I ordered the same phone for AT&T via Apples website at 7:50AM EST 9/20 and my order is still processing.

I really have no idea why I was fortunate enough to get mine so early. I thought everyone else would as well. Forever it said "Processing Order" or something else, with just the expected arrival date of 10/21-10/28. I was OK with that because I knew there were people ordering at 3 am on 9/20.

When I noticed the change in status early last week, I was of course happy. But again, I thought they put the later month dates to keep everyone's expectations at bay. And again, I'm not sure why my order was shipped via FedEx vs. UPS. (I DO hate UPS BTW)
 
When you order directly from AT&T, it must come directly from their own personal domestic stockpile. Was the point of origin for the shipment, already within the US?

UPS handles pretty much anything (Apple related) out of China. Apple and UPS must have a specific agreement. When you order directly through Apple (especially now, when stock is non-existent) it comes directly from China.

You're right, I didn't see a shipping from China starting point. I think the first notice I got of shipping was in Texas. Then it went to Kentucky (Lexington or Louisville), then it was on my doorstep.
 
Mine is still in Luisville. A coworker today walked up and had the gold 64gb. I freaked. He ordered it 2 weeks after me and got it 2 weeks before me. So much for being a loyal apple user and ordering on the same day from them rather then the service provider.
 
i gave up yesterday. cancelled my order eternally in processing, and was lucky enough to get a 32GB at&t gold iphone at an apple store here in NYC. wooooo! cant believe that that was the most viable option...rather than being diligent and ordering on launch date. :rolleyes:
 
And of course the UPS bureaucracy comes through once again. I could drive maybe 20 mins and pick up my phone right now... but they need to attempt to deliver it first.

Dammit UPS, dammit...

Are you serious?! That makes ZERO sense!

I'm not kidding... I called the UPS hotline, and they told me that I could only pick it up after one delivery attempt was made to my home! Of course I'll be home to welcome it with open arms, but I was trying to see if I could get it today.:(

I don't understand that at all. I was going to call tonight to see if my husband could pick it up in the morning, but I guess that is out the window. Honestly if tomorrow someone doesn't come knocking on my door to hand me or my husband my phone, and they tell me that they came and no one was there (as has happened to me before) I'm going to go over there and give them hell.

Yes but it has been a while, and I haven't used them for several years now. I always opt for USPS, Canada Post or, if I absolutely have to, Fed Ex. Usually once I see a product is being shipped by UPS I look for a place that can ship it via one of the others.

In the future I will order via my carrier instead of Apple.

Of course I know that those are standard UPS practices. I just don't feel like waiting until tomorrow, if I don't have to. It was worth a shot, and I accepted what they said.

From what other people have been saying (a week or two ago), the carrier was even worse in terms of getting their hands on this device. Some person reserved with Fido, maybe a week into orders, and the wait was until Dec-Jan. Don't know if Rogers has more clout in securing devices.

Still "Preparing To Ship", 38 hours now.
No end in sight.

Lucky yours is staying in the states... if you saw any of the last 2-3 pages, it is quite an adventure to get it up north. :D

Well it's Friday over there in China, get to shipping !! I see where your phone has taken the scenic route up north. Tomorrow is the day !

Mine did leave the factory in the early am on Friday (EDT). Usually UPS might pick it up from the factory in the afternoon.

Hopefully they don't tear out your heart a second time. I will be watching!

If it is not on the truck for delivery tomorrow morning... I will march myself over to the depot, and demand the package. I'm done, and I have had it with the UPS incompetence.

Ya ... my problem is there might be a short period of time (maybe an hour) in which no one will be home. With my luck that is when they will come. :(
