Series 3 Ceramic Edition Owners Thread

Not a bad looking watch and band combo. Doubt I could pay over a grand for notifications on my wrist though. Espeically with two models beneath that at the same price.

Yeah with the different options, they really have something for everyone. The LTE portion is what made me upgrade. I do miss my Nike+ faces though.

Does anyone think the new Hermes bands (white) would go with the white ceramic option?

Curiosity question:

Has anyone had a chance to compare LTE reception on a ceramic, versus a metallic case watch, in the same location? (Maybe a few different locations, to get a better spread of results...)

I would think ceramics would be radio-transparent, seeing as it is non-metallic (although also fairly dense, so maybe not as transparent as say, plastic would be). So there exists the potential for better reception in the ceramic watch.

Would be an interesting experiment, if anyone would be up for it...

Oh no, sorry to hear that! I've definitely heard Apple making exceptions before if they run a diagnostic to ensure the watch is ok.
You’re so awesome. Thanks for your help and kindness.

Apple care beyond the 60 days is a tough one.
You need to find a store manager that is willing to work with AC for the exception.

A good sob story, and a lot of blah blah blah, and groveling might do the trick. It's a big might though.
Maybe I should hit up a less fancy store. One where they oh and ah over the ceramic. Mine is like, eh whatever. Lol! Good ol’ California. Thanks for all the help those. You guys are great.

You'll be fine. It's statistically unlikely you'll crack your watch before it is time to upgrade it... Wear it and be happy, however long it lasts. :p

Btw, at least in my country, home insurance often covers accidental breakage of stuff, even if you're at fault. You get a larger deductible than with applecare (and they "helpfully" write down the value of your stuff over time), but still, with a ceramic watch it still means a sizeable payout should something bad happen.

Maybe something like that is available in the U.S. as well?
I think you’re right. I know my renter insurance covers my iPad. I’ll ask tomorrow about the watch. Genius my friend, simply genius.

So nice!!

I hate you!!!!!

Isn’t the antenna on embedded just under the screen?
Interesting question though

Yes, that's what they said (and I have no reason to doubt :D), but still, the case is a metal cup that essentially blocks off (at least) 180 degrees of the visibility of the antenna.

With modern signal processing (beamforming, MIMO and whatnot) this doesn't have to be an insurmountable problem, but it would be fun to see if there still might be any difference in performance... *shrug*

Welcome to the club! I have the Apple Charcoal Leather Loop and recently purchased the Black/Pure Platinum Nike Sports Loop. Both look fantastic with the grey!

I just grabbed the Black/Pure platinum and it looks and feels great. This is my first experience with the sport loop.

Picked up the Black / Pure Platinum for my white ceramic and it looks awesome. Tried the normal black before and didn't like it but this one is really great.

Wondering what the Hermès Fauve Barenia Leather Single Tour would look like on the grey ceramic with black lugs and buckle...

For anyone that thinks the Ceramic Series 3 Edition is durable, think again.
Case on my white ceramic chipped when I bump the watch on my counter.
Took it into the Apple Store and they want $800, to replace the case! Yes I know I should have bought Apple Care. I dont have an issue paying $400 to fix, but $800 is a flat rip off.

white ceramic bathroom tile $0.25
white ceramic apple watch case $800

hmmm

A bathroom tile isn't made to quite the same measurements and tolerances though, it's just a square of clay baked in an oven. Also, no electronics and other components inside... :)
True, but they both crack the same. Not counting the electronics as the guy was just quoted for a case, it's hard to justify $800. The material cost would be about $1 if that.

The material cost would be about $1 if that.
The raw materials cost is utterly insignificant, sure, but the time and effort sunk into finishing/polishing that watch case is undoubtedly going to be significant. The case is a very complex overall shape, with many nooks and crannies and various holes of different sizes and shapes and so on, and the ceramic material is quite hard (~8 mohs scale), making it difficult to process.

So apart from apple tax, there's a reason it is costly.

Totally agree!
