So with 4 cores running at 1.4 GHz, will this Samsung phone finally be able to change from Landscape to Portrait (or vice versa) at a reasonable speed - and maybe have smooth scrolling in its web browser? Or do we need an Octocore Processor for that?

I find myself often taking a shower and go for a haircut and the Orientation on my Galaxy Note still hasn't changed when i flip it over to play a video... Wy wife hates that on her GSII as well. :p

I think you should return your Note. It sounds defective. I have the Skyrocket and the orientation turn is instantaneous. The web browser also is quite fast.

You might have a defective phone.

Na, it is probably just Android taking its own sweet time. Or it could well be, that you and me have a different understanding about the definition of 'instantaneous'. True though, that the smaller GSII has a smother browser compared to the bigger Note (the only browser which has a iOS like scrolling is Opera). That might change with ICS. If it ever comes... When I bought my Note, I had some concerns about the big screen and the Graphic Acceleration (or rather the lack of) in Gingerbread. However it was announced that the upgrade to ICS would arrive "soon". "soon" became "First Quarter '12" and then "Second Quarter...". Ah well, this is Android and not iOS, where the upgrade is available on day one.

With the amount of Software Modifications and Add Ons to ICS on the GSIII, I would realistically not have high hopes on future upgrades. If of course, a large and skinny plastic phone can last that long... Talking about lasting:

My wife's GSII, however, is really defective, and is getting repaired at the moment. Motherboard shot. While she overall likes the phone, in terms of smooth- and responsiveness she prefers the iPhone.

And Samsung stores too, I wonder where they got that idea from?

Probably Microsoft. Wait what. Lol.

That is what is funny. Apple likely spent massive amounts of research on screen size when they revolutionized smartphones and created the touchscreen smartphone industry. There was no technical reason why apple could not have made the original iPhone screen 3.7", 4", 4.5", 5" or anything else. They chose 3.5" because of massive research. All the iPhone clones originally copied apple with none of their own research. As they completely failed to compete they let their marketing departments design their phones and add bigger and bigger screens with no real research or support in usability for their random size. It is all very silly.

Didnt Steve Jobs talk about how they didnt need to do market research on things because the people dont know what they want until he showed them?

Well, reviews and your experience certainly aren't fact ...

I've had some big android phones such as the galaxy nexus and most recently the HTC one x ... I have above average size hands ... and these phones are huge and they do not fit well in your pocket unless you wear potato sacks as pants.

I see this as a joke of a phone on a train wreck of an OS and it makes me even happier to be a proud owner of an iPhone ... I love love love my iPhone.

:apple::apple::apple:

Do you wear skinny jeans?

Can't speak to the note. I have both the 4 and the SII skyrocket. Instantaneous browsing on both. So I don't think we have a different understanding. I do wonder if some people (not saying you) skew their interpretations because some people want so much to know they have the fastest phone.

For me - it's a means to an end. The right tech for the right job. I'm technologically agnostic. Both my Skyrocket and iPhone have amazing qualities and some that I wish had improvements. But overall - performance wise - they have both acted and responded the same.

But again - that's my experience and everyone has their own UNIQUE use case.

That being said - the note isn't the GSIII - so any comparisons (at least for now) can't be made.

Samsung is probably the slowest of the Android oems when it comes to updates, although they've improved tremendously recently.

if you get used to the Android lag it's probably a good phone, albeit ugly

Sure the browsing is fast. Just the scrolling is not really smooth on most browsers (again: on the Note). But the lag when changing orientation is a rather known issue on Android devices.

Try typing 'orientation lag' in your Google search Window.

How do you like your One S?

People need to remember that Apple bought its way into Siri and a third of the iPhone is Samsung parts.

But yeah, the Samsung is fairly ridiculous and half the "features" are going to be a lame copy of Apple's.

FWIW I'm glad I went with the HTC One S.

I bought an unlocked One S for my second line ... like it a fair bit more than the One X I had.

Only problem is it sucks battery like crazy. I've checked what's using up the battery, 33% gmail and 33% Notes Sync. Trying to disable the notes sync option but no luck so far.... looks like I need to do some searching to get the battery usage in check, then I'll be overall pleased with it.

My other concern is the keyboard, not near as fast or accurate as I am on my iPhone, there's over 200 keyboard apps to choose from, some claim to be like the iOS keyboard but none so far have worked near as good.

It makes me appreciate my iPhone even more, I do like how it works out of the box, no tweaking, searching for battery solutions or keyboards etc. I wouldn't mind that if the custom solutions I found for Android made the experience better than the iPhone and iOS but they don't. It's why for the average consumer who's owned both phones prefers the iPhone by a long margin.

For android fans I think the One S will be a hit. It won't replace my iPhone but im glad I got it, I'm into tech and for me even though I'm not an Android fan, its been more interesting than the Lumia 900 I had. Especially glad I didn't wait for the SGIII!

Especially glad I didn't wait for the SGIII!

Galaxy S3 has 2100mAh REMOVABLE battery. Not to even mention the SD Card slot. So I'm very glad I waited. I think the sales of Sammy's Galaxy line show that majority of the people in the market have no problem with the quality plastic build. The Galaxy S3 will no doubt be the majority choice of Android users again. But enjoy your non-removable battery sucking HTC, it's still a nice phone.

I guess the whole thing will be turned upside down, as this phone won't release before summer, and iPhones are usually released shortly after the keynote.

The sales of the next iPhone, especially if it has lte, will be the stuff of legends lol. Man, i cannot wait to make some more money!

Kind of hard to beat 37 million in Q4 2011 and 35 million in Q1 2012. Those are already "stuffs of legend".

Instantaneous means as soon as I want it to..in fact my note is overly sensitive and flips too readily. I suggest you return it as faulty. Your family seems a tad unlucky with phones?

Yeap. iPhone is for women and Galaxy is for men.

I thought the iPad was for... err... never mind... could get ugly ;) :p

At least on my Galaxy SII, the orientation change is responsive too. That being said, compared to my iOS devices, there's a slight split-second delay. It's not enough of a delay to get annoyed at... but it's there.

I don't see why people are complaining about the screen size. I hate how small the iPhone's screen is, especially when viewing wide screen content.
I don't see it either. If you don't like the 4.8" screen, Samsung can offer you 4.5" or 4.3" or 4" or 3.5" or even 5.3". Samsung can meet all your needs.

On contrary Apple decides what we need: big phone and small tablet are bad for you. Apple is using one size fits all approach to reduce production costs and maximize profits milking a consumer big time.

Imagine you can buy only one car size or only one underwear size: bra or briefs - take your pick :)

yaaaa I would agree with this. I'm gonna laugh when it has a 4.8" screen though and watch everyone eat their words in here about hating big screens

SGSIII will be released shortly after announcement (in May).

if it does have a bigger screen, i can't see it being more then 4", which i wouldn't mind. But i really have a feeling that they're going to keep the same size.

I SO want one, but I have to sell my stuff, soul and backside to afford it I'm sure.

Dont buy all those crappy Apple products then.

The iPhone is starting to look old!

Every iphone has been outdated when they are released.

I think his family is just full of liars.

In any case, it would be the reverse (Note).

But in fact the Note also perfectly fits shirt pockets.

Yes. And the 4.8" GS3 is the same width as very pocketable 4.5" GS2 - it is just half inch longer.

The GS3 is actually lighter and thinner then iPhone, while delivering:
larger and superior OLED/retina/Gorilla glass screen, 50% large capacity removable battery, also packing LTE, quadcore and twice more RAM. It is a real marvel of engineering.

The deal is sweetened by 50Gb free Dropbox cloud storage.
