What exactly is express checkout and how do I activate it on my phone (Apple store app) and computer?
Do we know for a fact that AT&T is beginning online pre-orders at midnight pacific time? I have yet to see any official information.
Haha they are unreachable even today! I called a rep today and she was no help so I thought going through the chat would be available but nope, they aren't.

I am leaving for school on Saturday away from home, if I preorder from AT&T or Apple, will I be able to pick it up in store on that day at my school's citty or how does picking it up work? Will it just be shipped to my address or do I have the option to pick it up.

Just lauch the app and complete the steps. Hey the app even has "Help".
However don't expect express checkout to work for the iPhone 5 pre-orders. While it would be nice, I would not bet on it working. Make sure you know how to use the normal checkout process for the App and the Web just incase there are issues tonight. Yes I expect stuff to break under the stress loads tonight.

So there is no way to pre-order the iPhone and have it picked up in store, it's just shipped to the address on the AT&T account or if I go through the Apple store app, I have the option to input pick up information and shipping information. I'm confused as to how it gets shipped.
gets shipped to the wireless account holder address.. of want something different need change the wireless account address.. Apple will validate this address with your carrier..
So basically, change the billing address on the account to the address while I'm away at school. Pre-order to iPhone 5 either through Apple store online/app or AT&T. Then wait till it ships the next Friday, once I get it, change the billing address back so it doesn't mess with AutoPay.
Express checkout is your Apple ID passing your billing/shipping/credit card info over to the iPhone 5's checkout process. It's like Amazon's one-click.
Update to the newest version of the Apple Store iOS app.
Launch it.
Click "Account".
Follow the instructions.
Later tonight it'll save you two or three screens which makes a big difference when the servers are being pounded.

Don't just expect Express Checkout to work. Make sure that you have a web browser open and ready. Have a backup plan it may be a very long night / early morning.

Any idea how express will work when upgrading two lines on one account? Will it give me an option to upgrade both lines or will I have to start the process over after ordering one?
When the 4S was on pre-order last year, my sister asked me to pre-order hers. She couldn't do it the night of the pre-order started because of the server load. I managed to pre-order hers around 7-8 am, got through and received on launch day.
My friend also pre-ordered his but around 11 am. Order went through and he got it on launch day as well.
So really I guess it really depends on how much iphone 5 are made at the factory.

i spoke with apple support earlier about availability of an unlocked iphone 5 tonight and while he said they didnt even know he said it was worth trying and even suggested i try calling to order instead of trying online. Guess if the site goes down i'll keep apple sales # ready just in case
No one knows for sure. When the iPhone 4S came out the store did not open at exactly 12 midnight. Apple and AT&T opened at different times. You just got to start trying at midnight.
If you stay in these forums you will find out just as soon as either store opens, these people are crazy and will be here ALL NIGHT LONG!
No, AT&T is headquartered on the east coast, they said their day begins at Midnight EST. So order at midnight EST. If the rep was right, I guess I'll get my phone easy. If not no biggie, just wait a few hours but at least I'll know for sure at Midnight EST.
Me too, because that means the west coast would be able to order at 9:01pm; I always thought they went by Apple's time (PST)
I can't believe that ATT would have jump on everyone.. This wasn't how it worked last year but be great if it did.
