NO! I think samsung is the only company in any position to really compete with apple but they make cheap campy hardware that feels and looks cheap... then they ride the android band wagon.. and make boring clone phones..

yes samsung sells more phones cause they make many POS throw away phones that go to folks who cant afford good phones ore dont care about cool greta phones... 2 markets that apple does not want..

Try BIGGER font and brighter colors, I can't hear you.

Well, competition never hurts. I would like to see facial recognition on the iphone as an option to replace the passcode lock, but I feel like having the front camera sensing your eyes like on this phone would use up a lot of battery since it would have to take a picture/video at least every few seconds.

This would be pretty bad security system; it would be defeated by a simple photograph of the owner.

Marketing Hype

You do know that most people actually prefer Android phones, right? Perhaps they find those Android phones besting Apple products in terms of simplicity of design?

The Android products are driven by sales people and marketers at the cellular companies. I suspect they get a larger commission. That cut reduces the slice of pie that Samsung or any other Android manufacturer is receiving. So, Android could sell twice the number of devices and Apple would still make more profit.

As for the price, you didn't do your research. The unlocked version could be selling North of $800, making it more than the iPhone or near the same price.

I will continue to avoid all Samsung products until they stop copying Apple. I am pro-competition, just do it on your own merits. The iPhone is not just about the phone. It is about the support, infrastructure, build quality, and connectivity. Nothing else comes close.

I do not need frivolous features. I would rather have less robust features than more troublesome ones. Keep it up, Apple. :apple:

Good reading, thanks!

The guy (MG Siegler) is a known idiot. He does not even understand what he is saying. comScore reports stats for all smart phones currently in use (51% vs 31%). Siegler says that in last quarter iPhone outsold Android phones. And? Apple and oranges. One can' extrapolate that iPhone sales will continue at the same pace either because we all know that from now on people will stop buying them and wait until the release of iPhone 5.

Is that the font size optimized for reading on new Galaxy's S III HUGE screen?

Cool feature: Tracking your eyeballs to prevent dimming or screen shutoff when you are reading something. I fear this is patented and that we therefore will not see it on iPhone.

Overpriced Feature: Scan & Match for $10 per month or $12 per month -- iTunes Match is $25 per year. Nobody will really use this feature -- every iTunes alternative has failed miserably with the exception of Amazon MP3.

Stupidest Feature: Pop-up Play (picture in picture for Smartphones). PiP has to be the most ubiquitous and yet unused feature of modern televisions. Its something nobody ever cared about and yet we all have it (kinda like 3D TV). So Samsung thought that everybody was clamoring to get PiP on their 4.8-inch smartphone screen? Well, this is the same company that thought people were clamoring for a capacitive pen built into their smartphone/mini-tablet.

Anyway, I've seen two features in the last week that I want on the next iPhone:

1) This eyeball tracking feature from the Samsung GS3 to have the phone automatically stay on if you are looking at it.

2) The rewind-a-face photo feature on the new Blackberry 10 prototype that allows you to choose an image of the person's face just before you snapped the photo (RIM licensed this from a Swedish company, so lets hope Apple does the same). Its a gimmick that won't always help (especially if a flash was needed), but there are some cases when it would certainly be handy if you have kids.

Other than that, I have not seen anything all that cool in these announcements. If I bought a phone that large I would need to go buy some new pants with bigger pockets to fit it in.

Also, anybody hear Samsung make any claims about the optics on this 8MP camera? Usually, the thinner you go with the phone, the more sacrifice you have to make on the camera.

HTC and Nokia phones look nice but this design has big disadvantages: non-replaceable battery, no memory card, no possibility for bigger battery.

HTC consulted their focus groups. They say people prefer thinness over replaceable batteries.

This will play out fine.

These sale numbers are just for one quarter (not to mention that they cover only three wireless providers). If people were replacing their phones one a quarter that would mean something.

Show me figures for other quarters when the iPhone was beaten on these carriers.

Oh and by the way, the iPhone is only available on those three major carriers in the US (plus regionals)--did you want me to list the carriers on which the iPhone is not available?

I see, you like Apple and want Samsung be like Apple. But did you know Samsung sells more smart phones than Apple? Maybe not everybody like glass phones? Besides Galaxy phone can't be a copy of iPhone and be ugly at the same time, right?

8.8% of the market and 73% of the profit. I promise you Samsung wants to copy Apple in a lot more ways than how their phone looks.

Competition is good. It pushes competitors to achieve their very best, each going the extra mile to pip the other to the post.

However, I don't think this is competition. It's plagiarism. Samsung aren't bringing anything new to the table, they are just copying everything that Apple does.

Add to that their constant mockery of Apple users in their advertising and the result is that rather than admiring a worthy adversary, I just hate them for being unimaginative, insulting and cheap.

This has real-Workd effects : when shopping for a new TV recently, I actively avoided any Samsung products. They might make the best TVs on the planet for all I know, but I'll still never buy one. Why should I? Apparently, Samsung think that I am an idiot.

Fair enough I say, but this idiot will never buy a Samsung product.
Plagiarism? Show us something Apple that comes even close to SIII. Oh, and you ARE supporting Samsung. The more Apple gear you buy the more money Samsung makes.

This would be pretty bad security system; it would be defeated by a simple photograph of the owner.

It's actually considered "Low level". Pattern, PIN, and Password are all higher and in that order. That being said it's still difficult to put photograph up to get through. It has to be the right angle and expression.

HEY GUYS! LETS OVER EXAGGERATE! WOOOOOO! I HAVE TO STRETCH MY FINGERS OUT, LIKE, MAYBE HALF AN INCH! WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? I HAVE SMALL HANDS, SAMSUNG! I CAN'T DO THAT!

Comeon, people. It's not that much bigger. From the looks of it, I'd say it's roughly equal in size to the old HTC Evo, which could easily fit in your pocket. To me, it's the difference between small and comfortable, and slightly larger and comfortable.

I don't have small hands (I usually wear L or XL gloves) and the iPhone 4S fits just right when I am surfing the web etc. whilst holding it in one hand, as I often need to hold on to something with the other when stuck in a bus or subway. Would be keen to try this phone and see how it fares in the single-handed usage arena.
