I don't have this on either of mine, but I am sure they'll be replaced right away.

Normally I would totally agree, but how does that work with the X? I mean, do the Apple Stores reserve a stock of these to replace defective ones, or do you have to wait 4-6 weeks for one to 'become available' like a brand new buyer would have to do?

What's that old saying? Beggars can't be choosers?

It could be Apple, it could be Samsung; heck, it's technology, there will always be a few bugs.

Just remember, this is the price of early adoption (and being a slave to the consumerist mindset). But I hope ya'll get your phones fixed. I do. :)

It's a $1,000 phone, not exactly chump change.

And $50K cars have problems sometimes to... as do $500K houses. This is why there are warranties. Apple has great service and will take care of the phones with issues, so not even sure why this is big news.

Samsung is the only one that makes these displays, presently at least.

I missed where it was determined this was a display defect? It could equally be caused by what is driving the display I would expect. It really matters not... its a few phones with defects and Apple will replace them. I don't see the reason why this is taking up so much MR home page space.

You feel bad for customers who have to deal with it? You mean, take the phone back to be exchanged, free of charge, for a working, great device? Yeah, seems terrible!
I would like to point out that it doesn't work like this all over the world. I live in Central Europe and here your only options with a defect would be to send it in to have it repaired (and be without a phone for a week or two, or maybe even longer), or in some cases they might let you return it and wait to buy a new one (which here most stores won't have them until mid December).

The amount of salt on this forum is unreal. Of course every first generation product has issues here and there. Even ironed out products have issues. No one is “beta testing” this phone. The only people that are saying that on this forum are those that got conned into buying the iPhone 8/8Plus, OR who can not afford the X.

I have the X and it is phenomenal. If you use an iPhone X, like actually USE the phone not just look at pics, the notch DOES NOT MATTER. If you USE the X, lack of Touch ID is a good thing. Face ID actually is easier.

It’s an amazing phone. Sure, some will have flaws. Any electronic device can. But there is NO NEED for the salty comments here. We all enjoy Apple products. If you missed out on the X because you didn’t have the money (or unwilling to pay $1200 for a phone) and you’re butt-hurt, just keep it to yourself.

The people who experience these issues though, they have a right to be upset after spending so much. This is a huge inconvenience.

I have not had any issues with my X thus far. Great experience overall.
I seldom read such a pile of nonsense. If someone chooses not to buy a beta product then it means he can't afford it? Many of us could well afford this product, but chose not to buy exactly because it was obvious it would have had a number of issues, and we said it before the release so this is not a surprise at all. There is a reason why it wasn't released in September, and it's that they didn't have it ready by then, so it's clear they had to rush at the end, and when you do things in a rush mistakes and error will surface over time. Next year most of these will be solved and people who chose to wait will be rewarded having a more refined product.

I am assuming it just depends on the supply on a given day. I have heard some people going in and getting replacements.

This is disappointing. It’s expected that there will be issues with something thats mass produced and especially when done for the first time, but I still feel bad for the customers who have to deal with it. Green lines, unresponsive screens, cracking speakers, scuffed bands tone issues...thankfully my unit doesn’t (knock on wood) have any of those faults.

Well you also have to keep in mind that in this day and age problems get aired fast and furiously by a vocal few. Most people probably have no problems. Like me, ahem.

What's next? Multiple Face Id failure??? This is embarrassing... Steve would be really pissed! Guys at apple! You should really do better than this. Shall I get a Honor/Huawei device instead of my iPhone? o_O
Was he pissed when he oversaw the iPhone 4 and its poor antenna design, or the wifi that got greyed out in those models due to poor internal design? I bet you're one of those people who remember everything he touched being golden.

It's not the OLED display. The display shows a green line indicates the signal it receives for that particular pixel array is probably corrupted. My guess is a RAM defect or loose contact.

With the volume Apple are shipping there will be some quality issues in a small number of Phones. Like many have pointed out Apple Customer service is excellent.

Well at least Apple is one of the best in the business for customer service
Way to put a positive spin on your defective $1200 device. Keep your chin up there little guy. I'm sure Uncle Tim will make it allll better. Oh by the way. Don't try to use if it gets too cold too. Seems to not like that either. Maybe a fur lined phone case for Christmas.........

Some perspective for those who feel like the X issues are a reason to consider Android:
A co-worker of mine, fiercely pro-Android, had a Note 5 last year. Upgraded to the infamous Note 7 on Sprint. Got a green vertical line. Had to work with Sprint to get it replaced. Then the whole recall happened. Had to work with his carrier again to get an S7. That developed microphone problems. Had to work with his carrier AGAIN to replace the S7. Twice.
Now he has a Note 8. No problems so far.

Moral of the story: the grass is always greener.

I am a huge Apple fan, love my 7 Plus, but this is just embarrassing and unexpected of Apple. I expect this many people having issues with 300 dollar smart phones. Not $1000 dollar ones. Hope Apple doesn't start going downhill.

The Genius Bar has always (IIRC) had a separate stock of replacement iPhones to replace defects with. I can't recall an iPhone launch where that wasn't the case.

The reason I'm willing to pay a little more for iPhones, despite Samsung's claims having features first, is that I get the Apple store included in that price. Walk in, walk out with a device the same day.
With the same problem LOL

Interesting. Luckily Apples customer service is excellent! I wouldn't mind having a green line on my X in about 8 months so I can get a brand new device

Usually in the first 2 weeks they give users a new one, but after that it's a refurbished.
