Agree 100%. They (Apple guys) should limit online purchases to 2 phones per customer - at least for the first couple of months. Its a policy which they implemented in walk-in purchases (in at least 1 NY apple store) so its not entirely alien to them.

Scalpers are only relevant during the launch of a device. Once the stock levels return to normal, they don't have that "desperate" market to milk.

They do have a "2 per customer" limit. The problem is... that's a "per day" quota. They can buy another 2 each day, to a maximum of 10 total per credit card.

Another problem is that most scalpers (again in Canada) make their transaction in 100% cash. Why? No paper trail, no record. They can buy as many as they want, because despite Apple knowing, they can't prove anything.

It's so bad, that it's like organized crime.

Thanks Michael, I appreciate the clarification and correction.

One thing I would like to emphasize though is that, up until today, scalping of iPhone is still relevant, especially with respect to the gold iPhones, i.e., ebay, etc. (However, their mark-up steadily decreases as the weeks pass). As of this date, however, demand is still grossly disproportionate to the supply.

I know what you mean. The gold iPhone up to today, is still considered as a "hot commodity". However in 2-4 months from now (if not sooner), Apple will get their act together. Phones will be churning out at a blistering pace, and stock will be abundant. Why buy from a scalper (who's main goal is to make money) when you can walk into any Apple store and buy at regular price?

Haha, kudos to Apple for having a good marketing strategy. Its really tempting to think that they participated in "indirect" marketing methods such as purported product leaks, advance reviews by supposed independent party experts, etc...

In the end, Apple successfully caused the pre-launch buzz and the continuing "insatiable" demand for gold iPhones.

Oh absolutely. I don't see any scenario, where people who ordered on the 20th don't get their phones (at least leaving the factory) by next week. Unless of course over this upcoming week, there is no production whatsoever out of that plant. You're in line, and they will not forget you.

One other point I just realized, when checking the serial code of my 5s. It's production week was listed as September 30th to October 6th. That means that (if accurate) there is almost a week's worth of testing involved. Contrary to popular belief, they must still test the phones... not just package them up, right after assembly.

How do I go about checking when my phone was manufactured based on the Serial Number (so I can also check mine). :D

Since I had nothing to do today, I thought I'd take a drive to my nearest Apple store and see if I could get lucky and score a Gold 32. Nothing doing. Then I started to look at the 5c. I think they're super nice and I was tempted to cancel my 5s order and get a 5c. That lasted only a minute. I saw for the first time a Gold 5s and was very impressed. What a sharp looking phone. I was willing to get any color 5s today but they had nothing in stock. I may have regretted getting anything different. I'll wait for my order.

I called up to the customer service branch and spoke with an apple employee who was very helpful and understood my problems, we spoke alot through emailing and i was even offered a case! I turned it down though as I already had a Sgp leather snap on case which was cool. Goodluck on your orders guys, this topic was able to keep me sane throughout this wait XD

Seeing it in person, definitely makes you fall in love with it all over again.:D

Good on you, don't get tempted or suckered into anything less than what you originally wanted!:)

Just curious, what other site you guys are using for IMEI checking aside from iphoneimei.info?

Can somebody please help me? I tried to check my order status on the website and it keeps telling me that the information I am typing doesn't match the records. It was working fine last night.

Also forgot to mention they cancelled the $10 charge on my credit card today for the shipping. Should I wait to see if it is just temporary or should I contact Apple?

There's never any harm in contacting Apple. That's what they're there for.

just ordered a gold 32gb iphone for verizon and the deliver date is Nov. 5th, but i'm hoping it gets delivered earlier as i leave the country the 6th. Has anyone on verizon gotten their phones sooner then what apple show's online???

I'm sure the people who ordered on the 20th have received them earlier than expected. Which who is mainly in this thread. May want to try elsewhere.

not good.. alot of people on the fence going between note 3 and iphone 5s.. is now going to the dark side since there's no stock. i know the 5s is better and i will NEVER settle for less. but i know alot of people who are switching and changing their minds cuz of stock issues. NOT GOOD.

How did you do that

Called today inquiring about delivery times and such. He said he couldn't make any promises, but he thought I would have it a few days before November 1st.

Then, they proceeded to wave the $10 I had already paid for the expedited shipping. After that, he offered me a case. I started to say yes, but since I never use one I figure I would ask if there was anything else I could get in place. He said sure, and asked what I was looking for. I said I was interested in the apple in-ear headphones, without realizing they were $79. He said it wasn't a problem and added them to my order just like that.

All together saved $89.

Apple's customer service continues to be great.

I made a call, and they just change my shipping method , not say any about free case or something same

if you bought your phone early and been waiting for a while, they should've offered u the free case.

I think it depends on the rep. The guy I spoke to was incredibly nice. The conversation wasn't like any other customer service call I've ever had. It wasn't rushed and he filled me on all of the details and possibilities of getting it early (as they are shipping estimates) but made sure to say he couldn't make any guarantees. After he went over most of the shipping info (the main reason I called) the conversation went something like this..

-'I see here also you paid for the expedited shipping, and because of the wait I can go ahead and take that off for you'
Wow really? That'd be great.
-'We can also offer you a free Apple case if you'd be interested?'
A free case? Let me just look at the colors.. Actually I don't really use a case, was there any thing else I could get in replacement of that?
-'Yeah, sure man. What were you looking for?'
I'm actually looking for some nicer headphones, I know it comes with the earpods, but I was looking for some in-ear ones. Maybe the apple ones... oh I see those are $79... (I had honestly thought they were $49)
-'Are you on the website? Do you see these ones...' (Proceeds to recommend me some sennheiser ones that are also $79, but aren't quite what I'm looking for.)
I'd actually think I prefer the apple in-ears, as I don't really care for the others because of xx and yy.
-'Well let me throw those on your order and change the price for you. You should get those this week'
Amazing. Thanks so much.

The kicker is I ordered on October 6th...

Checked my order status and saw this.
Still a little hard to believe...

on my case.. pun intended LOL, i called customer service, and expressed my frustration. I didn't budge one bit, i kept rambling how disappointed and frustrated I am, which i genuinely am. Then the guy offered me a free case and let me choose what color. i told him brown and boom free case shipped next day delivery.

i think in your case, they shoved you off.. call them back and be aggressive.
