not good enough for a gadget toy company. Which is what our phones essentially are. I want the latest and greatest thing out there, and iPhone 4s is 2008 tech as far as I'm concerned.

I think you severely under-estimate the number of iphone buyers who buy one because it doesn't screw them around and does what they want it to do in a secure manner.

The fact that some think of it as a fashion accessory is entirely irrelevant as far as many are concerned.

I really like the design personally I am a fan of curved designs just my take though. Why are people complaining about the size it is about the same size as the S2

Wow! The sgs3 is definitely gonna be the iPhone killer, right? Lol...

Actually that is not all that bad considering how close in performance the 4S is the SGIII. Just imagine how well the A5X CPU will perform in the next iPhone.

Yeah i was being facetious the phone seems like a great phone. However, i don't understand why people get so excited about these Android phones when they are a dime a dozen.

Finally a thread with 95% icrap, and somebody called it like it is, at least two years of incremental bs from apple while they are killing off all the mobile competition in palm, in rim, in nokia, for what? A decent phone that couldn't place calls without being held with a case, with the apple logo, but with a pretty glass design (that 95% of people had it enclosed in crapware), redesigned subsequently so it could place calls... A bs voice app that doesn't work, a buggy bloatware of desktop os that almost no work went it because everyone was focused on ios to sell more i-things. Two years of the same thing in one model, that within these two years it's costing them less, and less, and less to manufacture at the slave factories they make it at foxconn but which they keep selling at the same price nevertheless, same screens, minor cpu and memory bumps... is it any wonder that with 8% market share, they have 70% profit share, and the 92% of the rest of the manufacturers are sharing a 30% profit between them? Might this be a small indication that someone's been ripping people off and it aint samsung, nokia, blackberry or any other manufacturer to give the fanboys here a hint.

But wow they new ipad is great, it's exactly like the old ipad in every respect but they 've stuck a high res screen to it that someone else made, and the tout that their graphics are better than tegra (that's when it suits them, because when it doesn't apple is not about specks).

If it hadn't been for the dev community for bringing so many great apps to apple's devices they wouldn't have much to show for. And how did they repay the dev community, with an app store having a race to the bottom pricing, and upon their gazillionth sale of an app, a $10,000 itunes store check to a rich chinese trophy wife... A store they are supposed to curate and while their execs get millions in compensation (because of course how could one replace a genius like Phil Schiller), even the newly hired bozo from dixons gets 60 mil, yet they can't afford to spend $100,000 around on the app store to actually curate a few worthy apps that are struggling to make money.

Notifications ripped from android, imessage to emulate blackberry, and a mobile os that looks the same after 6 years even on a device like the ipad. Wow, the innovation in that, you can't even add some live updates on you lock screen and you 're stuck with a big clock there...

If one cuts through the bs, and the branding, and the reality distortion field, for the past couple of years apple has been basically making boatloads of cash for doing pretty much nothing with their devices other than incremental bs updates. And on the desktop front with lion making things worse rather than better. Oh the ipad two added a camera, oh the air is redesigned so it doesn't have a **** latch and one usb and now it's smaller, oh the imac has a mirror glass that can't be used in pretty much any conditions that involve outside light and it's the same crap in ergonomics like it always was and with the same design for 8 years, oh every new mac is getting a higher res screen but no one in the os x team can be arsed to finally write some decent code for resolution independence and the font on the 27" imac are smaller than that on the ipad, oh now we have icloud that doesn't offer online storage like everyone and their brother are offering, but hey you can match your tunes with apple (not stream them of course) for a premium.

Apple has jumped the shark, and it won't become apparent any time soon to most people, but in two years, a bit more, a bit less, and if in the process they don't manage to eat up, lawyer away, or monopolize away the competition with anticompetitive practices, they 'll get what's coming to them for having lost their spirit and become an obese, money greedy giant.
/end of rant.

if you actually look at it, it's not that much larger than the iphone. The only reason I ever left the iphone was due to the screen thats too dern small!

I'm sure this was a joke right?! I have a co-worker who bought a phone this size , it's comical to watch him talk on the phone. Good luck with that. If Apple ever makes a phone much bigger than the current one, I'll never buy it.

4.8 inches may sound like a lot on paper, but in real life it's nothing. I can fit my 7.0 inch Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus in my front pocket for crying out loud.

Well, one difference might be that I have GSM version (on AT&T). Most people in US have Verizon/LTE version. LTE is known to cause overheating. With current generation of LTE chips there is no way around it.

I have the HSPA version as well.

They've been saying this for two years. Maybe Apple will collapse this year....let's keep watching!

I think this phone may be appealing to women. It will be easy to carry in a purse and it will be easier for reading email, etc. It 's between a phone and a 7" tablet.

Looks like a mini galaxy note aka mini tablet... This is not a phone. You must be kidding!

Hate to break the news to you, but we have a fleet of 50+ iphone 4 and 4s, and you know how many complaints we've had with call drop outs or call quality in the past 2 years?

I'll give you a hint - I don't need any fingers to count them on. None of them were given to the users with a case.

"Antennagate" was overblown. Massively.

Credit where it's due

While the size isn't for everyone, or maybe even most, that Sammy phone has one damn nice feature set..

After owning the 3GS, and 4S, IOS is starting to seem slightly juvenile.. It's clean and efficient for sure, having all of your apps clearly organized how you please, but it's starting to both look, and feel too bare-bone.

I still have personal gripes over android, but from what I've seen on the nexus one, and cnet of ice cream sandwich, I'm not 100% sure I'll be jumping on the iPhone 5 unless Apple takes off the training wheels they've had on for some time now and takes some risks feature wise.

I understand that they refine, refine, refine until it's perfect, as Blizzard entertainment does with their games (D3 anyone?), but it's getting to the point where androids "toss it in the phone and see what happens" mentality it starting to get them somewhere.

I always use a case with my iPhone.

It adds bulk, but I prefer the protection.
The Samsung with a case would just take it above
the size I want for a phone.

I hope this isn't the begining of a new phase of bigger devices
or we are all going to need bigger pockets.

These gadgets are primarily phones after all.
